Stevian Villagers
Simple medieval townsfolk with familiar faces
Simple medieval townsfolk with familiar faces
I'm a big fan of the original "look and feel" of minecraft, with its simple low-resolution textures, and slightly medieval/fantasy feeling. But the villagers have always left me feeling a little sad, and so I thought I'd make a resource pack, JUST to replace the villagers with something a little more.. familiar.
The Stevian Villagers resource pack is a very light pack, which only replaces the textures on the 5 stock villager types (as well as the unused sixth "villager"). Gone are the silly noses and unibrows, replaced with friendlier, more steve-ier characters: The Farmer, the Barmaid, the Blacksmith, the Village Historian, and the Lord Mayor. Each with their own unique style and personality.

Known Issues
Reproductive issues
In their natural state, villagers appear to be sexually monomorphic, that is to say, they don't seem to have genders. Villager reproduction can occur between any two villagers, regardless of character class. The "Girls" (barmaids/butchers) as defined in this resource pack, are far outweighed by the population of "Boys" (all the other villagers) in any given village. As such, most "breeding" is statistically most likely to be between two villagers who have a texture that suggests they are both male. The only hope for fixing this would be if Mojang suddenly decided to add a second "Female" villager type. Given that all the other breedable minecraft mobs are sexually monomorphic, I suspect we'll be waiting a long time for this. At the end of the day, it's just a game. Have a laugh, and get back to mining. Life is too short to stress about things like this.
Children with beards
Villager Children don't have their own texture, so they use the texture of the adult class that they're destined to become. As such, they may appear with white hair, beards or 5-o'clock-shadow. Since there is no "Child.png" to modify, this is currently un-fixable. Assume the children are "Playing Dress-up" for a school play.

Using comparators to send constant pulses to droppers no longer works. I have come up with a design that works to counter this though.

People who actually set up farms and let them grow naturally = don't care
Bone meal was never meant to be your primary source of food. If food was meant to grow instantly then it would have, or you could just eat the bone meal. I've always built farms everywhere I go and even though I have a two double wide chests full of bones I have never relied on them for food, only to finish off those slow crops when the rest of the farm is done.

Messing with additional inputs is a bad idea. You would lose all ability to have compact arrays of dispensers / droppers.
Changing how a dispenser/ dropper behaves based on the power level in put is a bad idea too. A lot of circuits rely on direct input from a repeater to function. We would also loose the ability to have compact arrays.
I really don't see the problem with having a separate block, the number of possible blocks was expanded significantly so that is not an issue. Tomorrow we should be getting a new snapshot with hopefully more dispenser features to differentiate between the two.

For future reference (unless it's changed in a future update) The Comparator actually updates in a 3d + shape in front of it. So that's the block in front, and in front of that, to the sides, as well as above and below

Some of the textures are wonky for now but it's a snapshot so they will be fixed before the release.
What makes it stupid? The fact that you can now animate just about every texture? The fact that when the game updates you won't need to update your texture packs to get access to the new blocks? The fact that it will have native HD support? The fact that you can easily mix and match textures from different packs regardless of resolution? The fact that it will be significantly easier to add new blocks when the Mod API comes out?
Are you making an informed decision or one of "Oh no my current texture pack doesn't work" (use the stitcher provided by Dinnerbone) or one of a texture pack creator who has to update their texture pack?

Close the detector in solid blocks, it turns it into a moonlight detector.
