OPs post is >140 characters. So it won't fit on twitter. Nice try though.

perhaps you should open an account for him so you can recant the OP's daily foibles in under 140 chars...

    I'd totally sub that ****.

Hmm... let me see. I doubt that the actual application's package contents are the place where it saves. Most likely it saves to a .Minecraft resource folder somewhere else in my computer. Let me look into finding hidden system folders...

On windows each world has it's own folder so "World1", "World2" etc. they are all inside the "saves" folder which is inside the ".minecraft" folder.

all we need is the WorldX folder all zipped up to download.

ah, cool Zor. I was trying to build the counter from the previous schematics and some fudging of my own, but the signal was getting lost somewhere and don't have enough redstone experience yet to troubleshoot well.

I'll try this new diagram later tonight or tomorrow hopefully :biggrin.gif:

EDIT: I can't get it to work :sad.gif:

it resets the cart every other cycle instead of going 5. I don't know what section is broken, but the right side torches 1010 then 0101 as the ticks go by.

Still haven't the faintest idea how to tell how frequently to count, but I guess I just have to experiment or something. :|

you want approximately 5 loops of the cart before it boosts you or resets its momentum.

and I'll throw this out there for anyone that needs:
    viewtopic.php?f=3&t=111562#_clocks

I haven't built this all yet, but I'll be brushing up on redstone counters when I do... instead of the boat counter.

Hah, I am so going to use the idea of clipping through a regenerating ceiling for a hidden room :happy.gif:

Also, I hope you get your plan to work well, bonus points if the walls and ceiling regenerate as well :tongue.gif:

haha, cool. Just remember to have the water comming towards you from either the South or West to get the elevator effect.

<Sigh> Well, back to the test chamber then...
Here we are with newly grown trees showing a decided tendency (100%) to avoid destroying torches or signs. If the code says replace them, it isn't happening. This is single player, fancy graphics. Both graphics quality and single/multi-player have previously been shown to affect leaves and trees.

Those appear to be Large Trees given the clearance shown in the pic...

Large Trees may not delete torches, signs redstone, etc., though their branches may I'm not sure.

From reading the section you quoted I think only Small Trees can be expected to delete objects on surfaces that intersect their leaves.

well here's an update to what I've been playing around with using regenerative walls/ceilings.

It "works" the way I thought it would as far as the walls repairing, but it's not an effective trap.

    The Walls and Floor:

First I cleared about a 50x50 area of bedrock using MCEdit to see if there was any natural formation I could use as a floor. In that area I found only 1 2x2 square of bedrock with air all around it... but beyond that there were 3 offending bedrock blocks that I deleted so I could put furnaces there instead. In theory, it'd be possible to find this shape naturally i think... but highly rare given what I saw.

Second problem is the speed the wall regenerated at. With a diamond pick, I was able to dig out a 1x2 hole and walk through into the waterfall behind it before the two stones regenerated.

Given these two major problems, I'd suggest obsidian walls/floor instead. It requires less effort to make, is more versatile as to where you want to put this trap and it takes as long or longer to escape from obsidian than it does from regenerating walls.

    The Ceiling

The ceiling has a weakness in that it must be separated by 1 layer from the regenerating walls (the obsidian ring around the top in the pics below) as currently designed and I don't see a solution to this. Simply by undermining this 1 layer gap between the ceiling and walls, you can disrupt the ability for the ceiling AND walls to regenerate (turns the corner lava sources into obsidian and allows you to dig/swim out).

Second, even without attacking this ring around the top, you can take out a ceiling block, jump up into the water's edge and ride it like a water elevator and clip right through the cobble block as it regenerates on top of you. While this would make a really cool secret entrance to a second floor hidden room... it's ineffective as a trap. The only current solution to this I see is finding a way to continuously generate a 2x2x2 cobble cube to block the top of an obsidian lined hole. I haven't yet found a way to do that though.

Here's the schematic of what I DID get working:
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1047839/SelfRep ... .schematic

    Pics:

I like to work in daylight so I moved the hole contraption to the surface including the bedrock.

    overview

looking up at the ceiling from inside the trap

if you hold forward you can dig and walk through this into the waterfall behind. And this is on singleplayer... with lag on SMP it'll be even easier... maybe an iron or stone pick would be enough.

Just showing the upper sections of the wall

and looking into the trap after I hopped out using the water elevator trick

However, I DO have another idea, but it would require some redstone and and has little or nothing to do with regenerating cobble.

I think I can fix the water elevator/ceiling issue if I can get a 2x2x2 cube above the hole. But it doesn ALL have to regenerate. I can make the lower layer regen and the upper layer out of obsidian. However, to automate this trap I'd need the victim to fall through 4 lava source blocks, into the obsidian hole and land on pressure plates. The pressure plates would trigger a water flow to freeze the lava sources the person fell through into obsidian and also somehow start up the cobble generator in the ceiling. With the ceiling repairing, there shouldn't be enough time to dig into the obsidian above, and by using furnaces on any other accessible blocks around the area, is should reduce the ability to sabatoge the system.

The goal would be to make the victim dig through as much obsidian as possible to get out or commit suicide (even if I could get someone stuck for 5 minutes would be good i think).

how did you get the signs to stay there?

You can, oddly enough, place signs on signs. I only found out about that recently, and prior to that was playing around with various patterns for maximizing water space up top.

so if you took the one sign on the wall all the rest (in that row) would fall?

    yes.

I don't understand, how are the chickens spawning and dying up there?

spawning when he throws eggs, dieing most likely because other chickens are bouncing around and drowning each other.

    Quote from Foxy Grampa »
I've always wondered, don't chickens despawn if you wander far enough away from them? I mean, with the amount of eggs you have this isn't an issue at all, but until then it'd be a huge pain to have your chickens all despawn every time you moved away from them.

They despawn if you walk too far away yes. My personal preference is to hook up an animal spawner with a chicken filter (using half-blocks) to fill a hatchery like shown in the OP. You can see my sig for a simple spawner design.

@the OP, I knew you could do that with signs, but I didn't think to do it quite to that scale for a full layer of water. Very cool! :biggrin.gif:

Im trying to set up a tree farm, but cant decide on the exact pattern i want to plant in. I want all the trees to be able to grow without blocking eachother, so that when i decide to "harvest" i can do so all in one go..
So, how much space do i need to make sure all trees can grow together? I have currently placed the trees with 5 blocks between them, so they dont block eachother, but it feels ineffective since it takes up so much space.

Im also curious what height is ideal? I want to be able to harvest all the blocks without placing a block to stand on, so i assumed that 6 high room would be great, however this leads to my trees only producing 4 logs each, wich is very íneffective. I guess a 7 high roof would produce 5-log trees, since the top block is always leaves as i understand it. Anyway, some suggestions on layouts would be appreciated, thanks.

I posted about this in a another thread.

Here's the first post I made on the first page
    viewtopic.php?f=1020&t=150594#p2160492

and here's the second of my posts on a different page. This one shows how I harvest it.
    viewtopic.php?f=1020&t=150594&start=30#p2162218

it's not "space efficient" as some would contest, but I can harvest it very quickly and it's easy to re-plant, just walk sideways and hold my mouse button. I think all the patterns people come up with like the 80% planted surface is dumb because you have to go multiple directions to harvest it all and to me, that wastes time (the world is infinite, space efficency is the least of your concerns, harvest efficiency should be the ONLY concern).
