    Version?

I made this for Minecraft 1.9.4, I haven't actually tested it if it plays well on 1.10, but you can always try it and let me know :)

posted a message on Axes or Swords?

Have both on your hotbar! I'd use axes on endermen because of the high damage output and because of the AI on the endermen and how they teleport away from you when you hit them (sometimes) and how it gives that time for your axe to finish the cool-down :)

posted a message on ATB (Activate The Beacons) Genre Discussion

Greetings everyone, I would like to discuss a few things about this ATB genre to see if people would actually want to see more ATB maps in the future and if other map makers would actually like to make ATB maps of their own.

I’d first like to provide an overall explanation of what this ATB genre actually is:

ATB stands for Activate The Beacons. An ATB map can consist of any number of beacons to capture, Environment Conquest had 12 in total but 3 in each area out of the 4 large open world areas. To capture the beacon, the player must be within the boundaries of the beacon and must complete an Objective to capture it, indicated with a coloured beacon to mark that the objective has been met.

Objectives can be creative, Environment Conquest had a timer objective which the player had to stand on the boundaries for at least 10 seconds. My next map, Environment Conquest II will have a kill objective which the player must kill a certain amount of mobs (kind of like a wave system) and must still be within the boundaries of the beacon.

I’ve made a poll with 3 questions that should hopefully give me some statistical insight to see if it’s worth continuing to work on my next project which will be another ATB map, so I need honest feedback from you guys to see if this gamemode is actually fun to play or not.

This does not mean my first map should be overlooked at if some of you who’ve played it failed to enjoy it. Yes, I’ll be honest that the gameplay felt a bit rushed and as a result, made the overall map experience feel kind of boring to some people which has me worried if it’s the genre or if it was just the map. Guessing if it was just the map, I just don’t want other people to think that ATB is a bad genre because they found Environment Conquest boring. From this map making experience though, I want to improve upon my next map by addressing some of this critical feedback from my last map into my next map to hopefully hear lots more praise from other people.

Thanks for reading and enjoy yourself :)

For me, I've always liked building in the plains biome because of how open the area is and how quick it is to make a village from building one house to the next

I think you should go for it. But this time you could make it a little harder than before. Give the people a challenge! Make them earn the fact that they have to reach and capture the beacons!

I couldn't agree more with what you said. This was one of my biggest design flaws with my first map because I found that a lot of people weren't really engaged with the combat, despite rewarding the player for killing mobs and trading their loot for emeralds.

Can you suggest any ideas for making it harder? Perhaps having like a wave system instead of a timer, so that players must kill the mobs in order to capture the beacon? Any of your ideas are more than welcome :)

posted a message on Plans for Environment Conquest II

Hey everyone, I am in the process of making a 2nd map for Environment Conquest. It will unsurprisingly be called Environment Conquest II. It will be another ATB map (Activate the Beacons) if people agree that this genre is fun to play? This time, it will have only one area unlike my first map having 4 areas to explore. This one will be set in a continental area that'll be huge to explore to keep the player focused.

Here's a screenshot from MCEdit of the overlay of what it'll look like:

What do you guys think? Remember this is just the layout, I haven't done any terraforming to it just yet. I just want to know what you guys think of this idea and any suggestions you want to add, feel free! :)

Hello I made a video about your map,I hope you enjoy it.

Hey, thank you so much Hughes5! I'm happy to let you know that you're the first person to make a video about my map! I watched the whole video and I just gotta say, you have such a great talent for reading descriptions (at the start of the video) ;) Jokes aside, this is one of the coolest things you've ever done and words can't describe how thankful I am! So once again, thank you! I'll always remember this video :)

    1. It is too boring for me because I just had to run around in the wild desert with too many monsters (Which weren't rly modified.) and find the beacons. I can't imagine, how it'd be if I chose the farmer kit. I wouldn't be able to farm neither fight the monsters...it had a survive aspect but I felt like I was too weak to fight against the monsters and to run around, capture the beacons so I deleted the world. There could be more mechanics/details/monsters/structures on the map, I think.

    2. What I did like about this map was the fact that it looked really wild and there were some kits. The capture point system was good but sometimes the beacon was in a really open area,so there was no challenge to capture it. There could be more...

I am a map maker by the way. ^^

Hey, thank you so much for your criticism this time, I just really didn't like how your first comment wasn't helpful at all but this time you've given me some good feedback for me to learn from. However let me explain your flaws to your comment:

I'm guessing your first choice you got was Sunfall Desert? You see, there's a random factor at the very start of the game where you randomly teleport to a different place, so the next time you play it again, it'll take you somewhere else (and hopefully not the same place) If this map is still in your recycling bin, restore it and try it again. I can assure you, there are some really unique places that you've never explored and if you've deleted the map because of that one area of the map, that's not really a fair way to review a map isn't it? You would've had to have played the whole map to actually say if the entire experience was boring or not because I can only see one part of the map been boring, not the rest. This map is typically aimed for hardcore survival players, which I'm guessing isn't your play-style?

I'll admit, I'm a little bit disappointed with the outcome of Sunfall Desert since it's the only area in the map that hasn't got many custom monsters or structures in it so I can agree why players would consider that area to be "boring", fair enough.

And another thing, look at Dark Souls. A lot of players do run around from the monsters because you're typically too weak to fight them, so why can't this map mimic this sort of mechanic? I do like games where you're constantly on your toes, so it's a matter of opinion I guess and you're opinion is totally valid and yours. So i'm sorry if I'm trying to argue about it, I'm just really curious that's all :) and also curious what kind of maps you make

This map is boring. Sry. ._. Most boring map ever played.

Can you at least justify why you found it boring? Like can you at least consider any criticism you found in this map worth sharing rather than just evaluating the entire 1.5 year map project as the "most boring map ever played"? Here are some questions to consider:

    1. What exactly didn't you like about my map? Did you find it challenging or easy?
    2. What are some of the positive aspects of this map? Do you like the capture point system (aka the ATB genre) or the landscape?

    Thanks ;)

posted a message on Map Ideas?

Ok, I like this idea, I'm just kind of wary about taking someone elses map and making one my own thats very similar. But, if you say so, I can make a *very* different kind of map with this and I think I already have an idea in my head. Thank you for you suggestion!

EDIT: And I just read about how you give your redstone for the beacon capturing away. No thanks, I haven't even seen the footage of a beacon being captured yet, but with redstone I have a tendency to NEED to create everything on my own and test my limits. Thanks, again!

Yeah no trust me I'm happy for other people to make their own ATB maps. I have not yet made a youtube video as of yet describing how the process works, it's just a way so that other people can do the redstone for their own ATB maps.

As long as you give your map a different name to mine and nothing has been directly copied from my map into yours (as in the actual areas of the map, like using MCEdit to copy a whole entire part of my map into someone else's, otherwise it's plagiarism) and if you can possibly put my name down in the credits as inspiration or as the maker of the ATB genre would be much appreciated. This is if you're actually going to make an ATB map, but this is completely up to you and I'm just pitching a suggestion for the genre of the map you could make

And if you do decide to make an ATB map, you would officially be the second person in this world (from what I know, since that i'm pretty sure no one else but me has come up with this genre for a map before) to make an ATB map which sounds exciting, not really :P

EDIT* Also if you mention in your post that the genre of the map is an ATB map, that would help prevent some confusion because it at least shows that it's a legitimate name used by the community to describe this style and genre of the map since that it's new

posted a message on Map Ideas?

I just checked it out, that's pretty cool! The only thing is, I'm looking for ideas for a map, not an actual map. XD But thanks for showing me that, it seems really cool. I'll probably play it.

I meant that as an idea for a map, that is if you are looking for ideas for a map. The genre of my map is called ATB (Activate the Beacons) and I'm confident enough to say that I'm the founder of this genre, even though nobody but me has made a map based on this genre. Also i'm really glad to hear that you checked it out, means a lot to hear those things :)

In case you want a bit more context of what ATB is...
    - You beat the map by capturing a certain number of beacons. It is up to the map maker to decide on the amount of beacons there should be
    - That is all. Think of it as like another name for CTM (Complete the Monument) but instead of being limited to 16 wool, you can create as many beacons as you want. This idea encourages players to explore the area surrounding them and to go to beacon to beacon in a vast open world environment. This idea works best as a marriage between Survival and the newly implemented ATB genre
