posted a message on Looking for spar partner and place to spar
I keep being bested in combat, so I'm looking for someone to spar with to get a better grasp of it. Bonus points if you know somewhere this can be done. Basically I want to drop into an arena with someone, and hack at each other a whole lot. I just don't have another person or an arena.

Were you redirected here by someone? If so, who?
I was not directed here by anybody. It just happened to be pushed to the top while I was browsing clans, and it caught my eye.

Have you read the SCoM Constitution and agree to abide by it?
    Yes.

What is your political orientation?(If unsure, see http://www.politicalcompass.org)
    Economic Left/Right: -8.25
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -8.56

Explain, in short, the reason you are willing to join SCoM:
Looking for a clan and found this one. When I play on servers with my good friend, we always use the system you propose for storing resources and sharing, and I always enjoy it. Everyone having countless chests for their personal stuff is usually very inefficient. Much nicer to throw it all in shared chests and have an organized storeroom. Your system of government is also interesting, and I'd love to participate and see how it works.

Give a brief summary of yourself:
Eh. I like math, and Japanese language, food, and culture.

Name three values of the constitution that the applicant before you did not:
    - Officials can be recalled at any time with a majority vote.
    - Looks to be entirely democratic as long as there are nominees, and becoming a nominee isn't prohibitive.
    - Nice division of tasks for officials. Doesn't look like conflicts of interest could occur, such as someone in charge of resources diverting a bit more towards certain projects that fall under their other tasks.

    Quote from Dandistine

    It does not.

It allows copyright holders to ask the court of issue a court order against sites which promote or enable copyright infringing activities. In the past media companies have been anal about things such as using a song in a montage, or posting funny clips from shows. The assumption right now, which is incorrect, is that a site can be removed from the internet by media companies without any due process of law.

After they started bringing out swarms of police in riot gear and LRADs to deal with peaceful protests, I pretty much lost what faith I had left in the government to not be assholes. Frankly I don't trust them not to try to use this sort of legislation for purposes that are different than its stated purpose.

    Any source on this though?

    how it works:
young age: " my generation is better, you are old and stuck in your ways!"
old age: "your generation is going to hell! the world is doomed! my generation is better!"

who is correct? both of them, cause the best generation is relative to each person, usually the one they are born into. but there is the occasional exception, like the 70 year old building mega cities in minecraft, or listening to deadmau5.

I can't wait to be old and see which obviously immoral/wrong thing of today the kids of that day dislike me for not being alright with.

I hate the way there is other Americans on here arguing over something so crazy. I really don't care about the fact that they are stereo-typing us for being fat because they cant really prove were all fat. What they can prove is we are ignorant because we are in a fight over the internet -.- just saying.....

We can be angry about and talk about anything we want. Especially public schools feeding kids food that sucks for them.

If you wanted to make a case for guns in self defense, that was a poor video to choose. They cooperated, the robbers were leaving, and then the shop owners shot at them in the back. I was expecting them to stop the robbers, not wait until they left and start shooting. If the shop owners had shot at them as they came in, it would be more defensible, as whether or not the robber would shoot them was an unknown. But the robbers were leaving, and so the unknown came and went, and the robbers didn't shoot them. As they left, the owners sought revenge. Not defense, not justice, revenge.

They're past the days of suicide being glorified. They're a modern country now, and I don't think the Japanese government wants their high suicide trend to continue

Seems off topic, seeing as you claimed there was an increased suicide rate due to lack of freedoms and that's what was being talking about. But they've got plenty of freedom, just not to carry weapons. Meanwhile, social pressure, caused by parents and peers but not at all by the government, can be overwhelming for some people. If you want to discuss how the Japanese government and/or the Japanese people feel about the high suicide rate, you will need another thread.

The reason Pizza is classified as a vegetable is so that companies that feed kids at school can continue with their unhealthy and unethical practices without feeling bad about it.

I don't think it's the feeling bad about it part. Probably more influenced by all the schools that buy the pizzas and the large amount of income from these sales.

Guns are defense. I don't want some crack head (or zombie) running at me and my family. I live in Texas, and I have a weapon. And honestly, I feel as safe as anyone else without a weapon. They constitution tells me I have the ability to bear arms.

Guns actually suck as a zombie defense weapon. You only have so many bullets, and you won't get more. Need a good melee weapon and long pointy things.

You feel as safe as everyone else without a weapon? What? If you mean on the streets, that's mostly in your head. Robbers get in close to rob you, so about the time you really need to defend yourself, you are unable to reach for your gun anyway.

Guns give me security, and I honestly think its fun to shoot clay targets and stuff (I think killing animals is cruel) but those rednecks. They are nice people. They like shooting weapons, its what they enjoy.

Shooting can be fun. Even banning ownership of guns would still allow shooting ranges, it's just that you wouldn't own a gun and go there to shoot, you would go to shoot the range's guns at their range.

Yes. Would you rather get hurt, or would you rather die?
I think i'd rather be hurt then end my life.

Clearly guns are safer than atom bombs. But not getting shot trumps getting shot. But because a gun might not kill the one shot is not a good reason to distribute them. Because they cause damage and sometimes death, they need to be treated as such. Give me good reasons for having a gun as opposed to not having one, not reasons guns are less dangerous than other implements that kill.

    Quote from ambassadorevil

Before people argue about guns and ****, I want say something. Have you ever known somebody who owns a gun? Being an Arizonan, I know a fair amount of people who guns. NONE of them are gun-toting trigger happy psychopathic rednecks. Everyone I know who has a gun understands that it's pretty easy to kill someone with it, and that's why they don't leave any room to chance. In other words, everyone who owns a gun pretty much always puts safety on high-priority. The idea that only crazy rednecks own guns is a complete stereotype.

It's a stereotype alright, but not entirely undeserved. Texas has a lot of those gun-toting trigger happy rednecks. There was someone in a class I took, bragging that they scared off a couple of Jehovah's Witnesses with their shotgun. It really depends on the person, but extremes are often where stereotypes emerge, and those extremes usually exist to some capacity.

    Quote from TG09

First point: people will kill each each other no matter what, guns is just a weapon used in said process plus an Atom bomb has only one person and that is to kill many people and yes guns are used for the same but not every gun is used to kill but every atom bomb is.

True enough statement. Guns can be used for sport, but they were invented for killing more effectively. That's generally what people endorse ownership for the purpose of, defense of the home or yourself while out for a stroll. Generally it results in extreme pain or death of the other party, so you need some damn good reasons to let people use them. I feel that people want them more for ideological reasons rather than for any reason grounded in solid reasoning.

    Quote from Amarae

The first point you addressed is a valid enough statement. It argues more against those that truly believe guns cause this effect in people, which I have seen enough times to warrant that argument. It's not actually much of an argument at all really in that it does little to support my pro-firearm stance, and does more to dissuade others from bias towards them.

While it doesn't fill people with the urge to murder, there may be something to support the argument that it engenders more problems than not having one. http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn17922-carrying-a-gun-increases-risk-of-getting-shot-and-killed.html

tl;dr, examined 677 shootings accounting for variables, people carrying guns seemed to be "4.5 times as likely to be shot and 4.2 times as likely to get killed compared with unarmed citizens."

To your second point, It does help you in home defense, and it's truly not going to help you from being mugged in an alley, but I will take the defense that I can. If someone enters my property with a gun and intent to kill I would very much so like to be on par with them.

Sure. I didn't say I wanted to get rid of guns. For home defense it's reasonable because the cops probably won't get there in time. Defense against being mugged is commonly cited, though. My only desire here is that anyone who wants to have a gun to defend their home needs to be trained for it. Can't have a bunch of noobs with deadly weapons.

Who is effective at weeding out those that are mentally unstable? Besides this, any who truly want a gun I feel will have the means and desire to obtain one through illegal measures. Though your final statement rings true, I feel that the safety and liberty of owning guns still outweighs the potential negatives, though that is perhaps more subjective.

Some honest attempts would be a step in the right direction. That's something for psychologists to design, though, they'd have better answers than I. Maybe, depending on the area and connections, they could get one anyway. But if someone is mentally unstable and still manages to get a weapon and use it, it's just a lose-lose situation. Even if they can get one some other way, we shouldn't just give a madman a gun.

Sometimes owning guns is good. Sometimes it isn't. But they do kill, so we need to very closely examine that aspect and make sure we're all being as safe as possible about this.

We're not talking about atom bombs. We are talking about GUNS. Will guns go off and hit people? Yes. But do they die? No. Do people shoot at people and constantly shoot till they are dead? Yes.

Fair enough point, but I was pointing out that guns require use like atom bombs do. Grenades as well. The point isn't how they kill, the point is that they are implements to kill. Saying they require a user isn't really important.

Sometimes they do die, depending on where they are hit on how fast/if they get medical attention. I don't see what your point is exactly. Are you saying guns are fine because they might not kill on the first hit?

The people who make these determinations have been deluded into thinking that the tomato paste on school lunch pizza has enough nutrients to count as a vegetable. They must have brought their lunch; those pizzas barely have anything between the cheese and the bread.

What do you find wrong in having the protection of a firearm? Before you answer, remember this, People, harm people guns fires bullets.

I hate that argument with a passion. It's so widely used and a real failure to understand what opponents say of the issue. The only way this addresses a point, is if the other party thinks guns kill of their own volition. It can also be applied to a lot of things of various levels. Atom bombs don't kill people, bomber pilots kill people. Atom bombs just create a nuclear reaction. You'll have to get a better argument than that.

    Quote from Amarae

It gives those that they would harm a more effective tool to defend themselves, and that's perfectly reasonable. Any who would wield a gun to bring the death of another outside of self-defense, were already in a mental state of being that either needed medical help or would lead to long-term incarceration.

Sure, it does make you more effective at defending yourself. But really not as much as people claim. If you're in your house and a couple robbers break in in the night, a gun is a great defense. Walking the streets, however, you'll probably still get robbed just the same.

America sucks at weeding out those mentally unstable people from owning guns though. And they certainly won't bar you from having one if you're mentally sane but still a real violent person.
