I then did a bit of Googling and discovered that my Java (v.8 update 25) was too new for MC. So I uninstalled that version, and installed Java 7 from the page below:-

It worked! Although Steve still doesn't have eyebrows, but I'm sure I can get that fixed with further reading.

I also now know that if I need to use a newer version of Java for other applications, I can still get Minecraft to use Java 7 (I think I would do that by specifying that in Launcher > Profile Editor > Java Settings-Advanced > Executable?). As long as I have installed Java 7 into a separate location to any newer version of Java. For the moment though, this laptop is only really used for MC and a bit of web surfing so I'm hoping I won't need to do that just yet.

Java 8 should actually work with Minecraft... I and many others use Java 8 with Minecraft.
Java 8 is fairly new to the stable release so there shouldn't be too many programs that require Java 8 just yet, heck many people still makes their programs for Java 6 to support the people who don't know/don't want to update their Java, so you should be good for a while if you feel like staying with Java 7.

What browser did you use to download Java 8? It doesn't happen to be chrome, does it?
I'm sure finally after sorting that mess out you don't want to mess with it too much but Mojang recently made a new launcher that keeps it's own version of Java in a separate folder to use, so you don't even need Java installed on the machine or you could have a different/same version also installed on the machine. If you do feel like trying it out, you can download it at https://minecraft.net/download . It uses the same folder location for mods and all of that fun stuff so you won't have to redo all of the forge installation of anything like that.

As for the eyebrow problem... Hmm, odd. Have you ever changed the skin (What the player looks like) of the Minecraft account and then changed it back to Steve? If so the mod might not be able to recognize that it's the default skin and might be messing with it. For good measure, maybe try clicking "Reset" at https://minecraft.net/profile while logged in and accept the prompt. This will make sure you have the default Steve skin. Also, if you wanted to pick a different skin theres a link in the first post to skins that this mod supports.

I definitely switched to 1.7.2 and put the two mods in the '.minecraft/mods' folder. Steve looks like he does in your signature Trixter - straight arms and legs, and definitely no eyebrows!

Just a thought - when I change 'Use version' in the Profile Editor, should I have changed it to '1.7.2' or to 'release 1.7.2-Forge10.12.2.1121'? I initially changed it to '1.7.2', then opened Minecraft but the mod hadn't worked. However, I have just changed the version to 'release 1.7.2-Forge10.12.2.1121'. I clicked 'Play', but then the launcher disappeared and Minecraft didn't open at all. Does this shed any light on anything?

You should definitely be using the 1.7.2-Forge10.12.2.1121 version, not vanilla (Unmodded) 1.7.2 version. It sounds like an issue with the forge installation... Click edit profile and change Launcher Visibility to stay open, click save, and post the log from that in spoilers here. I'm no expert at reading them but I know general stuff about them and someone else could see it and help also.

You could use a 3rd party launcher as suggested by VivaGabe but the only problems with that is one, you can't get support as easily as you can if you use the default launcher, but support is out there, and two since you're putting your login credentials into a 3rd party program they can do whatever they wish with that information. Not saying that they will do that or that that is their intentions but there is always a chance of something of those sorts happening.

Trixster - well thank you for your fast reply :) All of the previous mods I have done have been for 1.7.10 and, whilst I knew that the mod version had to match the Minecraft version, I just assumed that the latest version of Forge was what was required regardless of the mod/MC version.

I have just downloaded and run 'forge-1.7.2-10.12.2.1121-installer-win' and then re-opened Minecraft. However, Steve still has stiff arms and legs. Please can you tell me what he should look like?

If you made sure to switch to the 1.7.2 forge version in your launcher and put the mod into your mods folder, it should look similar to the pictures from the first post on this mod page, but those pictures are old so it should be even more round than those.

Hi guys, I am my 7-year-old son's mom :-) Now, I have spent a good few hours over the last week reading almost ALL of this thread (yes, honestly) because my son has been asking me desperately for this mod. Up until this one, I have felt pretty proud of myself for having installed around 40 mods so far, considering I am not a gamer!

Anyway, my problem - Minecraft is NOT crashing and so there is no crash report to show (and if there was, I would be sure to put it in spoiler tags) and I am not asking when 1.7.10 is being released (phew). I just can't see that Steve looks any different. Is he supposed to have bent arms or something (at a bare minimum, I know there is so much more to this mod than that, but all I know how to do is to make Steve wiggle his right arm, and jump!). Here's our setup:-

    Minecraft 1.7.2
Forge 1.7.10-10.13.2.1230 (or should I be using 1.7.2?)
    AnimationAPI 1.7.2-1.2.2
    Animated Player 1.7.2-1.5.0

I have put both 'AnimationAPI-1.7.2-1.2.2.jar' and 'AnimatedPlayer-1.7.2-1.5.0.jar' into the 'AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\mods' folder.

I have re-installed Minecraft tonight in order to 'start afresh'. I can see in the '.minecraft/versions' folder that I have the following sub-folders:-

    1.7.2
    1.7.10
    1.7.10-Forge10.13.2.1230

Should I be putting the two 'jar' files into any of the above folders instead of into '.minecraft/mods'? At present, none of the above folders have a 'mods' folder in them, but I could obviously create one if need be.

I would truly appreciate any help that you could offer. I have pored over this thread so much, but I am getting nowhere fast and going slightly bonkers in the process

Yes, you should be using a 1.7.2 forge if you're going to be using 1.7.2 mods. :)
All of your mods have to be made for the same Minecraft version so if you're adding this as another mod you will have to re-download all of your current mod's 1.7.2 version instead of 1.7.10.
You can download the latest recommended 1.7.2 version of Forge at http://files.minecraftforge.net/

Have you tried with smaller levels of AA and AF?

Same issue occurs when trying to put each on their lowest setting, 2. Even when trying with one off and the other on the lowest.

All versions of Optifine work with LiteLoader.

For some reason when I loaded Optifine B6 with LiteLoader it wouldn't let me connect to any servers but when I took Optifine out and put it back in it started working again. This happened to my friend also and to fix her issue she had to downgrade to B5... I'm not sure why this is happening but they are both fixed now so it doesn't matter really =P Just wanted to report it here

re-run vanilla minecraft and install optifine again. Mojang sends out unannounced Realms updates that the older versions of OF don't have inheritance for. Optifine 1.8.1_HD_U_B6 and Optifine 1.8_HD_U_B6 should have inheritance though.

Realms does not support Optifine or mod loaders

I used Forge, LiteLoader, and Optifine fine on Realms. Most mods work as long as their clientside. This bug was supposed to be fixed in the B6 version of Optifine, which is why I recommended they update their Optifine.

What advantage would there be if this was a litemod?

Well, mostly just diversifying and supporting more platforms in general is always good.
Some people only like to use LiteLoader without Forge because as the name implies, it's lighter on the system and causes less lag than Forge.
Many modders are slowly starting to switch over to LiteLoader because they said it was easier to make mods for than Forge and since LiteLoader and Forge can be ran together, it doesn't limit the user to only using LiteLoader.

Just went through all of the posts and realized no ones asked this question yet so I thought I'd throw it out there =P
Is there a possibility you could make this into a LiteLoader mod also? If you still wanted to keep Forge support you could have 2 downloads (And some mods even have one download that works with both)
I know some mods can't be made into a litemod, but usually if the mod is just clientside it can be, so just wondering :)
Might be interesting to look into.

What program can I use to make my own animation? Thank you. :P

Any photo editing software or skin editing software that lets you edit the actual image. I'll recommend MCSkin 3D though.
