Almost done, just a few textures left to do.

Also, do we need to do the block breaking texture?

Oh, I could do with some clarification. I'm going to be away for 2 weeks on the 15th, with limited internet access. Provided I submit the texture pack before then, there's nothing to make me ineligible to enter the contest, is there?

*sigh* why am i not surprised >.< well, glad i asked first. thanks

That's not strictly speaking true, it depends on the license. Some people have licenses stating that you are allowed to remix their work without permission, provided you give credit. Some of these state that you must share-alike, meaning your work must use the same license to use it. Theoretically, they can let you use the work for commercial purposes, allowing you to do Adf.ly, but I've never seen it.

If the artist uses a Creative Commons license, you want one that doesn't say NoDerivs (the equals sign). If it has NonCommercial (crossed dollar sign), you can't use Adf.ly.

If the artist uses a Texture Artist Union logo, you want one that is either Wood (doesn't require credit) or Iron (requires credit).

If they don't use either, you have to read the license. Pretty much all licenses have a clause allowing the creator to give you permission if you ask, but most people will state whether they will accept in the post.

That's amazing! You've really managed to make some of the harder colours work well.

Aww, that's a bummer. I was looking forward to how your pack would come out. But school certainly comes before this.

Okay, quick progress album! I've decided to go with a bit of a retro video game style.

The Paint.NET palette is awful. This is probably going to turn out horribly, but I've got some free time over the week, so why not.

You mean like this, right? I'm looking forward to the blog being set up, it's good to see how the modding is going along, so I'll remember to read it, especially when it gets it's own site.

posted a message on Popular Texture Packs (Including MC Patcher!)
That's really quite subjective. You say obviously Dokucraft, but I'd be inclined to say Gerodoku is more popular because of the Yogscast. Painterly is another popular one. I'd quite like to see actual statistics (downloads, views, ect.) before you call a pack the definitive most popular one. Those are all good texture packs, though. It works well as an opinionated list.

posted a message on Tips on designing item icons
If you mean the icons in your inventory that show the block at a side view, those are made for you. If you just mean items in general, I find those quite hard too, really. I suggest that you try to keep to a consistent style, keep the same colour pallete for items of the same material (iron bars and buckets, for example), and make sure to use shading.

There's this, but it sadly isn't released yet. I'm sure I remember seeing another a long while back, but I can't remember what it's called, and it's probably not updated anyway.

posted a message on Any texture pack compatible with Millenaire?
The Yogbox comes with a version of Painterly Pack and SMP's Revival, which are compatible with the mods in the pack (including Millenaire). I don't know if you can get them without downloading the Yogbox, though.

Yeah, what echonite said. At a guess, you're using MS Paint, which doesn't support transparency. If you need a free editor that supports transparency, your best bet is probably Paint .NET - it's free and easy to use.

posted a message on How do you make a zip file for a texture pack?
If you've got WinRAR or 7Zip, your best bet is to open the minecraft.jar and look at the folder structure (ignore the class files). Your terrain.png should just go straight into the zip folder, but everything else needs to be in subfolders. The items.png should go in a folder called 'gui', mob textures go in the 'mob' folder and armour goes in the 'armor' folder. There are other files, but those are the main ones.

posted a message on O_O Howdo i do this?
You might have to either replace the biome colouring manually (or with MC Patcher) or use a different block with a grass texture as grass, because otherwise the grass texture is going to automatically turn green due to the way biome colouring works. Also, it's impossible (as far as I know) to have some of the particle effects black and white because they automatically change colour.
