I have never seen a server charge for things that clearly give another player an edge, or basic gameplay mechanics. If they did, I'd imagine players would realize how wrong this is and leave the server pretty unpopulated anyways.
So I don't see why they felt it necessary to change the EULA regarding servers in the first place. The only reason Mojang would have would be to force players who don't personally host their servers to end up using Realms, which would be a very underhanded way of getting more money.
But I digress, here are my thoughts on these revisions.
You are allowed to charge players to access your servers
I have been on several servers and never has one charged for entry. And, to be honest, I don't see charging to enter servers ever being a thing. I'm not going to pay to play online, especially to enter a server that I haven't even gotten a chance to try. Why would I pay to enter a server that, at base level, is just like every other server?
You are allowed to accept donations
You are allowed to accept donation from your players. You can thank them publicly, or in-game, but can’t give them preferential treatment for donating. You are not allowed to restrict gameplay features in an attempt to make money.
So what exactly are "gameplay features"? Are you telling me servers aren't allowed to have donations ranks/perks? Every server I've seen that takes donations has had donation perks, so that there is an insentive to donate. And I have never seen any of these perks be something that gives another player an edge over other players.
You are allowed to provide in-game advertising or sponsorship opportunities
Running servers can be expensive, with that in mind, you are allowed to put adverts in your Minecraft worlds to help with costs. Used within reason, adverts and sponsorship can be good ways to fund a server.
Again, uwotm8? In-game advertising or sponsorships? How in the hell would that even work? Are you seriously telling me to add annoying advertisments to my server? How would I even have adverts in a server? That makes no sense at all.
You cannot charge real-world cash for in-game currency
This is about the ONLY change that makes sense in this whole mess.
