Wow. I dislike most of these sounds, but the falling damage and cactus ones seem alright. Still, some were particularly bad... the bow and fishing rod sound horrible.
I kind of agree. While the new additions are definitely nice, it seems as if the original values of Minecraft, of exploration and creativity, are being supplanted by adventure and mechanics.
It IS the adventure update after all... though I guess I'd rather have an exploration update
I'm sure you're right, but making such a ballsy and ambitious claim without providing any substantial evidence (that pic is useless) is trollworthy.
I know you want to flout your project and all, but next time just wait till its done to make your thread if you don't want to share it with us beforehand.
Simply put, don't use the new additions. If ignored, these features don't detract from the core of the game, which still is and will continue to be block-based survival and/or creation.
f you have just as much cave surface area as groud(easily possible based on the image posted of caves), roughly 1/2 the mobs will spawn underground instead of on the surface, and hence you see 1/2 as many mobs spawning.
People who make mob grinders use the oppisite effect: they light up all caves in the area, and the surounding area, in order to get very high spawn rates in their grinder.
For example in my 1.9pre world my initial spawn area had a ridiculous number of caves systems, mineshafts and otherwise really dark places underground. The more spaces there are underground the higher chances mobs will spawn there then above ground during night.
At nighttime it shouldn't make much of a difference whether there are cave systems/mineshafts, should there? After all, dark is dark, and I would imagine an even, equal spread (though if moonlight does effect mob spawning, then I guess your point is correct).
Kind of a silly thread. What's the fun in risking your life fighting creepers if there's precisely nothing at risk? The adrenaline rush you get killing things in hardcore comes from knowing that you faced death off and won, preserving the world you've been working on.
You're not 'supposed' to do anything. This is a free game, and the only game experience you recieve from it is what you yourself will make out of it. It's your very own world, and the fun you recieve from it is what you yourself decide to do with it, whether that be mining quarries or cave systems, building mansions or living as a nomad, staying in an area or exploring the world.
The fun in Minecraft comes from its freedom, and ultimately your own creativity and imagination. If you come to others asking what you're supposed to do, you've misunderstood the fundamental concept of the game - that of deciding yourself what to do and how to do it.

If not, basketball court? That's what I first thought when I saw the pic.

Have fun.
