Can't get this mod to work with either version for 1.9, with any release of forge for 1.9. The crash reports always comes out the same, something about buffers in an illegal argument exception.

do you have any other mods installed?

Now that I've had more time to examine this it does seem the mod can't or won't generate images that are about 2-3 levels zoomed out from the level that you used to visit an area. For example if I fly over an area at level 1 (the most zoomed out) then I can zoom all the way in with no issues. But if I fly over a new area at level 9 (almost zoomed in) then images of the map won't show up if I zoom back to level 6->1. I think this explains the issues I had over the past few months thinking that it wasn't saving areas I had been to - it simply wasn't generating those areas when zoomed out so I though they were still black.

hmmm that might explain alot. i will try this out if i have the same problem, and check the code that could be cousing this.

it does make sense (kind of), if i remember right then when you visit a area all the zoom levels should be updated. but there might be a bug with this. i'll look into it and see if i can find the problem.

i'm kind of at a loss here... the map should just update old files when you fly over them. there are no errors in the log or something that could explain this?

Whenever I try to run the mod, I get this when starting up the game: http://pastebin.com/PLqCAJQj

    Using Windows 10

    Java Version: jdk1.8.0_77

    Forge Version: 1.9-12.16.0.1824-1.9

    Mapwriter Version: MapWriter-1.9-2.4.15

I've tried using an older version of Forge like you said in response to someone else, but that didn't help.

my last build was against forge 12.16.0.1809-1.9, the error your getting is becous forge changed something after that. i will post a update to the latest forge somewhere this week.

I always use the "Quit Game" button. The other odd issue I am having is that if you zoom in or out on areas of the map where you have been what is displayed will sometimes show as black as you cycle through zooming in/out (for example zooming in all the way will show the visited areas but zooming all the way out will then show those areas as black).

the black map means that for some odd reason that zoom level wasnt saved properly.
also i think the games cant realy keep up with loading and handling the chucks. this sometimes happens when playing on a heavy modded game. you could try and lower the number of chunck updates in the mapwriter config.

i'm updating this mod, but moved all development to a new thread.

as for the bedrock not showing is becouse the map starts at Y=1 and needs something below it to show anything on the map. i will add it on my todo to see if i can build a workaround for it.

as for the flickering bug, i'm aware of it but as most people havent found a permanent solution for it. you can always log out and back in en the map should have fixed it self.

as for the new thread here is a link:http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/2523556-mapwriter-continued-an-open-source-mini-map

Can I modify it for my server?

It's open source, so yes you can. but if you share the idea you have maybe it can be included in this branch. (not having multiple versions of the same mod is a plus in my opinion)
    Quote from LeslieGilliams»

Unfortunately it does not. No matter what I do certain areas of maps remain black and it's extremely frustrating.

Could you tell me what blocks are black on the minimap?
also what version of forge and mapwriter are you using?

I updated the mod to Minecraft 1.9. it's still in beta so use at own risk.

if any bugs are found please let me know.

Also this happened not sure what this means

    [13:44:33] [pool-13-thread-1/ERROR] [MapWriter]: data length (4092) or version (2) invalid for chunk (30, 9)

Do you use a modpack or something, so i can test it myself?
only thing i can think of is that a mod in your modpack has a error or acces rights to the file system

Vectron, I am loving this mod! Thank you for taking the time to put it together.

If you take suggestions, it would be great to be able to scroll between elevations on the fullscreen map in underground mode without actually traveling to them. Shift+mouse wheel, maybe?

    Keep up the awesome work!

you have to see the underground mode as some kind of sonar. so it's only mapping the area around you.
in my opinion being able to scroll around underground makes it a bit to cheaty.
