I still fail to see how "Don't do it" is a valid argument though.

...Have you paid any attention, at all, to anything, in your life?

    A) Single-player game. Nobody else there.

:cool.gif: A belief that pillaring cheapens the gameplay.

    C) Don't do it, then the gameplay won't suffer.

    Where's the lack of validity?

    That is arguable.

No it isn't. If you don't like pillaring in single-player, you can avoid pillaring in single-player. Why can't you? Exactly - you can. Again, self-control is the player's problem - and that isn't arguable either.

"Just don't do it" is still not a fix

    For single-player, yes it is.

Removing pillars is a lousy idea even if it could be done in a non-devastating way. Too many use it for things that the OP completely ignored in his cries over cheap mob avoidance.

Answer to my points instead of just saying "yes it is" please.
I agree that there are many things he ignored, and if you hate the idea you should point them out to him.

What points? That it's not fun if you have to control yourself? Big deal. It's still a fix. Self-control is the player's problem.

I know it was already suggested on an another thread, but i think you could make throwable knives like that:

    [] [] []
    [] :Flint: [] = 5 knives
    :|: [] []

You can stack only 10, and you can throw it in a range of shooting arrows.

    What ya think guys? :smile.gif:
Sorry for my bad English, i hope you understood what i tried to suggest xD

Why? We have bow & arrows...

Here's a sport. Take a wooden pressure plate. Wire it to a redstone torch so it will light up when activated. Create a 3x3 "hoop" above/around the pressure plate. Saddle up a bunch of pigs. Have players attempt to toss pieces of leather into the hoop while riding the pigs. Add to their score each time a piece of leather lands on the pressure plate and activates the torch.

    ...That's a good idea. :iapprove:

oh and i guess it would be more of a smp thing...i mean single player has the neather ...why not let smp have some thing they cant have

Because that's retarded. SMP doesn't get the Nether because it can't work properly there yet. It wasn't a game design choice.

Plus, SMP already has something all its own: Other people.

As for sports: Notice the only sports in Minecraft are invented entirely by the players.

here we are having a nice convo and a freaking potato has to act like a prune...

    You're an apple.

And it's still a nice conversation. :iapprove:

honestly, I think mob spawners should be removed. Mob farming is retarded, and fine, you can do it, great. I just wish monsters were there because they were there, not because they come out of a box.

NOTHING to do with coding, just think of how the game would be played without the feature -_____-
which you have failed to do

LOL... you mean I've been ignoring the way I've been playing the game?

You really need to think about what you write.

The way EVERYONE ELSE plays the game. Selfish git. Removing things doesn't just affect you and your game, did you know?

I have made suggestions as have others.

And yet, the original post that provides everyone with their impression of the thread, remained unedited and continuing to suggest a terrible idea. That's why the "nay-sayers" stick around.

Maybe you ought to ditch this thread - which, face it, was based on a terribly stupid idea - and make a fresh one focused on improving AI or something.

Though, if survival mode is the issue, just don't pillar. Simple. What's stopping you from not pillaring?

Its not fun if they are allowed to use overpowered things and you are not.

You are allowed though. Everyone is. And SMP issues alone is a shitty justification. Go on and remove the Nether, since they can't use that.

Find a server or players that will adhere to a no-pillaring law. Simple fix instead of this garbage demanding the absolute termination of a valuable practice that can't even be effectively removed without raping core gameplay.

Plus, his whole argument is that it's cheap mob avoidance. That's a single-player issue, in which case I refer both of you to my previous solution which, despite cries that it's ignorant, is the perfect fix for single-player games. And if he just can't avoid using it there, the solution is self-control.

    So...

Single-player: Don't like it, don't use it. Perfectly valid fix.

Multi-player: Find a server or players that will adhere to a no-pillar law, or else create a server yourself. Again, perfectly valid fix.

By self control you mean purposefully putting yourself in danger, many would argue that is the games job and is why many chose to play games.

I do not understand how you have linked something that cannot be used in multiplayer to something that you would have a disadvantage because of people using it in multiplayer if you do not use, two totally different things.

If you think that it couldn't be fixed without destroying some gameplay I agree with you and that is a good argument, as I have stated I think the idea has a lot of problems, but I just hate the argument "Don't like it don't use it" as it works in almost no situation yet people seem to think its the answer to everything.

As I have yet again stated before even when you do have self control its no fun to have to not try on purpose.

By self-control, I mean if you don't like it cheapening your survival, don't give in to the wussy voice in the back of your head.

I haven't linked anything. I've provided a fix for single-player pillaring (just don't do it) and multi-player pillaring (join a like-minded server, find like-minded players, or create your own server).

You can hate the argument all you like but it's still a perfect fix for his apparent problems as far as single-player goes. Oddly, he never accounted for all the other cheap tactics. Hell, all it takes is a minimalist dirt hut.

If you have to force yourself to not do something that you're against, that's a personal issue. Not a game issue so don't try to make it one - which this guy did.

Ways to remove pillaring (which, contrary to this guy's thinking, is NOT a feature but a mere consequence of the core gameplay):

    - Remove block-placing. (Breaks the gameplay)

    - Severely drop the height limit. (Limits the gameplay to an unacceptable degree)

Ways to remove cheap survival tactics AND improve gameplay instead of destroying it:

    - Block-breaking mobs

    - Smarter hostile AI
