How about SMP for a change, or is it too old for your liking? Also, I would like to point out, "this still incomplete feature" is not being put in for the reason of someone want to "play a singleplayer world with friends"(making it SMP), it is because the minecraft development team want to let the community to test it out, and give feedbacks.

You are right though about the rage threads but the thread title was still over reacting. You could have just said "Huge performance drop with new snapshot" and discussed it but instead you assumed the worst, posted a title that assumes EVERYbody will have performance drop and pretty much denied that it would ever be fixed before official release.... so Doomsayer
I really think people are miss interpreting this bit. I don't think the game will just switch to SMP when you invite other players because this would completely defeat the entire purpose of this combined functionality. The developers do not want to be programing two games, features in SMP and features in SSP. There will be one game which will be a SSP SMP hybrid where you play on one listen server (although this may be done with a single JAR). We will, hopefully, not be able to tell the difference when this is all said and done. Right now some people do have a performance drop while others have and increase and there are a number of new bugs introduced in the process of this merger. They mojang blog openly states that this snapshot was particularly "experimental" but most people get the snapshot from the forums and they failed to include the entire post from the blog.
Seems like you want to get so technical:
[21, infinity) is a subset of [18, infinity), thus making your statement "18+ is still lower then 21" partially wrong.
Face it: Running a server and connect to it using a client will always have a decreased performance than running a single player game, guaranteed.
Regardless of how many people support this idea, I still think this change is bizarre, and my support goes to the OP: If I want to play a single player game, I want to keep it single player. Running a server and connect to it defeat the definition of "single" player. Arguing that running a server and connect to it alone by yourself is "single player" is just *beep*.
One last thing: You really need to drop the "doomsayer" thing.

Enter portal. Watch as minecraft goes haywire entering/exiting the nether over and over again, and after around 30 of these minecraft crashes. Restart minecraft only to find your inventory missing and back at either the original spawn point, or if you're far enough away from it a random location within 200 blocks. *sigh*
I was using the experimental version on an nvidia 6150 if that makes a difference. Also, rendering inside the nether works just fine. It's just when you step into the portal... nether side or earth side matters not.
I can conform this.

ie. if the mod was turned off this time, next time you start minecraft again, it remains off, same for on. :biggrin.gif:

So Basically What I Was Doing Was I Went On Single Player To Play A Little And Then My Minecraft Just Crashed
