qwertylesh posted a message on Terrain generationI really miss the older terrain generation, back before biomes were even introduced, there were far more beaches and plains then there are now and the mountainsides seemed more sensible then what I see generated everywhere now.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
I agree that caverns are way too abundant. Clay went from being ultra rare to being ultra common, why couldn't they just become slightly more common?
and where did our beaches go? I rarely if ever see a sandy beach in 1.9 pre4, some little sandy lakes here and there but stuff all beach side.
I think the generation would be awesome if it was 40 percent what it is now and 60 percent what it was like prior to biomes being introduced, back when it was rare to see lava lakes and when you could actually find nice mountain chasms full of stone and waterfalls.
I noticed the biomes have gotten larger, but I dont think they're large enough yet either. We have oceans and rivers and tonnes of swamp now but mangled mountains, too many little surface crater lakes and no beach.
I saw a Poll in a different thread asking what parts of the terrain generation the community wanted to see improved and to my shock beaches and more original terrain generation was one of the least voted options. :sad.gif:
I dont generally post complaint posts, but do agree with the posters in here regarding the current terrain generation /rant -

Yup. My thoughts exactly. Can't go more than 20 tiles in any direction without finding yet another cave/ravine/shaft to hell.
Also it's hard to even build a modest house that doesn't cross a biome boundary, let alone a town.
That's exactly what I mean. Thanks very much. Glad to see I'm not just going crazy or generating weird seeds. -

DrakBadgerwaffles posted a message on Ender Realm vs The NetherI doubt there will ever be a "good" realm. What really kept the Nether alive while it never updated was the danger factor. People would go there because it was dangerous. Glowstone wasn't neccessary as jack-o-lanterns did the same thing, and netherrack/soulsand was useless unless you wanted blocks fast or a questionable trap block. Being the final challenge of the game was all it really had going for it. Even though it has a greater use now with potions I doubt people would praise it much if they reduced the difficulty.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
A "good" realm will still need lots of danger to be fun. If it is going to be a cotton candy land with monkies that poop tacos, they had better throw said tacos at you while you writhe in the pile of sticky cotton candy blocks. Otherwise it will just be forgotten.
It would be fun to have a twisted world like that, but an all good world is bordering on peaceful mode with a candy-based texture pack on it.
I think it would be great to have one, but there should be a danger factor. Also, the Ender Realm seems to follow the Nether in items required to get there. The "good" realm would then have to be after those two, and therefore more dangerous if you really want a progression aspect of the realms.
So ya, I support a "good" realm, as long as it has cannibalistic teletubbies in it, or something cute and sweet that will rip your face off. Otherwise I would fear it may be forgotten. -

Well take consideration of ALL the mods that have been made for MC. Then politely ask notch to included content that is in no way attributed or related to ANY mod that has ever been released.
I cannot honestly think of single thing that he could add that wouldn't 'infringe' on someone else's ideas. Besides, were talking about a sandbox game, eventually more then 1 person will think alike and want to make it 'official' and not 'stealing'. Take 4 million minds, take less then 2% of them who can code, sure enough that 2% will probably come up with something that Notch/Jeb would have thought of as well. The odds aren't staggering to make that impossible. -

Although, that raises an interesting question. If a modder has their work put into the official game - whether or not it's with their blessing - shouldn't they be glad that something they created actually made it into a live game? -
