Ive never understood the exact purpose of player run economies in minecraft servers....or at least currency specifically coins in mods like this. It has no value to me the player unless its forced upon me which isn't fun at all. you now unless you melt them down and reuse them...so why dont you just use a barter system. IF there was a good reason to have them then yes i'd use them, i like classical era economics(GASP NERD ALERT) but unless they tie into a trading system or some dork demands all transaction on a server to be done in pointless coins there is no use for them....to the not inventive anyway i use coins to shower my cows in brass and gold pointlessness to confuse my girlfriend when she watches me play.

Welp 1.3 will probably be out next week, so I can continue work on Metallurgy.

So to reiterate:
-Mining Levels are out, instead they'll be relative to the current Minecraft levels (Wood/Stone/Iron/Diamond) and some will require Diamond to mine.
-Ore Chunks are being replaced with blocks, you'll still make dust at a workbench using the block instead
-Metadata is in!
-Modularity is back! You'll be able to pick which metals you want and can enable/disable specific ones!
-One launching class per metal set, no more spamming of your console with one for each metal!

Mobs don't work well in Multiplayer and are hard to properly recode to do such. With 1.3 that might change, I always wanted to make pet metal golems the player crafts.

I have artwork for shields for almost every metal type, for the day I finally do a shield addon for one of the shield mods.

Or you know, you could be patient. If you've never made a mod you can't understand the variety of aspects that go into simply updating for the next version when you rely on 3+ separate APIs.
