I've been mostly crash free since last post -- had one after letting Windows do an update. I uninstalled what it would let me and haven't had a crash since then but i did have a random PC restart which is strange but maybe telling. I have an EVGA power supply that I reused from my old PC build and it is about 3 years old (purchased in Feb 2017). I researched and learned that the lifespan of EVGA PSU is about 2-4 years. Maybe it is dying. Have a new EVGA PSU being delivered in next day or two (difficult to find one during this "Human Malware" time). If that fixes issues for good then yay. And I will get a Corsair next time as they average about 3-8 years.

Solved issue on mine and might work for you. Feel free to try but there's not guarantee.

Download Rufus and reinstall older version of windows 10 (hope you have your product key) like 1809.

The install/update drivers, antivirus, games, windows updates, etc.

Looks like my issue has been solved.

I do not know if the image i downloaded for windows 10 is bad or otherwise -- it does not work.

To solve my problem, i used Rufus to download an older version of Windows 10 (went back to older version/build).

From here, i can update to current versions and should be fine.

It appears there is an "advantage" to starting from a previous version and then updating instead of starting with new versions.

I suspect there are permissions set on the older builds that do not get overridden during updates. However, downloading the new builds to start off those permissions are different and create the resource conflicts that cause the crash. I may not be saying this correctly but it is what i suspect.

When you reinstalled Windows 10, did you use the original ISO or a newly downloaded one? Reinstalling windows could have reset your driver version to an incompatible state. What process did you use to reinstall Win 10?

Also, it looks like you are using two monitors (one from your laptop and and a connected monitor). You also have the integrated graphics (HD Graphics 530) and a GeForce GTX 960M. You will need to check both driver versions are updated. Are you able to see what graphics card is being used in the debug screen?

It appears this issue is too difficult for anyone to figure out (tried several different forums as well as Java, Microsoft and the IT organization I work for). Looks like it is time to rebuild my old PCs that have working OS and game.

I created a shortcut on my desktop (standard user) to use a "runas" on the launcher executable with the built in administrator account (so that i only executed the game with the privileges and not be logged into the account). I had to update the security properties but otherwise it seems to have worked -- I ran the game all day/night without any crashes. This leads me to believe there is a security setting (or security update within Windows) that is causing. I've seen another post where one person reinstalled Windows and having the same exact issue as I am having. I believe any new installs (or reinstalls) could have this problem.

I fully expect the issue to be the result of a mismatch between OS/Driver/Game(java) files or UAC/Windows security. Supposing this is correct, workarounds is only solution until a more permanent fix is made.

That being said, I am going to try a "workaround/solution". A previous test was on admin account with UAC disabled. Since this is a global setting, i don't not like this workaround. Trying to set up a shortcut to a scheduled task that is set to run at highest privileges for just the game. Was only able to set up by temporarily making account admin and then setting back to standard when done. If it works, I'll post how I set it up.

Looks like a temporary workaround is to change UAC settings to disabled. I also did this with admin privileges. No crash when i ran one overnight (afk) test. I would not recommend leaving this set though. You could end up with new software or software changes that were "uninvited".

Son's PC started to crash again.

Put in new memory and still crashing.

Guess I am done trying to figure it out.

Solution for me will be to return/sell this new PC hardware and put the old systems back together.

    Update:

Son's PC seems to be working now without any crashes with memory positioned in a2/b2 slots vs. a1/b1 slots. Have not set XMP or adjust CPU profiles in any way (basically running default/auto bios values).

On my PC, I have made same adjustments as son's PC but still getting crashes. I put in some older EVGA memory (8GX-D4-2800-MR) 4x8GB and did not have any crashes leaving game running overnight. Played couple hours during next day with no issues. By evening, began having BSoD (about 8) with desktop flashing black and back to normal. Rebooted PC and only able to boot to BIOS (could not recognize my hard drive as bootable). Had to wipe hard drive clean and start over. while cleaning hard drive, updated bios to newest version (was only one version behind) and disconnected all other sata connections. After bios update and cleaning hard drive, reinstalled hard drive and installed OS from USB without any issue. Loaded/installed pending OS updates, video card driver and antivirus (zonealarm). Skipped any other software updates/installs for now. installed game to my non-admin gaming account and ran game overnight. Another crash (same error). At this point, I am running another memtest86 to check memory again.

Will start to also procure new parts to start replacing one at a time and also get other pc diagnostic software to check CPU, MB, etc.

So far, the issue seems to have been BIOSsetting I initially made during setup. Other PC has been running continuously without crash for about 6 hours now (sitting afk). I cancelled test on my PC due to other setup needs which included a hang that resulted in me needing to clear CMOS. Will continue to monitor but i am starting to feel the issue was the "gaming profile" or the Memory multiplier setting on the BIOS.

    crash.

Having done a fresh Windows 10 install with bare minimal changes to anything else (except to make things work via updated drivers and such), I am still experiencing the same crash. I now believe the most likely culprit is hardware or bios.

Did a memtest run and it found no errors. Did more research on motherboard and memory but don't see any obvious compatibility issues (or system may not even run at all). Trying default bios settings. I had increased memory speed as it should be able to handle more (i had changed to 3200 but set back to default of 2300). Also changed back to default from gaming profile. On other PC, i altered memory slot config to A2/B2 (mine set to A1/B1) as these are essentially the two dual channel setups. Also changed bios back to default parameters on other PC.

Now running game on both PCs (afk). Not quite an hour in so not being optimistic just yet.

Hour running and so far no issues/crashes.

I did a complete reinstall of Windows 10 from USB (still had my product key) and cleaning the OS disk using DISKPART utility.

I did not install Java -- the msi installer will install java itself.

I have not altered the .minecraft folder yet as i want to check how the "vanilla" package will behave.

The only alterations i made was increasing memory allocation to 6GB in the installer and changed in game: render distance to 32; brightness to 85%; volume down.

Will update with results later (crash or no crash).
