The "reverse" doesn't happen as you may think.
What is happening is your nether portal is open to things from the overworld, and they're wandering through your portal. A creeper happened to wander into it and be teleported to the Nether. Protect the overworld portal and keep monsters from wandering into it.

Oh... i hadn't thought about that really. My portal IS out in the open, and has been a few nights since it went up. Now that i know that this is what happens it seems more fair; it was a mistake i made in ignorance, and can avoid in the future. Things like this don't bother me. Things that are periodical "SURPRISE! you are dead!" scenarios that you can do nothing about (like the old "fall through the floor and suffocate to death" bugs that used to happen) bother the hell out of me though xD

FC, how do you feel about creepers spawning in the nether from portals. To me it feels like a "By the way, screw you..." kind of scenario. I went into the nether for my second time to build up the area around the portal to be safer, but the instant i portalled through, i was blasted from my precarious portal location into a lava lake... now i know the nether is supposed to be risky and dangerous to venture into, but to me there seems to be no way to properly react to that in some circumstances. I thought i saw something about pigmen not spawning from portals anymore, and it seemed odd to me that the reverse still occured.

Don't worry, the credits are long gone. Flowerchild took care of them in version 3.90 of BTW.

I'm glad i won't be seeing them soon then :D

Hey FC, i will be honest in saying i have never made it to end tech on your mod yet, but if the credits pop up still, you should remove them ithink. because BTW is far from over with the End, the credits are annoying and pointless anyways, and they ruin the immersion of the game by reminding the player against their will once again that they are playing a game.

I have come to love my shears, and i think they might need a nerf in the department of getting damaged more/at-all when you use them on cobwebs. I use them to herd cows without wheat by getting grass, they break leaves quickly for panicked escapes. They also provide a great way to (if somehow you get shears and dont have armor yet) provide a great way to easily get the armor. you only need half the amount of leather to make a full set, and probably will have some left over.
One thing i think may be a problem, is they kind of negate the feature of spiders spitting webs at you, i can clear the webs and get clear of the spider before he can reach me if he happens to tag me with it. It might not be that important to warrant a nerf, but i would be dead many times over by now if not for my beloved shears, and they have cut through over (i have counted my cobwebs) 305 uses without degrading the tool in any way, shape, or form...
They also are a complete anti-creeper tool. They allow you to defuse a creeper much quicker than you could ever deal with a creeper with anything short of steel or enchanted weapons. I have been saved dozens of times where i should have died when i wasnt paying attention, where i heard the hiss, spun around whipping out my shears, and snipped him last second. If i had tried to run, swing a sword, or do ANYTHING else, i would have died. It has made creepers much less scary, and fighting them completely risk free, something that a sword simply cannot do.
I know this is probably something that you arent particularly concerned about, FC, but it was something that struck me as odd, because i had never really used shears in vanilla except to occasionally get vines/wool/whatever. And even if its decided that it is a non-issue i felt like sharing my discovery of this magnificent mega-tool's unbelievable utility. :)

So, Flowerchild, ive been taking a break from BTW for a few months now, and decided after seeing some of the changes that i wanted to give it another go. Seems pretty legit, and a lot of the problems that I had with it before arent troubling me anymore (even though i dont think they were changed) The design of the mod helps focus the mindset of the player into a way to work around problems instead of charging through in a predefined way. The changing to morning when the player dies is my favorite new addition, as well as hardcore stratification. Keep up the good work, and remember that just because some people may give negative feedback, it doesn't necessarily mean that you have failed as a designer. I see you sometimes get frustrated with negative feedback, but keep in mind that even if you make it as perfect as possible, it wont be for everybody, and you still have a huge following of loyal fans

And by the way..... I went into a jungle and found your new spider friends.... you are an evil, evil man... >:3

Hey FC, how dows this sound?
In order to make exploration less daunting and more rewarding moving a boat with a sail equipped greatly increases speed, but reduces handling. Helpful for long distance ocean crossings along fairly open waters, very difficult to avoid crashing using this method in rivers and bays. Boats also require a slimeball in the center square of crafting as a sealant so the boat doesn't leak, making boats a bit more valuable, and crashing a bit more consequential.

It's already in the mod, and the grass bit was far from trivial to implement.
yeah, i figured that out, sorry. i also kinda assumed that grass would be difficult because of the spreading mechanic, i wasnt implying it was trivially easy, i meant that what i was asking for it for was trivial. Y'know... "i gotta make things pretty".

Stop sprinting and jumping everywhere and it will go down slower. Hunger depletion is based on activity.

Build stairs into your mines instead of jumping up from bedrock. Consider how heavy your armor is and the impact it has on hunger gain. Work on acquiring higher level foods which will last you longer.

So yes, it does make gameplay more interesting in requiring the player to think more about what they're doing, build to facilitate low energy consumption, and pursue various in-game goals in order to make surviving easier.

    As for realism: whatever.
Along this line of thought, could there be dirt or grass "slabs" so that i could keep the aesthetic of a grassy hill, but without having to jump up all the way? kinda trivial, but why not?

No, probably not. I'd say I'm pretty much done with major additions of that kind.
    *snip*

Thanks for responding. I dont really think it needs these things, but i would have liked them if they became a thing.
Also, since i posted a few minutes ago, i had an idea. In my base i have a bed in my "bedroom" both of which i have purely for the aesthetic of them. I kinda feel a little like there should be some point to beds, but i dont think i should have the power to magically turn it to daytime and avoid the dangers of night. What if the bed became some sort of place to retreat to after being severely wounded after winning or running from a fight, but not like a magic healing altar thing (more of a cot to throw yourself on until you can properly stand again). Since people on the verge of death dont just get better by having a full belly of food being able to walk away from a serious injury doesnt make a lot of sense, but it would be too harsh to prevent healing from injured states because if you were crippled and couldnt heal that would be a death sentence and would be drawn out and anti-fun. What if hardcore hunger were tweaked to prevent a player from being able to heal back to full from an extremely injured state. Instead they would have to heal up to "Hurt" to hobble back home and recover for a few seconds (not affecting the day/night cycle). This would encourage players to be vigilant and pay close attention to their surroundings, instead of being able to simply react to threats after they have become a problem. You could blend it into hardcore hunger even further by making it add a noteable amount of fat to use.
I am not going to pretend i dont see any of the problems with this idea, cheif among them that you dont like beds as a feature. But apart from that there are issues like players could simply carry a bed around in their pockets which doesnt make a lot of sense. another being that it would discourage exploration because it would make you further from your bed than you would feel comfortable, though It might just encourage people to create more outposts and expedition sites, maybe even alternate bases in order to have safe places to rest (not sleep). It would make the mod dramatically more difficult earlier by making it harder to recover while being assaulted by zombies or some such, and this time frame is already VERY difficult for people new to the mod, so that might turn some people off the mod. (but who cares, right?) There are certain to be both benefits and drawbacks that i havent thought of yet...
Don't mistake this for a lecture. I know good and well that you know more about these kinds of things than i do, hell some of your solutions to things are just brilliant. I just wanted to throw you something i thought of that might be something you could consider and find a way to make work, or just move on and work on other things instead. Just spitballin' some of the ADHD thoughts runnin' through my head xD Dont EVER change your fundamental opinions on the mod on account of someone like me, and keep up the good work broski!

EDIT: Crap!!! how do i hide my quotes xD. im not used to the forums yet...

Im curious FC. Aside from balance change to things already in effect, Is the mod as it stands close to what you would consider final, or is there a lot of really cool features heading our way. The really big and complex mechanisms like stoked hibachi systems, the seamless feel of the kiln being a structure that then provides function, and the massive windmills and watermills that force you to plan building layouts around, are all features that i truly enjoy and are the parts i enjoy best. Being able to get these things going with the obstacles the hardcore modes put in front of me make it all the more sweet when i am finished. Could we be looking forward to more features like these in the future? Maybe even things that get into strange ender magics? (i dont want like ridiculous magic crap, i mean like things that are kinda subtle and fitting, like beacons).
I have figured out what you have been hinting at with the nether and i no longer am concerned about abandoned villages. I found another potato in my zombie dungeon trap. And as a concern to the balance of the game, after spreading a bunch of torches over a wide area and chopping down some trees around my base, i feel almost too safe. The well lit style of branch mining that i use doesnt even give me the risk that caving presents, and is too efficient of an alternative to caving that i really dont think it is profitable to go into dark caves, since i get far more cobble using my method. I havent been in mortal danger since i transitioned into starting pottery and getting my steel things. Its started to feel kinda like playing on peaceful, except i have to eat a bunch of food. Im not sure what would fix this problem, or even if it should be fixed at all, but im interested to see hear what you think about it. Do you like being able to create a safe haven and being able to enjoy it after all the work that goes into it? Or do you think maybe there should be a way to make later game more challenging in some way?

Hey, i noticed that you tried to remove the feature where zombies drop carrots and potatoes, but i had a zombie drop a potato earlier from my zombie spawner mob trap. Not sure what caused it to happen, and havent been able to replicate it but i now have potatoes, just thought id let you know. Hopefullly this is helpful for you to try to fix it. I know its not much to go on :\

Part of the point of those changes is to avoid the imbalance created by spawning right next to a village man. I'm certainly not going to change it further to facilitate that.

You don't *need* wheat in any way to progress within the mod. There are plenty of cows within the environment to hunt to satisfy the leather required to move up through it.

Wheat is nice, yes, as it gives the player access to higher value food to act as a tangible reward for exploring and finding a village, but it is in no way required. I've made many changes to ensure that you can survive and progress in tech very well without it.

It's your own perception of wheat as some kind of critical resource that's the problem here, not the villages.
Well, i see your point and, although i dont necessarily agree, i respect your opinion as the developer of the mod. Perhaps check to make sure there isnt an occasional glitch where populated villages dont spawn at all. My concerns were based off of me not finding villages at VERY EXTREME distances. (i mean distances i suspect to be over 4000 blocks from spawn, although without coordinates its hard to be sure) Im not trying to be a whiner or to nail you to the cross for a design decision. Im just trying to provide feedback on the experience i have had with the mod that i am otherwise enjoying quite a bit and am considering making a server for.

    Thanks for playing.

Then you obviously didn't fly far enough away.
you obviously havent done a lot of travelling in minecraft. an hour of travel on foot can get you up to 5000 blocks from spawn or more, flying around triples that. It is just that i think that the distance that populated villages spawn needs to be adjusted or there is currently a glitch that prevents them from spawning at all. It wouldnt be the end of the world to me if it never gets adjusted, but it feels like although it isnt really a hindrance on survival, it really is a significant barrier on progression. cant breed cows without wheat, cant grow wheat without villages. I have FOUND small amounts of wheat in dungeons, but not enough to really start breeding cows. if you cant breed cows it becomes very difficult to progress along the tech trees, and while i appreciate the hardcore feel to the mod in general, i would like a bit of a different approach to village generation. Perhaps make populated villages simply very rare instead of based off of the distance from spawn, that way you could have a good world generation and find a village right off the bat, but most of the ones you find will be abandoned. Im not going to pretend to know about how village generation works though, im just stating a concern of mine
