Modern graphics, blood, terrain not destroyable, maps instead of random worlds, guns, and little 8-year-old b!tches who whine about everything, and a license to Activision.
i think there's already a mod that does something similar...
however, i like the idea in itself...
maybe it could be used jointly with the already mentioned idea of rituals (i think it was LutherAD's idea) that would need candles, and sacrifices, and different variations of magical circles would create different outcomes.
I was thinking of a new system for runes. In the stead of arcane runes, you would have magical circles and drawings on walls or floors. They can't be put on some materials if they're too big, like grass or leaves, and you would need quite a large area for the more complex ones.
Pretty much, first you craft chalk. You make it from a stick and two coal because I'm unoriginal and too lazy to look up how chalk is made. Once you have the chalk, you can use it to craft arcane chalk. Arcane chalk is made with one element besides the chalk. It is called the arcane filament. The arcane filament is made by infusing iron with magic in some form of a infuser with a extract of purest magic. You craft the filled chalk by putting the two in the crafting sqaure anywhere. The recipe is shapeless.
Once you have the chalk, you can begin drawing your circle. However, you cannot create one without knowing first how to draw it. You can research various substances to discern their runes. Once you have these, you can research them to get the magic circle design. The size is important, as is where the runes are placed.
Now comes the relatively simple part. Right-click with the chalk on the ground and a menu will pop up. It will have sliders for size and number of runes, modifiers, and an image of the rune which will change as you add or remove components. If the surface is not valid for the rune, a message will pop up about it. You can drag and drop the runes from the right side onto the circle, and select various types of circles if you have them researched. Modifiers are glyphs that add additional smaller circles to your circle, each adding strength, power, or other attibutes to your cirlce. The end result will look somewhat like this, depending on how many modifiers you have: http://4.bp.blogspot...agic_circle.jpg
Now for effects. Each rune will have some effect or effects, and they will stack up, combine, and react to produce the final outcome for your rune. For example, fire will output a steam of flames, and combined with water will produce steam. Once you're finished drawing, the circle will plop into place in your world. It will immediatly activate, unless you included a redstone-power modifier or the like.
Thanks for the suggestions. This version is a bit out of date though, and there are new features and redesigns. I'll post pictures in a bit if I can, if not tomorrow.

That's all for now. Happy Thaumcrafting!
