Well, I didn't come up with any ideas on it bieng a renewable resource. But, I thought, painting should be special, and you shouldn't go around painting everything; like I said in my flower-dye idea. But, for large-projects, There still shouldn't be an issue. The amount of the colored ores in one generated world, would be as common as finding dirt-pockets when mining. And, an MC world is pretty vast, so you'll have to do some exploring in areas surrounding your base! But, I still think this idea is strong enough to be stand-alone, and doesn't need to be renewable.
Excuse me, yeah.. Hey, genericfangirl, could you do me a favor? You see that fire extinguisher over there? *Pause for lolz from people who get the meaning*
We definitely need more of a variety of music. Maybe Notch has uploaded longer lasting songs, or of a different genre. I would also like it if we had an option to control how often music comes on.
I'm gonna have to disagree with you mate, finding ores is fun for sure but destroying perfectly good redstone, bluestone etc. that can have other uses such as making traps and circuits seems a bit of a stretch since mined resources arent renewable.
The other thing is for large scale projects, imagine i want to paint a 10,000 block castle castle a shade of 'creeper green', seems like alot of work and waste to mine all the ore just to make paint :tongue.gif:. Also about making paints out of plants, take a read of: http://www.pioneerthinking.com/naturaldyes.html
It's possible to make many different colours out of plant flowers, leaves, bark, fruits and veg. My opinion, but i'd rather have a plethora of plantlife that can be turned into food, dyes, medicine and be renewably farmed.
You didn't even think about how rare these stones could be. Like I said, I want the redstone for coloring to be a different ore than the current redstone. The ores could also be common. One lump of colored powder could make a paint bucket big enough for multiple uses. Think, people, before you post. I doesn't have to be shiny-pokemon rare.
I just recently thought of a new method for crafting paints. It involves RedStone. Now, combining the flowers idea, with this idea, I came up with this product; Implement, a Yellow Stone, and a Blue Stone. The new stone powders will have other abilities that I can't think of yet, but for now I'm focusing on the paints. Now, to create paint, one places powder directly over a bucket. This can be done in the player's crafting grid, making paint versitile. Simpily place the powder above a bucket of water.
Voila! Instant paint! To create other colors, players would mix the 3 base powders to make the entire MC color spectrum, allowing this paint idea to be my best one yet! (in my opinion.) Not only Does this make finding the ores more fun then hunting flowers, it also make more sense. Would crushing the head of a rose, mincing it to a super-fine concinstensty, then stirring it up in water make it red?

Don't think so.
