posted a message on StarBound Broken Again...

Ok, for one, this is Off-Topic, General gaming... so wth Spyrogirl?

Secondly, I'm not bitter. Just stating how the game is. Works a couple days ago, they hot-fix, doesn't work. They have done this before as well. I actually yanked the server and kept it offline for 6 months previously, and with the faith I have in them, I think I'll do it again. It's amazing how it WAS working fine, up until that last patch... but no, you're right, our system is just too old to run it now lols...

Thirdly, this is server software. It shouldn't require a really up-to-date version of Windows. It is not running graphical software or anything fancy. My OS is updated fully and I have zero pending updates to the system. VC++ 2010 and 2015 are BOTH installed and both installed successfully.

Whether it's an old OS or not, they need to state that it is not supported if they plan on dropping the OS. When I first started running StarBound, it interested me because they advertised it as being non-resource intensive. Basically, the game would run on a toaster. That's how they always marketed it. Minecraft runs fine on the server... Space Engineers runs fine on the server... I have many other server applications running as well, but yet, StarBound is the only one which WILL NOT RUN.... so why is that? BECAUSE NOTHING ELSE HAS AN ISSUE RUNNING!

Don't call me bitter. Their Dev's are crap and I'll call 'em out on it. Why do you think Terraria people laugh at those who play StarBound??? Hmmm... I wonder...

posted a message on Need advice from someone with a succesfull server.

It's usually just a matter of who you are targeting to play on your server. We're pretty small for a server, but we have been up and running for around five years now, and still have some people playing on our server which have been there from the start.

We have found from our years of running the server, that depending on the age of your players, is where you run into most of the problems. The younger they are, the more ADHD they have and the more they feel like they deserve to be opped, for no good reason. We aim for more of the older casual gamer, and run into hardly any of these problems.

posted a message on Plugin name

Well, I'm just saying it was one I've used in the past. http://www.curse.com/bukkit-plugins/minecraft/rewardme

Had setup the Redeem, where you can specify any line of text, and when it's typed, will give users items/currency/etc.

posted a message on Plugin name

I remember using a plugin like that long ago... I forget the exact name of it, but I remember it was a REWARD plugin, so if you search for 'reward' on the plugins page, you can probably find it. I want to say the one we ran was called RewardMe, but I do not remember... it was very long ago and I doubt the plugin we used is still maintianed. *shrugs*

posted a message on Bears and Chairs and Sharks, Oh My

So, I've been a long-time MC player, along with a bunch of people on our server. One thing I've always wondered why they haven't added, was chairs. They have beds, but chairs I think would really improve the gameplay, especially on role-playing servers.

The game also needs more mob entities. I would think Bears would be easy to do... but also, there are hardly any mobs in the ocean, except for squid. Sure, the Guardian here and there if you find a temple, but meh... I think sharks would be cool to gobble people up trying to swim across oceans without a boat. Whales would be a cool passive mob as well.

Since we're talking about water, how about some cool water stuff, like whirlpools? New type of moving water block where the current is so strong you cannot swim against it.... just SOOOOOWUMP and you're dragged under. Hmm, whirlpools.... those could work in the desert too, QUICKSAND!!!

So, my friend suggests the some Nether additions as well. The ability to use a mini-glowstone block for lighting (y'know, about the size of how it looks if you put it in an Item Frame. Also, cool Nether trees, which would be on fire, perhaps have the mini-glowstone (seeds?) and the trees would be as tough to harvest as obsidian!

Well, just some suggestions, all of which we have been waiting years for, without Mojang probably even considering any of 'em.

You'd probably need to contact them. Sounds like they may have a blacklist set up and you landed on it.

Did you enter in a value for server-ip in server.properties? If so, try leaving that blank and starting the server.

If you can connect to other servers just fine, it's probably an issue with the one you're trying to connect on.

posted a message on StarBound Broken Again...

So, we usually run a StarBound server along side with our Minecraft server... but the SB Dev's are just horrendous. Every patch they release seems to break something or another. Their last major release, worked fine!! Then a day later, they decide to hot-patch it... BROKEN!!! It's just amazing how they break something which works. Guess I'll wait another six months before attempting to run their server software again.

On the plus side of things, Space Engineer has some GREAT developers. They listen and actually fix things. I know they have had a few bad patches which have really made for some servers you cannot run, but y'know what... they at least acknowledge the problems and fix it within a day or two... unlike some Dev's... I'm looking at you, SB Dev's.

So, game developers huh.... some good, some bad. How about Mojangs? Is waiting a year for 1.9 worth it?

posted a message on How much do server owners pay for plugins?

You can get a plugin for free, if a developer has time and you ask nicely... it is also going to depend on the size of the job. A lot of new developers will take requests... or at least, there use to be a request thread on Bukkit forums. Can't help you out if you want to know about bigger plugins which are maintained to work thru every patch, I do not have details for that, but if it is a small plugin you need, you may wish to start on that route.

posted a message on Command not working properly

I didn't think you could combine types... I've read you could before, but last time I tried it /kill @e[type=Zombie,type=Skeleton,r=300] it always gave me issues and never wanted to work. ;p

posted a message on Minecraft And Special Characters!!

This will not be possible to make custom ones where people can see by default. Minecraft, like most other software, only uses the character set provided with the software/system. If you made your own, you would be the only one seeing it, unless you included it into a Resource Pack, in which case, everyone with that pack would see your included characters.

Not to sound like a smart , but this is how I genuinely feel.... they will fix fences when they fix lighting once and for all and add chairs... so you can expect, never. ;(

posted a message on Why so against automation?

On the server side of things, depending what you do, it can really bog up the machinery. I've seen a little 1 block chicken farm go out of control, and when destroying the block, out shoots 1,000 chickens. Automation I think is ok, as long as it is small and contained, however, some people do not know when to stop, and when they go out of control, can really impact everyones game.
