Hello everyone! I had this awesome idea!
Shading corners so that they look rounded!
Here's a screenshot. Look at the top of the grass blocks.
It needs extensive ctm to look perfect, I only did the top of the blocks and not the sides.
I think it looks really nice. You guys should try it, especially for sidegrass.
Imagine a pack with all the blocks done that way! It would look amazing!!!
Ohohohohoh that is niiiiice. It's really subtle but totally gives it that rounded look you were trying to achieve. What kind of CTM work would you need to perfect it? Or do you mean to add that to every block?
Also, I changed my avatar. Sorry everyone who remembers faces better than names.
How about this? It's one overlayed onto the other at 50% opacity.
For an idea of the contrast...
I think you found that happy medium. Personally I think your original black wool texture is the best of the three, but since it looks too similar to grey wool I think this newest version is perfect. It's easy to say that it doesn't look very black when it's just a flat texture beneath a body of text, but in game I bet that is perfect. I don't really have much else to say about this texture other than I like it, so good job!
I tried doing something a little different for the black wool, adding a bit of low saturation dark blue and purple to it, i think it makes it seem a little darker while actually being a little brighter.
Anyway, which version is better?
Actual black (well, extremely dark gray and black)
More colorful version
It could just be the contrast on my phone's screen, but I think that the pinkish purple colour behind the black markings in the "coloured" black wool feels a bit too vibrant for the rest of the colour palette. I do really like the spacewolves grey background colour though. Maybe tone down the purple behind the black?
Oh man, those are smooooth. Your palette blends together so subtly that it almost looks like a higher resolution than 16x. I freaking love that diamond.
I feel like your apple is a bit too perfectly round. Maybe remove those 4 pixels on both of it's sides? This second part is kind of selfish, and probably really difficult to pull off with your specific style, but do you think you could maybe try making the gold or diamond item sets a little bit more ornate and unique? I just really love your style and was wondering what kind of madness you could pull off for some diamond monstrosities.
So I've been kind of computer-less for a very long time. Well, good news is that I now have a wonderful new computer, which means that I can now jump back into the texturing community!
I havent really done any texture work since 1.2, and now that 1.6 is out, it looks like I have a lot of work to do.
So with the new resource packs, what kind of freedom do we have? I heard that we can do custom sounds now, is that true?! asdfg
Imagine this guy coming towards you with custom creepy-gurgling noises... MUHAHAHA!
I am so excited to get back into the texturing, I am rusty as all hell.
EDIT:
Or better yet, have have him laughing like a daemonic Hyena. Imagine a pack of them slowly lurching towards you as that creepy laugh croaks from their throats...
EDIT: Page get! You must all post crits on my 64x stone bricks.
I like how you made the cracked stone brick have a different pattern instead of actualy making it cracked to keep the clean feel. However, I'll be completely honest with you and say that the mossy stone brick doesn't fit the clean-cut theme and is a massive eye sore. The green is far too flamboyant for my tastes (and believe me, I love flamboyant things) and it really belittles the other stone bricks. Maybe try to fit smaller greenish rocks or vines into it in different patterns, or at the very least darken the green a little bit.
I would love to see some shots of it in game, as that's what truly matters. For all I know it looks amazing in-game.
Oh damn, I am digging that unique style. I've gotta say Deonyi, I have massive respect for your ability to try unique styles. Everything you do maintains a distinctive style, without failure
So after a solid half-year hiatus, I figured it's about time to re-kindle my love for texturing.
There is no doubt that I am a bit rusty, but hey, it's a learning experience ;D.
Now before I can actually do anything, I do have a few questions.
I havent textured since Minecraft 1.3, and from what I understand there is a new file system for texturepacks?
I'm used to texturing from a sheet, but apparently the new system seperates each individual block into it's own isolated texture file.
As fun as it would be for me to manually seperate each and every block texture, I have a feeling that there is an easier way. The commmunity is pretty awesome like that. Is there a program that will do it for me?
Also, I was able to load my 1.3 texturepack into the current patch, as you can see below.
If I continue to play with this version, will there be any bugs or glitches, aside from the actual missing textures?
AND FINALLY just how magical has CTM become in the past 6 months? I remember that CTM had introduced partial transparancy to blocks around the time I stopped texturing, and that was super mega awesome.
I'm sorry for ditching you guys, and I love each and everyone of you.
EDIT: Also, sorry about my shirtless avatar. I know it burns your eyes, but It's kind of an inside joke that I can't bring myself to break.
I've been working for hours on this stupid gravel, but it still doesn't look right. Something just seems off, and it's not as fabulous as I want it to be. Any thoughts for improvement?
Gah, gravel has always been the bane of my existence. I REALLY like how you were able to make the texture actually look like gravel without having any real tiling issues. Maybe add some more browns to break-up the pattern a bit? In terms of colour it feels a little bit too similar to your cobblestone, but that's pretty much where the similarities end.
In reality I think it's perfect as it is, but I've found from personal experience that textures that I thought were perfect can look even better when I add a few more colours.
And your grass... my god. And that cobblestone... and that door... and that... hnnng.
I need to visit here more often.
Also, hi, everybody. I'm fasing myself back into the froums for a bit.
Glad to see I'm not the only one. I am at work at the moment (*Shifty eyes*) so I cant post any progress on textures, but I can assure you all that I will start texturing again tonight.
I am SO happy to see that TAU is still up and running, at full strength!
Thanks! That was one of the first mobs that I had re-skinned, so I'm glad that you like it! I'm planning on re-doing him, though he's still going to be a skeletal dragon-lich, just more menacing and detailed!
Thanks a lot, it's always great to see that people do in fact like my texture-pack! With Hallowe'en just around the corner, I've re-doubled my efforts to get the next update (Mobs, Items, Gui, etc...) ready in time!
And could someone tell me how to comment with images that aren't links
-Edit-
This is the oak planks texture, and it isn't finished yet.
EDIT:
You add images to posts by taking the direct URL (right click image and select "copy containing URL," or "Open image in new tab" then copy that url. Once you have the direct link, place it in the img tags, as shown below:
In other news, this is what my zombie is shaping up to look like. It's a hell of a lot less flat then it's 3 coloured previous version, which is always a good thing. This is going to be the basis of most of my future zombies, so all Supreme Command and Conquer is not only needed, but sought after. Also, I know that it's super noisy, but I didn't use any filters. Everything pixel was hand placed.
Dat ass.
EDIT: Here's what my last version looked like. It's amazing how much of a difference a few more colours can add.
I like everything about this pack except the mobs.. but this latest zombie looks really good. More like this and the pack is absolutely golden
Thank you so much for the feedback!
I understand your dislike for the mobs, as I too felt the same way. The issue was the resolution. There are some amazing artists out there who can make great looking low-res mobs, and I have nothing but amazing respect for those people. However, I decided to take a page out of Wayuki's book and double-up the resolution on my mobs. While my mobs could probably never hold a candle to hers, I am definitely glad that I took the plunge into higher resolution work.
I'm aiming to get my first wave of zombies out by Hallowe'en. I already have 5 alternates, and havent even began texture work on their attire.
And here are some teaser progress screenshots:
Firstly, I updated the title screen to be less depressing!
Secondly; An example Zombie! It's a lot less flat then it's previous 3 colour brother. Clothes sold separately:
Anyone have any suggestions for what different zombie types Direcraft should have?
i.e. Bikini, Miner, Cowboy, Mummy, etc...
Unfortunately, it is used for the rectangular prism inside of the beacon. It also wraps incredibly badly, see my thread here: http://www.minecraft.../#entry18444727
Thank you so much for that amazing thread. I hope you don't mind, but here's an x-post from that topic, that I am sure a lot of TAU members will find handy:
I wouldn't mind making a skinned cow/pig. Great practice for hostile mob skinning!
I always find it silly when people criticize the ideas behind a Minecraft mod because it wouldn't work in real life. I get that shearing the skin off of a cow is horrifying, but for years we used to punch sheep so hard that their clothes fell off. Has the all mighty sheep deity Thomas ever smited me? Lolno.
Anyways, I'm getting off topic.
With the newest snapshot, does the blue beacon texture impact anything in the game? I know that It used to be for the Beacon Block, but has that changed in the newest update?
