Carnage Heart is not very well-known at all, and it's a pretty niche game so I doubt a lot of people would like it if they even knew it existed. [It's a PS1 game in which you build robots to fight other robots, but instead of controlling them yourself, you create their (fairly complex) A.I. and watch them try to kill stuff.]
its like tetris. keep yourself from losing, for as long as possible.

I'm glad this has been brought up again, because somebody has before, and I've thought of a good reply.
Listen up.
By your logic, the object of Tetris is to prevent failiure... to stop the blocks from building up to the top of the screen. There is another aspect to Tetris: it is a high score game.
Minecraft Survival is a high score game. If you sit in a box, you get 0 points, just like you don't beat Tetris by PAUSING IT.
Wasn't Notch going to add hunger? Maybe thirst too. Without those things, it doesn't seem like you're surviving. It just seems like you're building stuff.
I'm pretty sure he specifically said he didn't want hunger or thirst because they punish the player even when the player is doing things right.
From what I understand, vehicles need to be entities. I assume they will be crafted for the most part like anything else, placed as block, and then hit to turn into an entity [TNT], or will always be in entity form and must be thrown from the inventory or something.
How Notch will support customization, I'm not sure, but I can't see it being in the form of "Player builds whatever the hell they want and it's recognized as a vehicle". Instead, perhaps something like:
Player crafts boat.
Vehicle: Boat
Upgrade: 1
Player places boat on crafting table, with an 'upgrade' item on top of it, such as a torch.. or sail.
Boat + Torch changes the boat into an entirely new entity. [TorchBoat] Acts identical to a Boat, but gives light like a torch. Similar, but not the same entity as Boat.
Boat + Sail creates a slightly faster boat. [SailBoat]
Boat + Wood [Or cloth, or whatever material.] creates a boat with a roof/canopy, to protect you from arrows? [TUTLEBOATYEAH]
ANYWAY. Maybe the boat would have more upgrade slots and whatever. This would allow for some customization, and the boats can remain entities. [I assume.]
Personally, I think that seems realistic and enjoyable. It's not as free as some people would like, I'm sure, but some people also seem kind of unreasonable, so. ~_~

Just assemble, then activate.
From large mess of blocks into a ship entity... it stays as an entity until it is destroyed.
How would the game begin to recognize it as something that should turn into an entity, if it's a large mess of blocks?
Back when I was like.. I don't know, really young. When I still didn't know next to anything about internets. I was probably like, 8 to 10 or something. My cousin who was 5 years older, was into internets.
He went by the name of MaxTaz at the time, and he told me I could be AirTaz, though I didn't really get it.
As I got older, and into internets, I ended up joining a Pokemon IRC, and requiring a name, went by AirTaz. Then as I got into my teens, 'ShadowTaz' because it seemed cooler. [I still have a few accounts floating around with that name, and my e-mail is still ]
Over time, I just wanted to be Taz, and so I am.
My cousin long-since changed his name to 'Graf'. I still sort of wonder if he still remembers why I go by Taz.
I like telling that story. ( ° w °)
And yeah, not the Tasmanian Devil. I get that a lot.
I wonder if taz thought they would get 206 replies.
No, but I feel manly and successful because of it.

I wonder if taz thought we'd get this far off topic, lol
Didn't expect it, but I'm not really surprised things have gone in this direction.
Though, I'm slightly annoyed that people are still "zOMG HOW IS I WILL PROTEKTS MY STUFS W/O LOCKS/PANDA DEMONS" when the whole damn thread was specifically to encourage hiding your stuff, and, y'know, not leaving it out in the open like an ass-hat, praying to Notchgod that we'll get locks so you don't need to use your head to protect your stuff. [And unless locks are 100% safe, all your shit is going to get jacked sooner or later if you just leave it in the open, so why complain?]
I mean, this is Minecraft. Every block is removable and replaceable. You can move the entire goddamn ground, form oceans and create mountains with your bare hands. You can go anywhere. There are essentially no limits. This should be inspiring creativity. You should be thinking "No one will ever be able to find my stuff!".
I'm just upset with how many people want this game to baby them, when it's so open-ended.
If you really don't want a challenge and want to **** around with friends and build stuff, play with people you know and trust in a private server. If you want a challenge and actual Survival elements in your Survival games, then play in open servers.
But if you want to play in open servers, keep in mind:

This is a game, and that means there's winners and losers. If you're not a winner, then you need to skill up.
Realistically, this is so much more than we should be able to carry. Be thankful! Have you ever tried carrying 2 cubic kilometers of stone on your back? :tongue.gif:
Pretty much this. If anything, I'd expect to get a smaller inventory in the future.

I guess I'd have to go with that.

Also, character battle sucks. Cloud beat Samus. That's BS. BS I TELL YOU.

I prefer the idea of robbing and leaving quietly. With this, thieves will have to cause destruction to get what they want. That's just not nice~.

Didn't see the part about a Diamond Pick. Sounds good.

In that case, it takes like 6-8 days for the payment to go through, and I assume you won't get Minecraft until then.

Might be recalling wrong.
