Guess what! Steel wool is rods of ironsteel shavings and used for cleaning sinks.

    Corrected.

And in light of what steel wool is, the obtaining of it should likely be a bit more complex anyway. Not that it should be obtainable or anything...

    Oh, for the love of...

    A) We have TOO MANY fuel opportunities already.

:cool.gif: JUST USE THE TOOLS! They're tools!

    C) You will never have little or no coal since you can make coal from wood now.

What if you have one piece of wood only and no other effective fuel source?

Get more wood. Trees are abundant. :sleep.gif:

In a desert? Explore to find trees.

It's unrealistic, but how do you get three rather larger stone blocks to a pickaxe? It's just about as unrealistic.

Really you're probably overreacting, messing up on your creation and not being able to undo it doesn't make it material management, it doesn't add a "Survival" effect and it doesn't make the game a little bit harder. Some people are a little clumsy.

This is a good idea, but it shouldn't be a whole new block, as said before, just have it in the crafting table.

    A) Chipping and shaping the stone into a pickaxe head.

:cool.gif: That does make it material management. And that makes it survival. And that makes it harder, since you have to plan out what supplies you need as opposed to having a magical rewind to rely on for screw-ups.

Whatever, I've said my part, I'm gone. Enjoy your cheap rewind button...

This would be pretty cool since if you can build it.. you should be able to dismantle it.

By what process do you dismantle a stone pickaxe into sticks and three perfect stone blocks considerably larger than the amount of stone in the axe?

Still just sounds like a cheap rewind button for people that don't manage their materials well...

I said cobble(i.e. cobblestone), and how do I get more stone out of it if I get 3 cobble and 2 sticks when
I made the item with 3 cobble and 2 sticks?

If you mean that the item isn't in full durability, then read the whole topic.

And it isn't exactly cheap since you have to mine gold which require a deep cave with an entrance to the surface, or mine and an iron pickaxe, both of which require time and energy to find/do.

If you manage materials well, then you don't need it, which is kind of like having band-aids even though you don't need them at that moment.

Look at three stone blocks. Now look at the head of a pickaxe. Obvious difference in the amount of stone, isn't there? It's pretty clear crafting the pickaxe involves unseen chipping and shaping the stone, thus leaving less that could be potentially recovered. But that's all just logic stuff.

It is exactly cheap. Once you get gold, just throw thought out the window and craft everything willy-nilly. If you need materials, you should have to mine or otherwise gather them - you know, that being a part of the gameplay and all. Again, this is just a cheap rewind button.

And the band-aid analogy was just...Incredibly, incredibly lousy.

My piece is said. I'm gone.

...THAT was Indev? Oh boy...So glad I missed out.

Pending some tweaks to bring it up-to-date, I wouldn't mind more control over world generation.

That's why you use them up, then just don't make any more if you prefer stone. They're tools. Use them as tools. There isn't a problem at all, except with players not realizing they can use tools as tools.

at the same time, it would be a quick add and would be useful.
    Not that useful, but useful.

Useful how? As fuel? There are already a bunch of options for fuel - probably too many. Mining for coal is essentially useless now already.

It's unnecessary, and a waste of time when you can just use them up, like tools are meant to be used.

So, an unnecessary tool for undoing poor crafting decisions? No. Just put a little thought into the initial crafting.

Much like portable chests and backpacks, this idea removes an important survival element called inventory management. In this case, more material and supplies management.

    So instead of:

    Grass block with snow
    Dirt

    It'd be:

    Snow block
    Dirt

    ?

    It would go:

    Snow block with snow
    dirt

Ah. Works for me. I hate accidentally breaking through the tissue-thin snow and being left with green patchwork snowfields.
