posted a message on When might you use cheats in survival mode?

I find I don't like Creative mode very much. I DO, however, love messing around in Survival, but on "Peaceful" difficulty. I delve into "Easy" or "Normal" difficulty now and then in various worlds. And I keep trying to enjoy battles and being scared by creepers or skellies, I really do. However, mostly, like you, sdreamer2000, I am playing MC to relax and enjoy myself. (I DID start playing because my young grandson did, but I think, so far, he has not left Creative mode. We'll see at Thanksgiving, where he's at, I guess)

I like to try out different mods and resource packs. I enjoy the changes in the look of things and the scenery. It is a game, and I consider it a form of entertainment. I am not making any judgment calls about anyone else's preferences for how they play! I think it's terrific that a game accommodates a wide range of notions of what a game is!

LOL at your last sentence, Sharpe103.

I am reticent, by nature, but I've been posting a fair bit. Thanks for tolerating me on this thread -- didn't, of course, MEAN to be intrusive. And thanks too, for your advice on progressing with Minecraft. I will take that all to heart! I try hard to get up and get AWAY from my desktop, nowadays, because I have spent a lifetime doing computer "stuff" (working in a tech department)! So, I actively try NOT to spend hours on Minecraft at a time (but, I find that hard). I definitely will be making slow, deliberate progress. I'm in awe of a lot of the accounts that I see here, even lately. So, I suppose back in the heyday, I might very likely have completely felt overwhelmed. But, I'm sorry for learning of your perspective about what once was.

As to Twitch - I don't 'get' it very well. I visited Valve/Steam, a bit, but, I am not very interested in live gaming -- shy as I am I don't play multiplayer, let alone, sit and play alongside a bunch of other people!! So Twitch's apparent emphasis in casting your gameplay, meh! I am just old-fashioned. :-)

posted a message on Miner seeking advice on constructing roofs

Thank you for the empathy (and jokes too!!) and for the tips, too. Funny I have NO problem placing slabs, and yet for some reason it hasn't translated to my stair placing. I'm sure it's true that it's partly because I just don't practice placing many stairs. I can work on that and I am sure it will help.

/Note that the "reply" button in this forum doesn't work to improve anyone's understanding that it is, in fact, a reply. You replied to one of my comments with this, then to someone else's, but we have no real indication which post. The forum software here leaves a lot to be desired, but the reply button is particularly asinine. I suggest quoting. :-) /

I was afraid that had happened - as soon as I posted, and returned to the forum, I noticed that my replies didn't appear in any way associated with the posts I intended to reply to!! Gah!

So, from now on, I'll quote! Annotated - from now on I will use copy-and-paste, and quote messages!

Thanks for the tip and the inspirational world sharing! And so sorry to hear your images were hacked!!

Huh. Never made one (I'm big on mining, not so much on farming overall), now I need to go watch some YouTube!

posted a message on Any "older" folks play Minecraft?

Oh, this is a thread that makes me feel so comfortable and "at-home!" I retired early, because my government agency offered an attractive early-out package. I occasionally read that early retirement is not good for one's health, but I think that for me, the lessened job stress made a big positive difference. I have stayed active in civic life and volunteering, though, maybe that accounts for feeling good. I am not a gym member, but I force my husband to go walk with me some, most days. And I use YouTube videos like FitnessBlender and Yoga With Adriene a LOT for getting some physical movement into the day at home. (And when we get these hot, humid periods, there's a lot to be said for being able to work out without getting in and out of a hot car.)

I haven't looked into anything multiplayer, but I have 2 tween grandsons who play MC. I don't think I really want to join a server with them, though - boys that age seem (to me) to enjoy shooter games and I am miserable at that!

Anyone here use a standing desk? How do you make sure not to "veg out" behind a desk, playing games, now that you aren't "chained to a desk?" I struggle with that, especially because my elderly cat loves to climb on my lap and sleep (for hours!!).

I see lots of people with earbuds in at the grocery store - we didn't have that kind of option. It really does help avoid the distractions of some of the in-store marketing. (Though a lot of people are probably just on their mobile phones, chatting with family).

posted a message on Beginner Guide and FAQ

This is great! Anyone have recommendations on a basic guide to choosing launchers for MineCraft and assembling modpacks or using mods and resource packs? I know that's not "beginner," but it seems to me that lots of beginners, once past the first night and a bit, would like to understand how MagicLauncher is different from the Minecraft native launcher, and how things like LiteLoader or Twitch compare to them!

Okay, I took my first-ever screen shots (er, that I MEANT to take -- when I began playing I was mistakenly taking them a LOT, aiming for F3 but hitting F2). Now, let's see whether I can include one here. I'm pretty embarrassed to share this, please be gentle folks. I'm just responding to AstralMagic's request to see.

See the image in the attachment, for one view. I just stacked cobble up going across the land. Then I've been working on getting torches all over the place. As you see, I haven't done any terraforming at all, but I have a dwelling in a cave along one side of the walled compound, and I have a chicken ranch on the far side, away from the sugarcane plot. I've got river access alongside the sugarcane plot too .... if there were trading and shipping in the game, I'd be in good shape. Anyway, it's a fairly nice location, I think.

posted a message on I found a new fun thing to do at night! lol

That's great fun, I would looove to sit and watch skellies get chased around! I hate 'em, too.

I have a bunch o horses that I am enjoying keeping an eye on. I haven't had much luck, taming any, but we keep on trying. And I seem to be a whiz at growing reeds (sugar cane) although I can't seem to get much of any other crop going.

posted a message on Do you think the woodland mansion is worth it?

Beginner's luck, I ran into one while exploring and working to get back to my base from where I had been lost (I seem to have got turned around visiting a village, and had not made a note of the coordinates of my base). I think it was interesting to explore, but I was there in Peaceful mode, so didn't have to do battle. Will I go back? Yeah, very likely, but not for a while yet. And I don't think I'm very interested in the Totem of Undying, it's not tied to how I have been playing the game.
