Also the diamond ore decrease is a bug. It should be patched in 1.17.1, according to Mojang.

    Where's the source?

Been hearing a lot about diamonds being far rarer.

Seems like the game is ruined balance wise, Agtrigormortis was right.

It's now easier to get diamonds from raiding structures or trading than from actual mining.

So a wise miner will only mine emeralds from now on...

But how though? I still don't get it.

Apart from making the game more grindy by making ores rarer...

Did I miss something? Ores are going to be rarer now? How?

Alright, this will be a bit of a brain dump, so apologies in advance.

So I've been playing minecraft for a while now, and on a lot of different platforms. The game's changed a lot since 2014 when Microsoft bought out mojang, Microsoft has had 0 experience with sandbox games like this. Take it or leave it, but minecraft IS a sandbox game at its core, but Microsoft didn't see that, luckily for a while microsoft didn't do too much in terms of changing minecraft as a whole, not to say that the updates from the time that microsoft bought mojang to update 1.12.2 were good, they were anything but that, but they weren't game breaking/changing. they were bad but they still felt like good old minecraft, the game that wasn't going to die.

Let me just add a description of updates 1.13+

    1.13

    -aquatic update

    MY OPINIONS:

A lot of unnecessary features, sure they look flashy but they add no substance. Additionally all the new mobs and blocks and also structures added a lot of linearity to the game, most of all the structures. The features looked great from a marketing perspective, but other than that they were just for shock value and needless pumping of "features"

    1.14

    -village and pillage

    MY OPINIONS:

The textures. oh my gosh the textures... WHY. dull. boring. contrasting in the wrong way. too smooth for minecraft. minecraft is BLOCK GAME, not smooth retro top-of-the-line pixel art. I have nothing against the art as a whole, it just doesn't fit minecraft, it genuinely feels dull. Additionally villagers became too overpowered and predictable, trades are too cheap for too much. villages look better, but that isn't necessarily good, it makes the player feel as if the world is built for them, and not the player building the world for themselves, if the villages are already incredible, there is no need to build a base or anything to improve the world. Also when you find a village you essentially have infinite food (bread) from the hey bales. the update isn't well thought out from a game play perspective.

    1.15

    -buzzy bees

    MY OPINIONS:

more useless blocks. honey is cool and all but takes away some complexity from redstone and additionally is completely unnecessary. bees just look unminecrafty and feel modded, once again just appealing to people who want to see new flashy things that will have them interested in the update and not the actual gameplay, people just came back to the game to go into a creative world, check it out, then leave again.

    1.16

    -nether update

    MY OPINIONS:

why mojang, why you gotta do me like that? NETHERITE? N-E-T-H-E-R-I-T-E? they just dated every single minecraft LP, SMP, post, everything. Diamonds have always been the best, and now... netherite? bribery to get me to check out your awful nether "revamp"? it seems like they just WANT a bunch of clickbaity titles "FOUND NETHERITE AT 3AM??? (GONE WRONG) (I LOST MY STUFF)" They just want to be more popular, which don't get me wrong is good from a buisness perspective, but what it feels like is just a simple pump and dump scheme, which is harsh wording but you get the point. Also why did they have to rename pigmen, really? don't BS me and tell me that it's for "inclusiveness"... it's for headlines, it's a lame attempt at rebranding for popularity.

The game is not minecraft anymore, it's more traditional, like terraria. don't get me wrong, terraria is great, but terraria is in no way minecraft. And don't even get me started on the dream smp and mcYT. It just feels like minecraft is not the same as it was in 2012, I know games change, but this isn't just natural change, it's bad management. and don't tell me that they can't please everyone, because they had been for the last 10 years, and don't tell me to just play old versions, because I do that already and it's not the same knowing what the future holds for the game. Sorry if that came off really heated, I'm just pissed at microsoft.

Here are some questions that I have that I want you to answer separately in the same reply:

First off, you say that these features from recent updates are "flashy" and "unnecessary". What do you suggest Mojang should add then that aren't? What do you suggest they should change to make all these features not "flashy" "and unnecessary"?

Secondly, what do you think of people who want more dungeons, bosses, enemies, weapons, etc. added to Minecraft? Imagine if the game became more like Hytale. What do you think of that?

Thirdly, just a minor question, how is honey unnecessary? How does it take away some complexity from redstone and why is that bad?

Honestly I'm beginning to doubt more and more the ability of Microsoft to make not bad updates, like don't get me wrong, updates from the last 3 years have been pretty awful, but this is just the cherry on the cake... wow

Sorry if this feels rude but I don't get it. What was so bad about the previous updates? What about each update did you not like? and what's wrong with the current update?

This update just doesn’t feel so much like Minecraft, it feels like a mod. A great mod, and fun in its own right, but not vanilla Minecraft.

What does it mean for something to be "vanilla Minecraft"? I'm still puzzled by this. And what does and doesn't feel like Minecraft? I would really like an answer to both these questions please.

posted a message on The newest 3 installations of Minecraft should not be what they are.

Seriously, you're telling me the cave update, which is by far the most wanted update ever, the update that the community desperately wanted for years, is by far the worst? Simply because there are stuff that feels "too modded". Okay then at least tell me this.

What would you add or change if you had control over 1.17?

And here's another question: How can Mojang add features that don't feel modded? What does that even mean? To this day I still don't understand that. I mean don't people want better systems, improved features, and more content?

I mean look at Hytale it has TONS of content in it both for adventure and for building, at least from the looks of it. Why can't Minecraft have the same?

I don't mean to be harsh with this comment. I respect that it's your opinion, but I want to understand why that's your opinion.

I really hope you reply to all these questions and give me answers.

Hi there, ZaffreAqua. I asked you a question before.

    This is what I said:

"Wait really? Glow squid was the one you voted for? I'm not complaining but I'm just curious. Why the glow squid? And why not the Iceologer?"

Of the 3 mobs to vote for, glow squid got my vote and I'm glad it got the majority of the votes too. Fitting, considering underground bodies of water will be a thing!

For me, the underground was enough of a doozy as is, even before the minor additions from 1.8-1.16. I feel like this is going to be overwhelming, and I agree some of it 'feels' modded, but maybe that's a good thing.

I thought the underground was said to be underwhelming post-1.6.4.I personally never noticed but some people say that ever since 1.6.4 the caves were downgraded somehow.

All popular Minecraft Youtubers that talk about the 1.17 update feels like they are doing it because of a sponsorship. It feels like a biased video about the update because of a sponsorship contract is preventing them from saying critical/negative things.

I hate the spikes, the bundles, the stupid telescope, the archaeology stuff, and new pots. They feel like things you would easily find in modded Minecraft from 1.8.

    • Spikes: I would expect 3D spikes or something, but no, instead we have 2D spikes just like how plants are presented. I hate how thick they are and feel like a total eye-sore.
    • Bundles: They have the exact same functionality as shulker except worse. The main problem I have with this is the UI of it, instead of seeing the exact number or what items that are inside it, you just get a blob of items and manually have to count them.
    • Telescope: We never needed and we still never needed it. I feel like it is equivalent to clocks, they are worthless other than to have them on a item frame for decoration.
    • Archaeology stuff: Why would we need this in a update? This is straight up feels like it is from a archaeology/Jurassic Park mod!! There is no purpose of this stupid new feature other than getting expensive items from dirt/gravel OR being able to create a pot.
    • Pots: This feels like a custom block that a map developer would make for their map. It's cool I guess? But I find it still very dumb.

Also is it me or does it seem there will be a BIG performance problem?? The brushes for example, it feels like it turns dirt/gravel/etc into snow, where there are multiple layers of something. I feel like if there is too many of these different layer blocks it will have a performance problem.

Just when the update was announced and someone is already salty about it.I respect your opinion but the snapshot isn't even out yet so at least be cautiously optimistic about the update rather than be pessimistic.

Is it relevant for me to show this thread?: https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-java-edition/discussion/3031866-why-i-believe-minecraft-needs-a-serious-change

Because it talks about how recent updates aren't taking the path they should. Is 1.17 really gonna be like that?
