I got it to work. The problem was infact that my family now has xfinity. With xfinity comes a router/modem combo device thing which adds an additional port forwarding step. I had to connect to it with 10.0.0.1 and set up a port forward to our cisco router (10.0.0.2 for me) and then in the router forward that port to my internal ip (192.168.1.1xx). If this hasn't been added to any guides or FAQ then I suggest that it should.

A lot of residential ISPs have policies against using their services to host servers, perhaps they're blocking the connections. You could also attempt revising the ACLs of your router, although I'm not sure how accessible that is on home cisco routers nowadays.
I found someone with a somewhat similar problem here http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Home-Networking-Router-WiFi/Trouble-with-port-forwarding-Minecraft-server/td-p/1166213. They said Comcast (my isp) is not interfering but that was posted 2 years ago... I think my family also switched to xfinity recently but again, I'm not sure when in relation to when this problem started occurring.
I never had to mess with acls before and I cant find anything like it in the router other than wireless mac filtering.

Im trying to set up a server on my computer that friends can access outside my LAN. I have done this before but the past two or three times I have tried it hasn't worked. I am not sure if it started happening after or before we got a new router but this is the situation:
Running newest Bukkit dev build on default 25565 port.
Turned off all local firewalls and antivirus on host pc.
Turned off router firewall and tried single and then range port forwarding to my internal ip (192.168.1.1xx) for both tcp and udp
Asked my friend outside my network to try and connect (with external ip) and used several port checker tools and all of them are failing to connect.
I tried messing around with mtu, upnp, dmz, adding inbound and outbound rules for udp and tcp connections to my already disabled firewalls, trying different ports (25500 and 22222), and maybe a few other things I read online in articles.
I can connect to the server with another computer on my LAN so that would point to some problem with the bridge between internal and external network i.e. the router, correct?
Router is a cisco e1000 with Firmware Version: 2.1.02
I don't know what else to try so I thought of posting here even though I rarely get responses.
Thanks in advance for any help or thought on the matter.
Jul 4, 2012On the server I help run, mobs spawn (no way right?) They spawn and spawn until the server reaches the mob cap. This is when a problem occurs. Once the server reaches the cap, nothing else spawns. Spawned mobs dont despawn (especially if someone is using an exp grinder) So you can go out in a field or into a cave and you wouldnt have to worry about any creepers sneaking up behind you or skele's waiting around a corner to shoot you in the face.Posted in: Requests / Ideas For Mods
I think a plugin where every X minutes, it kills off a number of mobs. I dont know if this is possible, but it would really help to get some normal spawning back into play.

The server that I help run uses a plugin called PhysicalShop http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/physicalshop/ to operate a player run market. Individual shops are stocked by players and people can buy and sell according to the prices they place on the signs above the chest. However, sometimes these shops go unattended or the player becomes innactive.
To combat this, twice a week staff sweeps through the dozens of chests. If the chest is empty it is removed. If it is low on supplies then yellow wool is placed above and if it is still low during the next sweep, the shop is removed. Naturally this becomes tiring so I thought of creative an add-on for the plugin to help manage it.
Features of the plugin that I would like it to have: Generate wool above shops that are low, delete shops if they are empty for a while. create a database that logs chest contents so a player could use a command similar to /market search tnt and a list would be displayed to the player saying
Player1: TNT - Buy 3 for 1i - Sell 1 for 1i
Player 2: TNT - Buy 4 for 1i - Sell 1 for 1i
or they could do /market search player1 and his shops would be listed.
With all that said:
1) Would it be possible to modify or create an add-on to the physicalshop plugin to do this
2) Would doing so be allowed? Would I have to get permission from physicalshop developer or something?
Ive never even worked with minecraft coding before so Im pretty sure this is over my head but Ive been wanting to do something like this for a long time.

Are you sure you're not trying to make a plugin? There's a big difference between a plugin and a mod because one uses an api (bukkit) while the other uses pure java.

I'm pretty new to this too, but you would probably need a file for all items held within a shop. Then you could add a search function that goes for a specific Block ID. Then all shops would be displayed (somewhere) and the prices could be next to it. As for the inactive thing, I would say that every two hours or so the server would see if any of the shops have been used for the last two hours. If a shop gets, say, 24 of those in a row it could notify certain people.
I know how to go about designing it, that part is super easy. Its the actual making of it that I need help with.

I want to become a programmer. I enjoy programming and using problem solving skills to work out the problems. I have had relatively little learning experience, only a class in java (only learned up to arrays) and another in VB6 (lol)
I wanted to try and make a mod that takes a plugin (called physicalshop I believe) and creates a database so at the very minimum, you would be able to type a command such as /market search [item] and it would display a list of all the player shops that contain that item and how much they are selling for.
Other things that could be included into the mod would be to notify staff when a shop has been inactive, tell a player were a shop is in the market for easier finding, stuff like that.
Im not adding any new items or anyting but Im completely new to this so I dont know if this is over my head or not. I dont know what exactly I would need to do to achieve my idea for the mod (make an array with values for owner of the shop, item of the shop, last time it was used, etc) or make a new object of a shop class for each shop made?

When I try to login through the launcher MC will say I can't connect to Minecraft.net OR Login failed.
Now, I have tried to login on another computer, works fine. Via de webiste, works fine.
But I can't login on my own computer using the client. Sucks big time.

Now I'm playing in offline mode because the files downloaded through the website applet, I'dd stil like to get it fixed.
I don't have firewalls or anything installed and I enabled Minecraft all access through windows firewall.
Redownloading the client also didn't work.
So you deleted/moved the .minecraft folder and reinstalled minecraft and it didnt work?
The next thing I would do is make sure there's nothing wrong with your java.

might be how they start craftbukkit. for example: -Xincgc -Xmx1536M part...
they could try to back down the RAM allocated a bit. subtract 128 or 256M
could be one of the plugins. try removing a few at a time, and see if it still crashes.
or it could be the VPS or a flakey OS and nothing to do with bukkit.
well I only help run the server so I cant uninstall plugins and stuff. The admins have been busy with university lately so they can hardly get on anymore.
Ive been pretty much the only one looking for a solution from what I can tell other than one of the owners emailing the company.
I dont know what a vps or flakey os is so... =\

It got to the point (now) that I dont want to put up with the rollbacks anymore so Im lookin for a new server to hold me off until that server is fixed and to maybe keep playing on once it is fixed.Posted in: Starting Up / Looking For Server
Im lookin for the server to have the factions mod, allow griefing, no white-list, and TNT enabled. Those are the only major things that I can think of right now so post up if you know a server like what Im looking for =D
