Does anyone know where I can find the files needed for the Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 version of Portal Gun? I'm trying to resurrect an old beta world that I do NOT want to bring into more recent versions. I've checked the downloads on Ichun's blog but the downloads there don't go back earlier than MC 1.1

Alternatively you can bookmark a link to the thread /unread to always be taken to the latest unread post, eg:
Thanks. I'll just add "/unread" to my bookmarked forum urls then. (I only watch a very few threads and never bother with the general forum wide lists of posts. I generally don't have time for forums and instead only watch key threads).
Sep 4, 2014I've not looked at the forum for some time but came back today to check on a thread or two to find out about new developments and I've run into one really annoying problem.Posted in: Forum Discussion & Info
Time was that threads one has read in the past always contained a link at the top of the thread "View first unread", which would take you to the first message in a thread that you've not read.
Now this link/function seems to be missing entirely. This is so for threads i've read in the last week and for threads i'm subscribed to.
Makes keeping up with threads pretty much impossible

I can't wait for optifine.
What is going to be the zoom button? Because Ctrl is now for sprinting
I decided to remap the sprint key from Ctrl to "R". It's handy, close to "W" and easy to use. This let me keep the zoom function on Ctrl where I'm used to finding it.
Apr 16, 2013Where can I get a copy of the old Pre-Anvil version of MCEdit? When I try to load a Beta Minecraft map in the new version it complains that there are no chunks in spite of the fact that I know there are.Posted in: Minecraft Tools
And no, I have no plans to move this world from Beta 1.5 to the current version
Feb 9, 2013Tinfoilchef posted a message on DaftPVF's Mods (Treecapitator, CrystalWing, StartingInv, FloatingRuins)Can Treecapitator work on an FTB server? Specifically can I install it on a server running the Direwolf20 pack (v5.0.1) or the MindCrack pack (v8.0.1). I've read through the last several pages of the thread without finding mention of it. I'd search but forum search is worthless.Posted in: Minecraft Mods

Would be awesome if you can implement a particle effect slider so you can increase the limit.
The guy that made it (KaboPC) said, that it's not compatible with Optifine.
This. Definitely this.

Tha same happens in vanilla, not OptiFine related.
I see the flickering ghost torches in the Nether when looking in one particular direction.
Ok, thanks. Guess it's time to nag Jeb_ about it instead.
Nov 9, 2012Using OptiFine HD D1 Ultra for 1.4.4 I'm seeing a strange lighting effect that looks like torches randomly flickering into existence for a split second in apparently random places on the screen. It's happening too fast to get a screenshot though.Posted in: Minecraft Mods
No other mods used, using default textures
Oct 26, 2012I'm using 1.4.2 OptiFine HD A7 Ultra, default textures, updated LWJGL to current version, no other modsPosted in: Minecraft Mods
When I set Chunk Loading to Multi Core, I discovered that Ghasts are invisible. I can see their fireballs appear from what looks like empty space. Setting it to smooth or default they're visible.
Latest java 7 updated today,
GTX 295 GPU, Threaded Optimization / OpenGL Threading disabled globally.
Oct 19, 2012I was considering doing this because while it looks fairly easy there's the design challenge of building the castle. However I decided against it when I saw this in the requirements.Posted in: Survival Mode
Every mineshaft must be at least 3 blocks high by 3 blocks wide
That is a wasteful, not to mention excessively slow, way to mine, therefore I cannot meet the requirements because I'll never mine that way.
Oct 19, 2012Y'know, recently I thinking about how much easier it is these days to find resources so I set out in a new world in the then current snapshot to find out how long it would take to go from nothing to diamond everything and have at least one of everything that can be made with diamond.. I worked on it over the course of six sessions on my livestream http://www.twitch.tv/tinfoilchef, the total time was about 13hours 30 minutes of gameplay.Posted in: Survival Mode
Diamonds are easy, just branch mine at y=6 (eyes pos)

May 31, 2012Jeb's comment about installing snapshots really ought to have included advice to make a backup of your .minecraft directory *before* using a snapshot to prevent the loss of existing worlds to some bug or other.Posted in: News
as for enchanting, I still think that the randomness needs to be removed and let players select the enchants they want as long as they have enough xp to pay for 'em.
May 25, 2012Sandstone stairs? About freaking time!Posted in: News
Ender chests are a cool idea but they've been nerfed too much. The color coding feature needs to be part of it.
The new gravel look is an improvement. I never cared for pink gravel all that much.
It is STILL impossible to pause in single player.
and can we please have the option to remap "sprint" to a single key instead of double-tap forward? Arthritic fingers can't double-tap fast enough

What you fail to understand is, with your ports open, ANYONE can access your network. WIth EASE. You can't just go, OH stay open just for minecraft.. when it is open.. it is open to anyone and everyone. Anyone can get your network and use it as a mirror for whatever, among many other things. Using open ports, or port forwards, is dangerous. Simply put.
If' you've a decent software firewall it's not dangerous at all. One of the comps on my LAN has several ports forwarded to it. Each one is for a specific server (mail server, web server, and a few others). I have rules set up in the firewall that for each port, ONLY the server associated with it is allowed to connect to the outside world. ALL other programs are blocked by default.
Check the documentation in your software firewall for details how to do this.
Don't have a software firewall (as in relying only on the built in firewall on your router)... for shame
May 3, 2012As long as offline play is still possible I don't care about the server 'feature' in SSP. However I've seen that hitting escape no longer pauses the single player game. THAT is unacceptable! There NEEDS to be a "Pause" function of some kind in SSP.Posted in: News

Hi, the minecraft sounds you hear are in the resources folder and when you logged in connecting to the minecraft servers it did a little green bar or something barley noticeable and may have changed the resources folder, or DID.
But anywho i wouldn't doubt there will be someone with the old sounds posting that soon, or you can try and Google the sounds and see what you can find.
Yeah? izzat so? somebody's gonna make a mod for 1.3_01? yeah. right. I'll believe that one when I see it.
Besides, I DO NOT WANT a mod. I just want the original sound files back.
Minecraft *SHOULD* have asked permission before downloading and installing them! Especially on ANY version prior to the one that the sounds are supposed to apply to!!
Nov 14, 2011I started with Minecraft back in 1.3_01 and since then I've kept a backup copy of every new version. I still use some of those old versions for various reasons.Posted in: News
I don't even HAVE RC2 yet and those new sounds have infected all of those old versions!
I was NOT asked for permission to change or download any files, they were simply downloaded quietly without so much as an "oh, by the way, we're changing your minecraft sounds."
When I play the older versions I want them to SOUND like the older versions. It's actually important for the correct feel for certain video series I'm working on.
Up until now Minecraft has always been polite and asked permission to update anything. WHY this sudden change?!?
More importantly, HOW do I get the original sounds back in those older versions WITHOUT hunting for and installing a mod?!??? Nothing against mods but I prefer no-mod vanilla. Besides which, I doubt seriously anybody's gonna go making new mods for all versions from 1.3_01 (and probably earlier for many people) to 1.8.1 to 1.9pr5
Aug 26, 2011I tried to watch that livestream. I say "tried" because A, the person holding the camera couldn't manage to hold it still enough for ANY kind of decent image.. everything was all shaking and blurry. Have they never heard of a tripod?!? B, the sound quality was so bad that I could not understand more than one word in ten. I've heard better sound quality from a "tin can telephone" I made as a kid 45 years ago.Posted in: News

For those of you who don't like the idea of leveling or having to eat, there will be a creative mode for those who just want to build stuff.
No thanks. I'd prefer that there simply be options to turn those "features" off if we don't want to deal with them.

So many complainers about perma death. I take it none of you have ever played a rogue-like. I personally look forward to the entirety to the update and will embrace all challenges.
I spent plenty of time playing Rogue 20 some years ago. I got tired of it and quit. I have zero interest in seeing that style of gaming come to Minecraft.

Yep, every single thing in your post, is a terrible idea. However, we know nothing about how the appropriate systems actually work.
More to the point, nobody but Notch & his dev team knows ANYTHING about what is *really* going to be in this update. All we've got is dozens upon dozen's of posts with people giving their opinion / guess about what it is based on a pcgamer article that has almost NO actual content. Yeah it's got a few hints but that's it. What's really needed is for Notch & company to stop drip feeding hints and innuendo about what's going to be in the update and spell it out EXACTLY what will and will not be in it once and for all.
Maybe THEN the shitstorm will finally die down. Or get worse, depending on what those details are. In either case dribbling little clues about it is doing nothing but causing an uproar and a flood of rumors and assumptions that have absolutely ZERO basis in fact.

1.8 is NOT making minecraft an rpg. rpg stands for role-playing game, ie it tells a story that you take part in. Just because there's leveling doesn't mean its an rpg. It still a sandbox game, you can still do whatever you want, there's just the added bonus of levels.
I assure you, I do not consider levels to be a "bonus". It's a royal pain in the ****.

**** all of you. If you don't like it play on the ****ing CREATIVE Mode that's coming with the update. You don't have to play the Adventure Gamemode.
No thanks. I'll take the current SSP mode with NPC villages Etc *WITHOUT* the leveling, exp, and so-called "permadeath". I farking *H*A*T*E* RPG's. One of the things I like about Minecraft is that IT'S NOT AN RPG!

Well! Too many post here. I add one for the luck:
I don't think we will be lvl 1, lvl 2, lvl 3, etc... I think the experience bar will fill when play, break block, craft objects, kill mob, harvest, etc... Probably You will get some little "upgrade" when you reach the full bar : maybe faster block breaker, more damage wih weapons, etc... And when you die....You have to restart to fill the XP-Bar. Perfect circle that fits on the mincraft style. The challenge will be to keep the bar full as long as possible. Maybe en achievement like "10 days without dying".
I once played on a SMP server that had a levels mod on it that was sort of like that and I have to say... I hated it and never returned.
