    Quote from Dzyu

lol, yeah right. Post something and hope people will wade through dozens of pages and reply to your post.

I never read anything but the OP in threads like that.

I hope you refrain from posting in them, then. Hearing people repeat the same rebuked or erroneous arguments eighteen billion times over because they won't read past the first page gets really tiresome.

So far, I have been forced to replace a single block from my house.

    One block.

You may all cry some more.

I saw someone run out into interstate traffic once and not be hit by a car. This clearly means doing so is fine.

posted a message on Endermen Don't Pick Up Blocks Mod
    Quote from IAreNinja

if you download this mod you shouldn't play on a difficulty above peaceful.
but really how are they ruining your plumbing they are 3 meters tall and if memory serves they are allergic to water
redstone problems - again they are 3 meters tall
and its good they pick up blocks placed by the player maybe a little bit of a an annoyance but really that is kinda pathetic you can't deal with it.
but hey make it so you can turn the ability off and on, and you have decent mod

Can you explain to us how to keep them from marring up the entire landscape? Are you proposing covering the entire world in a 2 meter high ceiling?
Also, wouldn't making it toggle-able in the mod be kind of pointless? Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but what would the point of that be? Don't you install the mod because you want to change their properties?

posted a message on Endermen: Great Idea. Worst execution ever, though
    Quote from jimmc

My main problem is the fact they can pick up any block for no reason, a creeper will ruin your stuff if it sees you but endermen tear my structures apart

Structures, forests, hills, beaches... Basically anything you can't submerge in water or illuminate and moat off. If it's not your house they're disassembling, by luck or by protective measures, it's everything else. That is my biggest complaint. I don't mind if they're unfinished and not very interesting at the moment. That may come. It's the active detriment to the game environment I mind.

Fill the wall with TNT and pressure plates on the side the endermen frequent, they'll get the point.

There are two crucial things your cunning plan overlooks. I wonder if anyone can guess what they are?

No prob, I hope I didn't sound too.... douchebagish?

And I guess asking to change it back to the original F button is still a valid argument, although I like the current implementation.

Maybe that ought to be the new poll. Back to F or not?

posted a message on Enderman Is Sabotage!
    Quote from John4555

Agree with the OP. Endermen shouldn't be able to move player made blocks. They can already teleport, I think that's destructive and powerful enough!

I actually kinda think the opposite. You can take measures to defend your own structures. The havoc they wreck on the natural landscape, however, is impossible to prevent. If they did it less often, it might be less disruptive if they ONLY targeted player-made structures. Plus, that actually serves at least kind of a point. Mangling the land itself accomplishes what, exactly?

So, I guess if I I make a game called "Scrolls" and am sued by Mojang for it, I can expect the full backing of the Minecraft community.

Rgarber: No. The key here is the context of the title. Using it as an in-game item isn't going to be any sort of an issue, because there's no risk of your product being confused for anyone else's. This isn't about USE of a term, it's about disambiguating different products in the same market niche, despite what the kneejerk herpderp brigade here seems to think. You're fine. If you were, say, producing a PC game called Worrowmind, THEN it'd be time to worry.

While I like the texture pack just fine, why all the skewing in the screenshots? It makes me feel like I'm watching Battlefield Earth.

I am honestly trying to be helpful here, not mean, when I say that if you want people to download your packs enough to make any money off of adfly, you're going to need to make them want to. The level of effort you have put into this will not, by and large, make them want to. Compare the time you're spent on this to the time spent on a successful pack like Misa's texture pack and think on it a bit.

Note to self: If I ever get famous, pick the words I apply to describe any trouble I run into VERY. CAREFULLY. Once you unleash the rabid fans (even unintentionally) on what they THINK is happening, there is no way to change their course or minds, and you can't expect to think it through themselves. That's all I have to say on this.

Don't bother, Hjaalstar. I'm pretty solidly convinced people are only here to talk, not to listen. And it's way, way more effort to read about and understand something than it is to get angry about what you think you read about it.

I wish I could tell if people were just being hyperbolic or if this many honestly don't understand how trademarks/copyrights work. Nobody is copyrighting, has copyrighted, or is claiming copyright of, the word "Scrolls".

posted a message on Bethesda, Mojang & "Scrolls"
While I'm not pleased about this (potential) suit, and I do think it's a bit silly, it seems like a lot of folks are just skimming a few key words here and moving on. A few points to recognize, on the remote chance anyone's interested in reading comments besides their own -

#1: Bethesda is not claiming to have a copyright on the word "Scrolls". Read the actual concern/complaint again. Nobody in this case is claiming a copyright over ANY individual word in and of itself. The concern is that the -title- of a -computer game- ("Scrolls") is, in their lawyer's/lawers' opinion(s) (see below), worryingly similar to the -title- of another -computer game- which they already had a copyright on the -title- of. If this were a book, no action would have been taken. If the word "Scrolls" were being used in the game, no action would have been taken. This is an issue of the title of one product being very similar to the title of another product of the exact same type, and nothing else. A bit unreasonable? Yes, perhaps.

#2: "Bethesda", in fact, isn't doing anything. Their legal department, and/or an individual or group within it, is doing this. Game companies are not single, cohesive, monolithic entities. Things happen in one part of a large company that other parts have no idea of. While there's obviously intercommunication, it is unfair to say "Bethesda does this" or "Bethesda thinks that" unless it really is something coming from the head of the company or the company as a whole. You can only say, in this case, "Bethesda has a lawyer that says this."

#3: It's a C&D letter. A lawsuit is being threatened, but these things often progress to negotiations that end in a compromise, or just settle down if the C&D is followed. Nobody is necessarily even going to be sued.

    Thank you.

It feels sort of insincere to speak of consolation when up 'til now I've only parasitized your work's fruits, but I offer it nonetheless. Regardless of whether you're the PTM guy or just another person, my condolences from one stranger to another.

I doubt this will be the last we hear of this fine mod, though. There's already been a merge of it done with Cubic Chunks. Perhaps the two could eventually be combined, like Optifog and Optimine were?
