See, this isn't so much a suggestion for adding to Minecraft as it is a suggestion to make a completely new Minecraft game with a completely new theme and new set of items. In that light, it doesn't really belong here where people are suggesting things for the current game.
Just as bedrock is a limit to let the player know there is no more content as you burrow down; diamonds should be that final threshold; the final and strongest material. The ZENITH, if you will.
That would be a pretty lame griefing attempt, I think. There's much worse things they could do, since it wouldn't be too difficult just to right-click it back to what you want it (griefers could do this now, and it would be much harder to get your desired photo back). If this was done though, paintings could be harder to knock down, since you wouldn't need to as much.
And a GUI would be pretty neat (that's like making your own photos, right?), but that's another suggestion. This is just a very simple, 1 click change, to make paintings slightly easier to use :smile.gif:
I wouldn't even call it griefing. It's just that people tend to put up specific images and destroying/altering them is always a problem, even purely by accident.
And a GUI doesn't mean you're making the image or anything, it simply means you get some sort of menu. I imagine it could be as simple as an image of the painting with left and right arrow buttons on either side to cycle through the paintings before you place it.
First of all, the Report Button is NOT a toy. "This guy accused me of not reading. :sad.gif: " is not a valid report. All of you need to think before you report.
I find this hilarious because it follows directly after me reporting the five or six people who didn't read ,for "off-topic" posts.
I'm gonna have to say no. You can attach this to a cobblestone generator, and basically get unlimited cobblestone, without having to lift a finger. People could build castles, without having to mine a single thing. A little too OP if you ask me.
As long as this tool had some sort of durability (maybe about the same as the tool tier that it is crafted at) you would still have to mine to get the crafting materials each time it breaks down. That said, it's already been pointed out why this idea would not have many other applications.
I'd rather a gui of some sort (and making pictures just a little bit harder to knock down by accident), so that you can't just walk around right-clicking all the paintings in someone's house.
Well, since no one has a real opinion on the actual topic, I guess it's up to me to spur a little discussion.
How would this idea actually be useful? I can only think of one case in which this could be used (an auto-mining cobble stone farm), and that might be a little over-powered. As for all other cases in which it might be used, don't you have to mine the block in the fist place just to put it in front of this auto-miner?
But there is a point. I think you misunderstood sir! The point is to annoy all minecraft players!
So would you also approve of adding a feature to the game that causes the screen to flash for no apparent reason at random times? Or making it so that sometimes you get dirt instead of diamond when mining? Annoying is not beneficial to the game.
The forums ARE the textures and skins database. Competent artists clearly label the version number that their packs are for so that you know whether or not they are up to date, and if you like a texture pack enough you as a player should be perfectly capable of keeping track of the appropriate thread so that you can re-download after it is updated.
I imagine you could, say.. throw a torch down a hole or something, but the video itself shows off little that you couldn't already do by just placing a torch. The distance that you can throw an item is considerably shorter than the reach you have for placing items and blocks. As for walking around with a torch, just bring more torches. It's more sane to light up the whole cave instead of leaving darkness behind you anyway.

That depends.. What was it about? I didn't bother reading because the title alone offended me.

And no, we don't really need a block that does our work for us.

Why is what you say somehow final? People have every right to disagree with you.
