BoP breaks vanilla worldgen. Don't use it on existing worlds.

Apparently the devs are doing their best to make BoP not interfere with the distribution of important resources,
so if your PC can handle it it should be fine.

Not quite true, perhaps in 1.7, but it definitely shouldn't not in 1.8+. Provided the world type is Vanilla's, you'll see no changes aside from perhaps some extra flowers in newly generated chunks. However, there shouldn't be any world borders or anything like that.

Although, i'm not sure why you'd use the mod if intending on using an existing world, unless of course an NBT editor was used to change the world type (causing seams). That might be what you're referring to though in which case my apologies.

How do you go about disabling biomes entirely? On previous versions I could just edit a config file.

You still can, set the biome id if the biome you wish to disable to -1. It's this way to make it clear that the biome id is no longer used if you choose the option (unlike in past, where the id would still be occupied but the biome wouldn't generate).

If you wish to change the weights for a certain biome see https://github.com/Glitchfiend/BiomesOPlenty/wiki/Configuring-Biomes

Thank you for the response! After some more tinkering with the mods, I've figured out it is a compatibility issue with the Highlands mod. I realized that there were a LOT more Highlands Biomes than usual. And after pulling out Highlands, more BOP biomes showed up. I am curious however, is there a way to modify the biome weights in BOP? I will be bringing this up to the developer of the mod and see if there is anything I can do on my part. I know that I've altered the Biome ID's to prevent ID conflicts, so It might be a bit more complex than I though. But thank you again for the response :)

Biome weights (among other things) can be altered using the setup here: https://github.com/Glitchfiend/BiomesOPlenty/wiki/Configuring-Biomes

Some of the stuff there did change in 1.9, haven't gotten to updating it yet, but the weights should work the same in both 1.8.9 and 1.9

Feeling dumb for asking this, but is the 1.8.9 version of the mod not set up yet to have biomes generate yet? I've tried tinkering with a few of the options and still have no luck. Tried using the BOP setting and the Default with BOP Biomes as well. Loving the new rafflesia plant though! Thank you in advanced :)

The latest version of 1.8.9 should have all of the overworld biomes added at this point. Our biomes only generate in our worldtype on brand new worlds (unless an NBT editor is used). I'm not sure whether you're using the client or the server, but in the case of the server, the level-type needs to be set to BIOMESOP in server.properties

I can't grasp how to write the json files to configure the biomes. Did my best interpreting the github page and general info about the json formatting.

Here's my rough draft for the Flower Field biome: flower_field.json

It looks like your biggest problem there is that you've included some properties without setting their values. You don't need to include these unless they are what you wish to change. I also believe you're missing commas after the generators and the weights sections. There should be an error in the log when you start the game up about where the mistake has occurred. The game won't crash, but it should still be there.

That is indeed the correct location/filename/var name, although you may need to convert that from hexadecimal to regular decimal (something like this will do that quickly if unsure how http://www.binaryhexconverter.com/hex-to-decimal-converter)

What is the maximum value for biome weights please? I ask because I'm very particular about how I would like my biomes to appear relative to each other.

Out of respect to the modmakers I did my due diligence to scour all 559 (at the time of posting) pages of this thread to see if this question has been asked before. It has: by a guy named CPB on page 456, comment #9199. But it appears it's been ignored or overlooked. Other comments that had the word "weight" on it were not helpful in my plight.

I also tried creative ways of finding this value out on my own. The minimum is 1. if it isn't then it's the "safe minimum" as 0 produces an error. Seeing as the type is an integer, I thought I could produce a similar error by picking a number greater than the highest unsigned integer. It did not. Which leads me to believe that the limit of this variable is programmatically regulated.

I've seen configs made by other people where the value go up to 40.

Thank you very much in advance and keep up the exceptional work!

Weights should have no maximum value (beyond what can be expressed as in integer in Java, which is 2147483647). They're simply arbitrary numbers corresponding to a biome's rarity, larger numbers simply mean it is more common relative to lesser numbers.

BoP is not compatible with that anti id conflict mod. In 1.7 we intentionally override Vanilla biomes which is completely allowed by Forge without that mod.

Then why doesnt my custom world generator plugin work when your mod is installed? I am using multiverse as my world management plugin. I set its type to NORMAL, and i set the custom generator to my plugin, and if your mod is installed, it generates all the land as normal. If I remove your mod, with same exact setup, it works fine. My test says otherwise. My plugin is trying to generate an overworld, but your generation code still kicks in despite its type set to NORMAL and not BIOMESOP. My server.properties file has its type set to BIOMESOP so the main world generates as it should.

That's entirely up to the custom generator plugin, nothing to do with us. We don't do anything different from Vanilla with regards to how our Overworld generation structure is setup compared to other dimensions. By the sounds of it, if you use any other mod world type (or possibly even Vanilla, such as superflat) the same thing will happen. To me, it seems like an intentional design decision made by whoever is responsible for that plugin and it would be a bug to function otherwise.

Additionally, if it's a 'plugin' as opposed to a mod, assuming this is Bukkit, I highly doubt it was designed with mods in mind, just as BoP isn't designed with plugins. "NORMAL" as far as they are concerned likely means "Copy whatever is in the Overworld for this World Type". BoP shouldn't need to add single-purpose config options to work around the programming of other things, especially when they aren't even mods.

Twilight Forst is one good example of a mod that uses it own custom generation and biomes in its own dimension, all without any of our biomes spawning (provided there are no id conflicts, an issue which is for the user to deal with). Similarly, Mystcraft, whilst not perfect, is a particularly relevant example as it allows custom dimensions to be made with or without our biomes along with custom generation as is chosen by the user. Only the biomes added to the dimension explicitly spawn when that setup is chosen. Hence, I see no reason why something else could not do the same.

HI I tried to run my BOP 1.8-3 alpha again, this time it didn't crash and then I rediscovered what is wrong with it. The problem is All that version contains is the Blocks nothing else, so when I try to load a BOP world the world loads but there are no Biomes ..except the vallina biomes there are no BOP mobs or items ether.. and only the blocks can be found in creative mode. that's why it doesn't work.

and I don't think the 1.8.9-3 beta will work with my 1.8 minecraft and mods will it?

It depends if the other mods are updated or not. Any existing worlds made should support 1.8.9 BoP just fine, Also, by the sounds if it you're using a *very* old version to begin with (can't be sure how old though, as you didn't include the build number frrom BiomesOPlenty-1.8-3.0.0.<Bla>). In builds made for 1.8 since (not 1.8.9) quite a number of biomes have been included.

Setting biome ids to -1 isn't fully supported in 1.7. Reika recently made a pull request to make progress on this, however it's unlikely this will ever completely work on 1.7 due to the countless changes required to account for biomes not existing. This does work in 1.8, only because it has accounted for it from the onset.

Running the latest forge + optifine + bop but also crashes if I run it without optifine.

Can't reproduce this at all. Although, it's worth noting that that isn't the latest version of Forge anymore. Latest is (currently) 1684, which i've just tested against and it works fine. Also, we've tested it on both the client and server on Forgecraft on 1675 without any troubles.

After a lot of searching I am afraid I am either terribly unlucky or they aren't fully spawning. Searching under jungle, desert, ocean, and forest biomes yields not a single gem of any type.

AND! As a general question for anyone, do any texture packs work for this mod? If so how? Been looking to pretty up these new fun trees and haven't had much luck.

As in, in newly generated chunks with BoP 1594? Keep in mind, they don't spawn in Vanilla biomes, only in some of our biomes (at least for now)

Texture packs do work with the mod, they need to use the assets/biomesoplenty folder structure seen here: https://github.com/Glitchfiend/BiomesOPlenty/tree/BOP-1.8.9-3.0.x/src/main/resources

Other than that, they work as they would in Vanilla.

So if your not updating the 1.8 alpha anymore does this mean it will keep crashing my minecraft apon load up?.. and illhave to wait till my mod sets to catch up to 1.8.8 before I can even use Biomes O'plenty :(

That's not very specific really, I need logs to tell if there's something that needs fixing or is simply another mod
