    Well for the most part, you would unzip the mod, and then dig inside of it for a folder named textures (this mostly applies to more recent mods *any mods after 1.5 update I believe), and really it boils down to if the mod has new textures, if they do, it's in the mod, so simply download the mod you want to edit the textures for, unzip it (using winrar, 7zip whatever floats your boat), and look for textures, that either exist in a folder named textures, look for spreadsheets of textures (which can be there if it's an older mod)


    Heres the problem tho, what about forge installed files that just use a .jar?

    Dear fellow minecraft folks,

    I love working on textures for resource packs but have run into a bit of a problem. I haven't the slightest clue on how to get to the texture files for mods so I can edit mod specific items.

    I am aware that different mods may do everything differently but is there a general way of finding the textures and editing them?

    If so, please let me know.
