In 1.8.5?4? idk but upwards as well head skins are the skin they were when they were /given. So you could change your skin multiple times and get the head each time.
I like this idea, because installing maps can be confusing for people who aren't very good with computers. (What other game has you open up its data folder, ever?) However a major issue will be lack of use - a tool like this is useless if it doesn't have a large base of maps.
You may want to look into custom item models. In the shovel in particular, I noticed that since you had semitransparent pixels at the edges, the edges of the held item were also semitransparent. Summon a zombie holding a stone shovel with no ai and you will see what I am talking about. It looks rather ridiculous.
Also, in my personal opinion you should tackle hostile mobs then do the rest of the blocks.
I am utterly and completely stuck on the bit with the changing blocks and the buttons in the 'lab'. I think the textures were on the birch log in the first one, I'm not so sure about this one. The squiggly lines bit. I have no idea how the two things are related to each other, I've no idea what I'm supposed to do.
You know what'd be awesome? If when you right click on the chest, it opens, but there's no button. Instead, when you right click the CLASP, like the EnderStorage microblock thing, the chest opens and stays open, no inventory. All the blocks separate, and whirl around in a tornado or something, then flow into the chest, growing smaller until they're small enough to pass through the top. If there are blocks inside, the same thing happens in reverse. Then the top of the chest flips closed again.

Nope. I can do whatever I want. However, I would not be able to post it without his permission.
Also, the trapped chest and ender chest is still default.
