andrejolicoeur posted a message on [16x] Jolicraft ~ Trails and Tails (1.20)Posted in: Resource Packs1.20 - Trails & TalesDid you know that the greatest tales of all time also feature the greatest tails of all time? It's true! Think about it. Charlotte's Web - Wilbur's tail is the best part of that tale. Lord of the Rings - Remember that part when Legolas swung around on the Oliphaunt's tail like Tarzan? OH! And let's not forget Alice in Wonderland. Remember how Alice had a tail? No? Hmmm. Must have dreamed that.
My name is Jolicoeur, so I called it Jolicraft. It's pronounced "Jolly Craft" by the way. My name means "Happy Heart", so I guess Jolicraft means "Happy Craft". So maybe I should have called it HappyCraft, because I'm generally quite happy. But I'm not always happy. Sometimes I run out of wine. Sometimes there's no hot water for my bath. Sometimes when I'm changing my son's diaper, he pees on me.Minecraft is a game about crafting the world around you. What better way to craft the world than to craft the very stuff the world is made of? I had a great time creating Jolicraft, it's so addictive to create textures and see them live in your own world. I didn't really intend to push the pack as far as I did, but damn this [profanity=""] is addictive. It's as addictive as Minecraft itself, which is saying alot. This is Minecraft people. As with life, don't take it too seriously. A good plentiful helping of Jolicraft will wash the dust away from your dreary world. Why did you make this 16x16? Wouldn't it be awesomer if it was 32x32 or 128x128 or 1080x1080?I love 16p texture packs. It seems the perfect resolution to match the style of Minecraft. The purposefully crude low-res pixel crafting nature of the game was simply made for 16x16 textures, anything more just feels weird - like drinking red wine while eating hotdogs. Which Notch does every morning at the breakfast table. Although I'm sure one day I'll be bored and play around with a 32x32 version, just for the fun of it.Can you please add more sidegrass?Let me explain why this is almost no sidegrass on Jolicraft dirt. I like sidegrass in many texture packs. Sometimes it works and looks great for the type of grass & dirt they've created. But Jolicraft dirt is different. It's firm and scoopable. The grass is a thin layer on top of the dirt, so more sidegrass makes no sense as it either makes the grass layer feel thicker than I want or it makes the thin grass all droopy. Think of my dirt like cake with icing on top, so when you scoop through it the grass doesn't instantly hang down the side, it stays firm. And the grass overhangs just a tiny bit to cast a slight shadow down the side of the dirt. It's that crisp edge that makes Jolicraft dirt different from other dirt. It's not that I'm against sidegrass in general, just sidegrass in Jolicraft.I asked you to change a texture and you didn't. What gives?I'm sorry. You had good intentions in suggesting a change, but I didn't care for it. Don't be angry! I don't care for lots of stuff that other people like. And I care for lots of things that other folk don't like. And I'm neutral to things that many people aren't neutral to. What a world! Does that answer your question?I'm making my own pack or map, and I want to use a texture from your pack. Can I?I get lots of requests from folks asking if they can use specific textures in their packs and maps. I don't mind if you use any of my textures, help yourself and enjoy! But I just ask that if you do use something I've made that you state somewhere in your thread what you used of mine, and include a link to this thread via the Jolicraft logo (http://img607.images.../5724/sig5f.png). And I STRONGLY encourage you to not rely on anything I've made. Making a few textures doesn't take long. It's much more satisfying to create something original than to rely on someone else's creations. Wouldn't you agree? What's wrong with you?Once when I was young I pushed a toothpick into my ear and it went all the way in and didn't come out. I've not been quite right since then. -

2XMM2 posted a message on Nostalgia-CraftPosted in: Resource PacksI once decided to make a texture pack featuring the old textures from before the Halloween update in 2010, and Nostalgia-Craft is the result!
There's two versions of the pack, an Alpha and a Beta version, both aim to capture some of the feel from Minecraft Alpha and Beta.

Various old-styled blocks (the chest is a proper block in the current version)

iChun posted a message on [1.6.X] Portal Gun - Reconstructed [v1] - Rewritten... again.Portal GunPosted in: Minecraft Mods
We have moved info & content offsite!Find everything you need here!Mod support has moved to the IRC Channel, #iChun on espernet.Ask for pig.
Old topic, last updated November 2012.
NOTICE:
1.4.5v1 onwards has been documented. Read this till I can bring myself to editing the topics: http://ichun.us/port...inecraft-1-4-5/
1.4.6 mods work on 1.4.7 and vice versa.
In the first week of January I will begin to make changes to the mod page on my blog, so if you're still using the old version (pre-rewrite) I suggest you go read them up before the information gets updated.
Recommended you use Forge 482 or later, due to an important fix in FML.
==================================================
Top Issues- Crashing with: cpw.mods.fml.common.LoaderException: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: portalgun.common.PortalGun Please check the new installation instructions below, you no longer have to extract the mod. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO EXTRACT THE ZIP FILE.
- See through portals doesn't work right.
- If you are having issues, be sure to read the FAQ before asking something that's been addressed a thousand times.
- We now have a wiki! Feel free to contribute to it here!
- Just to clear things up, I DID NOT use the same method as the CCTV mod to make portals see through. Its a completely different way.
The old portal gun trailer back in Beta 1.3_01. Good times.
A little short I made:
Some other videos:
Here's a really good trailer made by Volxleet
Here's an awesome mod spotlight by Direwolf20, explaining what's new in v2.
Here's the sequel to his spotlight, showcasing the new features added since his last video
Here's a really awesome mod spotlight by PureSalvation17, showing off what's in the mod including turrets in 1.1.0v5!
Another one from Kane_Hart, also explaining what's new.
This here's a nice remake of the Portal 2 ending by gruntpie224
==================================================
Uses Minecraft Forge 6.0.1.339 or later.
Uses block IDs 204, 205 and 206, item IDs 13200+, net IDs 150+ by default. Can be changed in properties file.
Specific parts of the mod can be disabled to free up block/item IDs if required.
The properties file can be found in the /config/ folder.
Thanks to Valve for the original game concept and sounds.
==================================================
Server Information:
- Properties files - Dedicated server properties files come in two places. One in the world save folder, one in the /config/ folder.
- Commands - The mod adds several commands which can be listed down by typing "pg" in the server console of "/pg" as an Op.
- The difference is the one in the /config/ folder are for block/item/net IDs etc while the one in the world save folder is for directly changing (mostly) gameplay mechanics.
- These include changing mod properties in-game, as well as clearing out portals.
Content:
Mod Part 0:
Default Portal Gun
Atlas' Portal Gun
P-Body's Portal Gun
Bacon Gun
- Fire Portals with the left and right mouse buttons.
- Zoom in and out with the middle mouse button.
- Grab blocks or entities with the "G" button.
- Reset portals with the "R" button.
- For the bacon gun, the portal's colour is randomly generated. However, it can be defined in the properties file.
- This is your special set of portals on SMP. Unique per individual.
- When placed, a GUI will pop up asking you to set the colour, and if the portal stays open if redstone power is cut.
- When powered with redstone, it will spawn a portal based on the colour you set.
- Accepts any type of portal gun.
- Automatically fire portals when it receives redstone current.
- Portal Gun can be retrieved by right clicking or walking into them
- Fires only one type of portal.
- Will automatically merge with the single coloured portal gun of the other colour to form a dual portal gun.
- Can also be crafted together.
- Negates all your falling damage when worn!
NEW 1.3.2v1
- You can now enable a fuel option in 1.3.2v1 onwards in the config file.
- The fuel that the portal gun uses is in form of Ender Pearl Dust.
- One ender pearl dust is used every time you fire a portal.
- If you run out of ender pearl dust the portal gun will dim and refuse to fire.
Mod Part 1:
Weighted Storage Cube
Placing it in the world and right clicking it with a rose will transform it into a companion cube!
Whilst in your inventory, the companion cube will help heal you every 5 seconds!
Incinerating the cube (How could you!?) will cause it to leave behind a recorded message.
Smelting the disc will cause the plastic to deteriorate, changing the entire track!
Crafting two of the first discs together will also change the track.
Radio
- Plays the radio loop record repeatedly.
- Can be turned off with right click (configurable)
Weighted Companion Cube Vent
- Placed on ceilings.
- Requires redstone power.
- Cubes deployed cannot be broken.
- Redeploys new cube if redstone is still supplied and cube gets destroyed.
Right clicking the cube with cyan dye will make it bouncy! Get rid of the bounciness by putting it in water.
(Initially a request by TheFrogMC for the portal 2 gels mod, but I found it too fun to make it exclusive to that mod)
Mod Part 2:
Material Emancipation Grid
- These are placed from wall to wall, and has a maximum range of 15 blocks.
- Pouring fluid through it will disable it.
- These grids have several modes, which are configurable in the properties file.
- These grids are also configurable to have to be redstone powered.
Mod Part 3:
Sentry Turrets
(Model made in Techne)- Shoots anything, configurable in properties file.
- Has range of 20 blocks, also configurable.
- Fires 20 bullets a second.
- Will die if pushed over.
When sentry turrets get smelted, their sleek body polish melts off and their circuits gets messed up!
Mod Part 4:
Aerial Faith Plates
- Can be placed on floors, walls and ceilings.
- Wall plates can be oriented to look upwards or downwards.
- Right click to adjust the power.
- Can be set to be redstone powered to work.
- Intelligently indicates if it is indirectly being powered by redstone
- Warning: Will not increase intelligence if ingested.
Mod Part 5:
High Energy Pellet Launcher
- Launches a High Energy Pellet when powered by redstone.
- High Energy Pellets disintegrates living things on contact (Configurable to knockback)
- High Energy Pellets spontaneously combusts if it bounces too many times, travels too far or lives for too long.
- Catches a High Energy Pellet to provide redstone power.
- Can be sneak right-clicked to release caught High Energy Pellet.
Mod Part 6:
Discouragement Beam Emitter
- Forms a high powered laser when powered with redstone!
- Lasers travel 40 blocks maximum from the last object portal/cube it goes through, to a maximum of 20 objects (This is so to prevent any overloading of the game)
- Can be configured to cause damage to living creatures.
- Due to my limitation in Mathematics, lasers will only go directly vertical, even when going through a wall portal at an angle into a ceiling/floor portal. (Sorry!)
- Receives laser as its input to produce redstone power.
- Detects the presence of a laser going through it to produce redstone power.
- Refracts a Thermal Discouragement Beam to the direction it faces.
- Grabbed with the G (default) button.
- Becomes bouncy if right clicked with cyan dye!
- Check Weighted Cube Vents for info.
- Will temporarily save player status, portals, and portal entities at the moment when the player walks pass it, set in the GUI.
- Restores the above when the player dies and respawns (Note, this will move you away from your bed [if present] after you respawn).
- Also can power redstone 2 blocks below it like pressure plates.
==================================================
Installation:
Client:
1. Go to your minecraft folder. (If you don't know how to, look it up)
2. Place the zip file in the /mods/ folder and run the game.
3. If you want to change a setting (eg: a block id), go to /config/ and open "PortalGun.properties" with your favourite text editor.
Server:
1. Drop the zip in the /mods/ folder of the server root folder.
Note:
- The mod requires Forge 6.3.0.360 or later.
- The mod DOES NOT auto resolve ID issues like some other mods.
- Do check the default properties file, enough comments have been added for your understanding.
- The server only works on VANILLA server at the moment.

Known issues:
- If your screen turns black or freezes when there's a portal around, disable see through portals
as that is causing the issue.
- See through portals are NOT PERFECT. This means there may be conflicts with other GUIs and such.
If the issues caused by it are unbearable, turn it off or set to static image.
- Advanced OpenGL being enabled causes flickering issues with see through portals.
- The sky will flicker while you're in your inventory and looking at a see through portal.

Elusivehawk posted a message on [1.0.0] [WIP] The Nostalgia FactorPosted in: WIP ModsPlease note that I'm still editing this page in order to update now outdated info. Are you an Alphabro who always posts on how you miss the good old days of Alpha, and how the game was fun? Or are you a more recent player who just wanted to see what the game looked like before you even knew of Minecraft? Well, you are not alone. Not even close to alone. There are hundreds of thousands of players who think this way.
This mod has finally reached a Public Alpha stage! Download the latest version here (1.0.0 ONLY), and report some bugs to help us get a release out quicker!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Please take note that this thread was originally created as a mod request)
Main Post
So ever since Alpha 1.2.0 when the terrain generation was altered (and in my opinion, screwed up), I've wanted the classic Alpha terrain with the current version's features. In December '10, I was happy to see MCNostalgia, as it allowed me to play Alpha 1.1.2_01, which had what was my favorite terrain generator. I loved it, but the loss of current features and the heavy presence of bugs kept me from staying there.
My SolutionI am requesting a mod that allows for users to change the Minecraft version that it generates terrain from, and that being the only thing that changes; gameplay, items, blocks, ect will all be as of the client's version.
I am fully aware of the mods out there that do this by changing all worlds made to preHalloween Alpha, but the reason I am calling for this mod is for extreme convenience and flexibility.
I propose that the terrain type would be set upon creation of a new world, as shown here:
These are the versions you can choose from
- Alpha 1.1.2_01 (3rd gen Terrain)
- Beta 1.1_02 (4th gen Terrain w/o new trees)
- Beta 1.7.3 (4th gen Terrain w/ new trees)
- Beta 1.8.1 (5th gen Terrain w/o snow biomes)
- Minecraft 1.0 (5th gen Terrain w/ snow biomes)
Remember, a built in way to customize which seed a world generates from was added in Beta 1.3, so this mod would allow for 1st through 3rd gen terrain to be made from specific seeds; this is something that backdating your client can't do.
"Now wait, why the hell would people want old terrain? Older obviously means worse."The new terrain just sucks. Once you have seen what a biome looks like, you've seen them all. Forests, swamps, deserts, taigas, grasslands, and tundras are flat as hell. Mountains are cool, but they are very difficult on gameplay as it takes 5 minutes to find a single tree. The underwater terrain is just this hodge-podge of dirt and sand, and looks extremely ugly. Swamps' coloring looks cool when you are in it, but the sudden boundaries of dark to light grass looks retarded.
(Those links are giving you a hint; thousands of people are reaching the same conclusions)
Now, 3rd gen terrain was based on 3D Perlin noise and created these very dynamic and visually appealing terrain. A new world felt new, and you really don't know what you are going to get, compared to now, a biome makes it extraordinarily obvious what the terrain is going to look like. 4th gen terrain lessened the extremity of the terrain, but was still random, and biomes were just an add on and did not affect the terrain as much as they do now.
Take a look at this video that has 3rd gen terrain of Alpha 1.1.2_01. 3rd gen worlds will generate cool terrain like this in almost all times you made a new world.
People who complain that new Minecraft sucks and how Alpha was epic are usually only miss the terrain generator; they played the game for a sense of fantasy and light-hearted gameplay, not this new dark and demanding game that has come of. This mod will be able to shut those people up for good, combining the new version with old terrain, and in combination with a texture pack, can make these guys love playing Minecraft again.
I backdated my client for the fun of it to play some mid Alpha, and after only 6 tries for an epic world, this is what I got. This is why I love Alpha.
Make this mod!!!
"I know how to mod, but what's in it for me?"If you make the mod and do a good job with the design and promotion, you could later rewrite it to allow custom imput of terrain. Then other mods will use your mod (Similar to what happened with Risugami's ModLoader) which will really push you high into the modding community.
Also refraining from making this mod because you don't actually have backups of the generation code? Well MCNostalgia will allow you to revert your game to these versions and just go from there.
Still not convinced this is worth your modding time and effort? There is a person out there who is walking to the Far Lands (Kurtjmac), and he is stuck with using 1.7.3 because the Far Lands were removed in 1.8. As time goes on, he will be stuck with using this old version while the Minecraft community passes him by, so by making this mod, you will allow him to generate pre1.8 terrain with the newest gameplay aspects, spicing up the videos for more enjoyment on his part, and others'. So please, someone create this mod, after all, Kurt is doing it for charity (and has already raised $11,000!).
"Ok, I'm up for the job. What exactly should this mod include?"
Necessities
- An entry in the level.dat file for each world that defines which terrain to generate from (of the 5 I have bulleted above.
- New worlds: Chosen via a button in the picture above.during world creation
- Old worlds: If it is the first time an existing world has been used with this mod, prompt which terrain it was generated with
- The exact same terrain
- Players should be able to take a 1.7 world and set to 1.7.3 terrain generator, and upon entering new chunks, there should not be a chunk border, even if the new terrain is in the same style.
- Restore old functionality
- No tall grass until Beta 1.6, so Alpha 1.1.2_01 and Beta 1.1_02 worlds must be able to use hoes on grass for seeds. Optional
- The currently unused World Type button could be used on Alpha 1.1.2_01 maps upon world creation to generate between a regular world and a snow world.
- Add in 1st gen (Classic) and 2nd gen (/indev/) to the version selections. This is optional because these generation code were written for finite maps and may or may not be possible, or time consuming to adapt to the infinite terrain. 2nd gen worlds will allow the World Type button to chose from:
- Island (Survival island type style map, infinite ocean beyond the one island)
- Inland (Just continuous map of inland terrain)
- Flatgrass (This is useful as hell nowadays)
- Floating (Creates a new challenge and is really cool)
- Strongholds should be generated in pre1.8 worlds, in such a way that does not alter

"I'm not a modder, but I really like this idea!"Well this topic has about 50,000 views, which is really amazing, but still there are thousands of people who would love this mod but do not know about it. The use of the signature I made really draws people in, like you, to see this topic.
I put it as my signature for a month and regularly posted on the Survival Forum, and brought in 2,000 views. Two weeks later after I allowed others to use the sig, this topic has reached 7,000 views. After a month, we're up to 27,000. Just imagine if another hundred people used this sig for a month.
