    Catwalks 2

This mod adds Catwalks, Caged Ladders, Scaffolding, and Support Columns, each of which has both practical and aesthetic uses. Except for the Support Columns, they just look cool.

The 1.8.9+ version is no longer maintained and is incompatible with newer versions of LibrarianLib, which is used by several other relatively popular mods. Catwalks 2 seems pretty stable however, and though I probably won't do much CW2 maintenance other than critical issues, it hasn't had a bug report in quite some time.

    Blocks:

Any of the blocks in this mod can be destroyed more quickly with a Blowtorch, or can be broken instantly and deposited directly into your inventory by shift+left-clicking with a Blowtorch.

    Catwalk:

    • The sides of Catwalks can be enabled/disabled by right-clicking with a Blowtorch.
    • When any side of the Catwalk is disabled, the hitbox becomes 1/4 block tall and completely invisible unless you are holding a Blowtorch.
    • Right-clicking on the inside of the Catwalk will actually click on the outside, allowing you to place blocks on the outside of the Catwalk.
    • You can't jump over the sides of a Catwalk unless you're sneaking.
    • Catwalks will give you a speed boost while you are inside them, roughly equivalent to a speed 1 potion. (configurable)
    • If they are in a vertical stack, Catwalks can be climbed like ladders.
    • You can cling to a Catwalk that is in a stack by sneaking or holding a Blowtorch. If you are holding a Blowtorch, you can sneak to climb down.

    Caged Ladder:

    • The sides of Caged Ladders can be enabled/disabled by right-clicking with a Blowtorch.
    • When any side of the Caged Ladder is disabled, the hitbox will shrink to 1/4 block wide and be completely invisible unless you are holding a Blowtorch.
    • Right-clicking on the inside of the Caged Ladder will actually click on the outside, allowing you to place blocks on the outside of the Caged Ladder.
    • Caged Ladders allow you to climb at almost 2 times the speed of normal ladders. ( about 5 blocks per second ) (configurable)
    • You cannot climb the outside of a Caged Ladder. (configurable)
    • You can cling to a Caged Ladder by sneaking or holding a Blowtorch. If you are holding a Blowtorch, you can sneak to climb down.

    Support Column:

    • By default, Support Columns are a full block in length along one axis.
    • Support Columns will align with the side of the block they are placed on.
    • Support Columns can be made "non-directional" by right-clicking on them with a Blowtorch. (see image 2 above, center support)
    • Support Columns can be made "directional" again by right-clicking on them with a Blowtorch. This will align them with the side clicked.
    • Support Columns are climbable as ladders, although they are much slower than normal ladders.
    • You can cling to a Support Column by sneaking, holding a Support Column, or holding a Blowtorch. If you're holding a Support Column or Blowtorch, you can sneak to slowly climb down.
    • Support Columns can be extended by shift+right-clicking one with a support column in your hand. This will extend it direction opposite the side clicked.
    • Support Columns can be retracted by shift+right-clicking one with a Blowtorch in your hand. This will retract it from in the direction opposite the side clicked.
    • Support Columns can show two particle effects when extending:
      • - White stars if it encounters another line of Support Columns.
      • - Red stars if it can't extend any further.

    Scaffold

    • Scaffolds will instantly break when hit.
    • Scaffolds can be extended/retracted exactly like Support Columns, and will show the same particle effects.
    • Scaffolds are climbable like ladders and are just as fast as ladders.
    • You can cling to a Scaffold by sneaking, holding a Scaffold, or holding a Blowtorch. If you're holding a Scaffold or Blowtorch, you can sneak to slowly climb down.
    • Scaffolds come in two varieties:
      • Normal Scaffolds: These are just a normal block.
      • Builder's Scaffolds: Right-clicking on these with a block will replace the scaffold with it that block.
    • Right-clicking a Normal Scaffold with a Blowtorch will toggle between the Normal and Builder's Scaffold textures.

    Sturdy Rails:

    • Sturdy Rails act almost exactly like vanilla rails.
    • There are Sturdy versions of all the vanilla rails.
    • Sturdy Rails don't need a block to support them and can't be placed directly above another rail.
    • Sturdy Powered/Activator Rails don't require a redstone signal, instead they are toggled by right-clicking with a Blowtorch.
    • Right-clicking on the top of a Sturdy Rail with a Sturdy Rail in your hand will extend the rail line in the direction you are facing.
    • Sturdy rails will connect to normal rails.

    Items:

    Blowtorch:

    • The Blowtorch is the configuration tool of the catwalks mod, although you should be able to use most wrenches interchangeably.

    Rope Light:

    • Rope Light can be added to a Catwalk or Caged Ladder by right-clicking.
    • Rope Light will cause the block to glow and the texture to change.

    Caution Tape:

    • Caution Tape can be added to a Catwalk or Caged Ladder by right-clicking.
    • Caution Tape will cause the texture of the block to change.

Caution Tape can be removed from a Catwalk or Caged Ladder by shift+right-clicking with an empty hand—first removing the lights, then the tape.

    Recipes:

    TL;DR;

    • Catwalks make you walk faster and can quickly be extended horizontally.
    • Caged Ladders can't be fallen out of and can be climbed at almost 2x the speed of normal ladders.
    • Scaffolding can be climbed like a ladder. They can quickly be placed, destroyed, extended, and retracted. When you use the builder's variety they act like tall grass, where right-clicking them with a block will replace them.
    • Support Columns mostly look cool. They technically are ladders but are so slow they're pretty much useless as ladders.
    • Sturdy Rails are self-supporting versions of normal rails that don't need a redstone signal to be active.

I want to give a massive thank you to winddelay for texturing.

Modpacks: Do what you want with it, but I would love to hear if you included it in your modpack.

Adds catwalks, and in the future other industrial aesthetics

The mod is a work in progress, and more blocks and materials will be added as time progresses.

Note! Due to the complexity of the model system for this mod the models can be slightly laggy when placed, and cause lag when blocks change near them. This isn't too major unless you have a huge number of catwalks in a small area or you are doing a lot of block work in that area. This is no fault of my own, it is the fact that Minecraft is ludicrously inefficient in its rendering code. If you want to hopefully make it better, complain about it here.

    Blocks:

    Catwalks:

    • Each side and the bottom can be independently toggled on and off using the Blowtorch
    • When a side is disabled its visual hitbox is reduced in size, either vertically for the sides, or toward the center for the bottom
    • The sides can be right clicked from the inside to place blocks as if you clicked on the outside

    Items:

    Blowtorch:

The blowtorch is the main manipulation tool of Catwalks.

Modpack policy: Feel free to use it, though I would enjoy it if you contacted me. I like to hear when people are using my mod.

    Ice catwalks.... I like.

Lots of pics (a lot of this is old, and not all will be in the first release):

Yep. I'm working on 1.10.2 as we speak. It's going to be a big update, we'll have 3d models for the blocks, MCMultiPart support, and support for theoretically infinitely many materials.

I won't be releasing until all this is done because if I do new builds can and probably will either corrupt worlds, make worlds crash on load, or cause blocks to be deleted.

Here is the model with and without optifine. In the optifine screenshot the cloth only shows the middle of the cloth texture section

It seems that optifine causes blocks loaded with the forge obj model system to have messed up UVs. Every quad has it's UVs halved around the center of the quad. If the uv was from 0,0 to 1,1 it becomes 0.25,0.25 to 0.75,0.75. I don't know if it literally changes the UVs or just messes up something in the rendering.

Somehow, somewhere, the stairs are making the game crash. I've decided to stop supporting 1.8 and focus on 1.9, so unfortunately you'll have to either remove it or not use the stairs. Unfortunately there isn't any way I know of to hook into the vanilla AI and make them recognize my blocks, so mobs will act funky with them.

I should get around to removing the 1.8 version from CF. It's super buggy and crashy and I'm not supporting it, so I think no mod is better than really buggy without bug fixes.

This is an outdated version. Please go to the new thread. The new mod is more efficient and way cooler.

    Catwalks Mod

This mod adds Catwalks, which make traveling long distances easier, and Caged Ladders, which prevent the player falling.

This is my first finished modding attempt (all the others were too ambitious, so I never ended up finishing them.) I hope you find it useful.

    Blocks:

    Catwalk:

    Caged Ladder:

    Items:

    Blowtorch:

    Steel Grate:

    Rope Light:

    Guide:

    Opening/closing sides

Any side of a Catwalk/Caged Ladder can be opened or closed by shift+right-clicking with a blowtorch.

    Catwalks only:
The sides of Catwalks are always open if there is a non-air block beside it.
You can't jump over the side of a catwalk unless you are pressing shift.

    Extending Catwalks

Catwalks can be extended by right clicking the side of a catwalk with a Catwalk in your hand.

    Extending Caged Ladders

Caged Ladders can be extended by right clicking the top or bottom with a Caged Ladder in your hand.
The floor can be enabled/disabled by shift+right-clicking it with a blowtorch.

    Light rope

Light rope can be installed on both Catwalks and Caged Ladders.
Light rope can be installed by right-clicking.
Light rope can be uninstalled by shift+right-clicking.

Note: The blowtorch can be substituted with any buildcraft-compatable wrench

    Mod pack Policy:
Feel free to use this in your mod pack.

    To do:

    1. Fix ghost items when removing rope light via shift+right-click
    2. Make rope light texture ignore lighting (make it always super bright)
    3. Suggestions...
