Just a random thought after looking through tons of youtube video tutorials...why do so many minecraft youtubers have really cheesy digital/electronic music in the background?
I just got something working. It isn't very compact, but it works hehe.
Standard etho hopper timer set turn on/off every 30-60 seconds (still playing with timing).
That feeds into a pulse limiter (y o u tube.com/watch?v=chvHPGP4gC0), so that when the etho timer is "on", I'm only sending one pulse like a button.
That one pulse triggers a signal duration timer I found here: y o u tube.com/watch?v=dNZhugdQwdE . So I put about 12 stone in that hopper setup, and it creates an 'on' signal for 10'ish seconds.
So the etho clock controls how often to dispense water in the farm, and the duration timer thing controls how long to have the water flushing.
Not that compact yet, but good enough. I'll just build it outside the farm and run a signal line in.
Thanks. Still searching for one that works. I tried your link, and it claims to do what I want, but after building it, it didn't seem to work as advertised.
Can anyone suggest a design for a clock that triggers a dispenser to flush a mob farm pad for about 15 seconds, then turns the water off, then waits 45-55 seconds, then does the on/off 15 second dispenser again?
I've been playing around with hopper timers. I can create a hopper timer with a couple sticky pistons (Etho design) and a redstone block in between, but can't figure out how to work in a 45-55 second delay between the 15 second flushes.
Is "two stage clock" the type of thing I should be searching for?
I found this example, but have not fully parsed it yet:
Or is there an easier setup to flush mob farm pads every X seconds for Y duration, every Z seconds?
I figured that extending the edge of the platform effected the water flow. Odd. If there were dips, holes, or edges that were closer than other edges, it seemed to change the path of the water. I've got it figured out now.
I set up 4 dispeners with a sticky piston to push a redstone block into the center of them to dispense water. 1 of the dispensers is not fully covering the same area with water that the other dispensers are covering. Why is that?
"Put in Iron Golems to kill other mobs that aren't slimes, and have a room with named and caged villagers (so they won't despawn) and so the zombies will get to them. If you can't make IG's, then make pitfalls by the villagers outside the cage to kill zombies in lava/fall trap/hoppers etc."
Thanks for the tip. I saw another poster who put an iron golem in a cage set on top of a cactus. The slimes would move towards the golem, trying to get it, and hit the cactus. Surrounding the cactus was hoppers that catched the slime loot and dropped it into chests. I might go that route. But... I need a slime to spawn first:)
My layers are 3 high since I'm lazy and didn't want to make slabs. Will that decrease the spawn rate significantly?
OK, I just saw my first slime after digging down to layer 11. Maybe the lower you go, the better the chance? Regardless, I might as well hit bed rock and make a ton of layers above it. I double checked my seed, and it was correct, so I'm in the correct coordinates.
I guess slimes are just super rare compared to earlier versions of minecraft?
Yeah, I marked the corners of the room according to the slime chunk finder. I'm standing a bit back just to show a screenshot of the room with its several layers of floors. And the entity count was low, so that wasn't my issue either. Hmm. Maybe I'll dig down to bedrock and see if that helps. I know the wiki says <40 should be good.. but since I'm seeing zero spawns (standing between 24 blocks and 128 blocks away of course), I can't think of anything else.
"Probably not, but chose your world in the launcher and click "Re-Create", click "More World Options" and copy the seed from the box at the top."
Recreate world, nice. I'll try that.
"Just use the logs. Otherwise, just right click and mark it. "
You can't right click and mark chat output, which is what /seed produces, but I had forgotten about logs. That likely is the easiest route, thanks for the tip.
If I type /seed in the console, it outputs the seed value of my map. Is there a way to copy that console output? It seems like a simple thing, but I was unable to find a way to do it.

That is probably the reason. I'd rather they just skip the music personally, but to each their own:)

"What exactly are you trying to do?"
Build this:
I figured that extending the edge of the platform effected the water flow. Odd. If there were dips, holes, or edges that were closer than other edges, it seemed to change the path of the water. I've got it figured out now.

You were right...I somehow missed putting a bucket in that dispenser.
However, after correcting that issue, I still had a single dispenser that is not dispersing water evenly.

I removed the dispenser and tried just a plain bucket of water. Same problem:(

I also dug out the room to the right of me: http://www.jasonwhitener.com/slimes2.png no slimes there as well.
Maybe I typo'd my seed. I'll check tonight.

Thanks for the replies. I am currently hunting for slimes:) http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-discussion/seeds/2759130-slime-spawns

"Console as in, the in game chat? No, you can't copy from that."
Yes. Darn.
So if I wanted to copy my world's seed to clipboard to paste into a forum post, there is no way to do that? I ended up typing it by hand: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-discussion/discussion/2759130-slime-spawns , but it seemed like there should be a way to copy paste the in game console chat output.

Seed: 1855599415370466102
Room: http://www.jasonwhitener.com/slimes.png
http://chunkbase.com/apps/slime-finder#1855599415370466102
I have dug out several layers around what the slime chunk finder said was a slime spawn area. I have yet to see a slime. Am I doing something wrong?
