I think many think Minecraft is dying because it's dying for them (as in they're not really interested anymore), but CTM seems to be actually dying down a bit. It used to be a lot more youtubers were interested in CTM maps, especially back when Vechs was more active. I'd say the excitement peaked around 1.2.5, and had plateaued until about 1.6 or 1.7, and then Xekaj quit, Vechs quit for a while and hasn't released anything but SHO since coming back, Amlup and three_two have been (sort of) working on their next maps, with the latter planning to quit afterwards...
However, on the other hand, a new generation of CTM mapmakers has picked up the slack when the earlier fell off the map, most notably Heliceo, Krose, ExamineKid, ColdFusion, and several others, who have all created some excellent maps to hold us over. I suspect now that the combat update has occurred, we'll end up seeing a new generation of maps. The minimaps of the Strawberry Jams have already given a hint of this, and with many creators with maps under construction, I'm sure we'll get a ton of new stuff.
Personally, I'd like to see some more full-length themed maps. It seems with Legendary, Vechs planted the seed for the modern CTM area theme format, but unfortunately, good maps with one united theme (and to a larger extent, open world maps in general) have been monopolized by Vetches (Sea of Flame, Inferno Mines, Nightmare Realms, Canopy Carnage, etc.). I'm hoping to see more of these kinds of maps in the future, and I think a lot of modern mapmakers have the potential to do so.
Unbelievable. I've never seen such a complex speedrun in Minecraft. And some of the techniques he used to speed things up were pretty cool. I especially appreciated the teleporting back and forth at the end.
K, I'm back again, probably just for this post. Is this thread falling apart, or are people just talking more elsewhere. I recall this thread used to have five new posts every hour.
All of the links for Tricky Treat are broken for me. They just link straight back to the forum page. Otherwise, I'm gonna have a go at this one. I'm particularly excited for the 1.9 one. I wanna see if you can figure out how to balance it. I think mini-maps may be easier to balance with 1.9.
Unless Mojang increases the rate at which you can swing a weapon...
What a lot of people aren't taking into consideration is that you can swing a weapon however much you want, and it will knock the mobs back the same amount as a full charge. It's just that the full charge will be the hit that actually does the damage.
Community Question: What do you think of the changes in 1.9?
My opinion:
1. The combat is not any worse, it's just different. The sword is still the best weapon; they've balanced out the other tools.
2. The regen is also not worse, but simply different. I think a lot of people will have to see it in effect (in CTM maps) to see how it works better, but for now, let me explain a bit. First off, you won't need more food unless you take more damage. The amount of regen is relative to food eaten as well as damage taken. So unless you take an abnormal amount of damage, you won't eat more food. Second, because eating food still takes time, you won't be able to just sit down and eat with a bunch of monsters surrounding you. The best decision is still to back up and make sure you're safe.
3. Everything else seems pretty cool to me. I like the idea of an area using the new frost walker enchantment.
I had been following Minecraft on Youtube for about a year when I got the game during 1.3. I played on Normal the first time. Found a desert temple almost immediately, explored and got some good stuff, can't remember what. Anyways, that night I went caving and with my extremely laggy computer, managed to get killed by a skelly. I raged and deleted the world, and that's it.

Update?

Is there a functioning version of NEI for 1.10.2? Version 2.1.1.145 crashes my game while initializing the mod.
EDIT- Same goes for 2.1.1.144.

There was actually one server a long time ago that had a lot of active players, I think you joined after it ended.

So it's pushed back to 2017 now, isn't it.

K, rant over.

Gonna try to get back into CTMs by playing the jam maps. Will be streaming for fun, probably with no viewers. :3

Hey guys, I'm here again. How long have I been gone?

Alright, so Smitje's map is basically impossible. There's absolutely no way to fight the mobs at all.
