LittleBlocks is a mod that allows you to polish up your creativity and optimize your redstone systems. Indeed, the size of blocks placed in a little blocks is divided by eight compared to its original size, so you can place 512 blocks instead of one.
Don't be afraid to post your creations! If they look good I'll add them on the website.Original idea thread by toddtimeocom

However, there are plenty of places to post server topics:
If your server is survival, post here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forum/45-minecraft-survival-servers/
If its a creative server, post here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forum/137-minecraft-creative-servers/
Other places to advertise
-Minestatus (useful to create a banner to put in signatures)
-PlanetMinecraft
-Reddit Server Listings
-YouTube, if you have an account with subscribers who might be willing to stop by your server.
Good luck with getting started, although many people don't like to join hamachi servers because they tend to run slowly.

No one is forcing you to use mods, so for those who don't want the risk of corrupt worlds can just ignore it. From my understanding, the modding API is just to make modders lives easier.
In my experience, Minecraft will auto-remove blocks and items that no longer exist in game. For example, I was playing RedPower World, which adds these enormous rubber trees. I accidentally loaded up the world without the mod installed, and all of the RedPower stuff had been removed.
Lastly, back-ups of old .jars and saves are your best friends. Use them, and you will be safe from world corruption.

Well I'm not really a computer expert, but if you head over to the Computers and Technology Forum, they might be able to help you if you give them your specs.
