If you add sword charging for more deadly strike, are you going to get slowness like bows? If that's the case, people would just move away and shoot you with bows... soo spam clicking by far is an effective way to fight...

maybe more enchantment for armors and weapons... the one that makes diversity to combat. maybe add pierce to bows, or enchantment that will give you chance to do criticals without jumping. And add a "real survival friendly way" to make chain armors
Also add variety to mobs.. maybe make them kinda smarter. Increasing skeleton's accuracy based on the day thingy, the longer you stay in an area, the better they get. maybe make mobs support each other, give them tactics.. pincer attacks, ambush, stuff like that. And please... add shields..
Also, add dodge... it would be great if you add this, we can finally dodge in battles with someone in a sword fight. That way, the dodging can decide who will win(instead of the first one to hit will win)
Add ways to make traps... not the big piston trap, more of a simple craftable landmine, or a bear trap, something like that...
Add custom sword crafting?? instead of all swords look the same without resource pack...
Spells... maybe add book of spells. maybe as a rare dungeon loot, or craftable stuff.
make friends with hostile mobs?? maybe add a way so we can summon them as a team and fight for us.

Can you make bows more... customizable? like the charging speed... maybe add enchantment for that, that would be nice.

I'm tired to see a map where the ending is just like "Thanks for playing" it's too much... can't really think of anything unique so i don't use that in my map... it's weird to see that everywhere..

I started from 1.2.5... those were the day of emptiness... i remember the days when they added enderman... or pumpkins... adding comparators... redstone has advanced by alot since then...

I just think about this recently... like the title say, what makes a map a good map? is it the uniqueness of the map? the great storyline? the details? what is it?

or you could just force to make the player hit the golem without them even realizing... the idea is to get an invisible, silenced golem with no AI in the way, maybe infront of a door or a switch... the player must hit that object which will force them to actually hit the golem without them realizing... you can detect the hit using the health as a scoreboard... the detection only detect things on where you want it to be detected. after the detection, get the golem to the save place to keep the golem away until it is needed... hope you're still following... you can probably disguise it for something.. maybe destroy a totem where the player must hit it multiple times until the golem's health is low enough then it will do what it needs to do..
