The sense of the examples is irrelevant: The point remains valid regardless. Adding them would, as you have said to justify this suggestion, not change much except for adding inefficient ways to get resources. So, by your logic, they should be added.

It adds nothing: We already have dirt.

It improves nothing: It's less efficient than methods already available.

If you don't like using it as intended (food), throw it out. This suggestion is ultimately redundant and that makes it unworthy. But I've grown bored of explaining these things. Enjoy your zombie dirt.
It adds a recipe. it's less efficient but effiency isn't everything. I use it as food but i still got 20 stacks in one chest. You think i'm being irrelevant? You examples are irrelavent. It's just something that should be in minecraft. Plain and simple. i might never use it but i would still be happy if it happend cause it just should. Not everything has to have logic or use.
If you gonna use irrelevant examples, i will too. Things can be useless. Fore example, the title screen has texts at the logo, Thats useless. All it does is look nice and cause title screen lag cause it's animated. But it's still there.

Diamond, iron, and gold are well know minerals. I don't even know what colbat is.

We all probably know what diamond is. Alot of things is made of iron, and probably the majority of the people on earth would know what gold is.
    And lapis is stupid.

No it doesn't. We ALREADY HAVE dirt and leather.

Should we allow dirt to be smelted into sand for people who spawn far from a desert? Or how about we let snowballs be craftable into logs for people who spawn in the middle of a giant tundra? Not much will change except for getting sand and logs inefficiently. By your logic, we should be allowed to do these things. So why aren't they also suggested?

Do you seriously not realize that your examples sound really silly? And it does add a new recipe. Even if it turns something into not new. And i already agreed with you that leather is a bad idea.
Here is how your examples are not very good examples.

Snowballs into loggs? That doesn't even make sense.
Dirt into sand? How is that even possible?
Flesh into dirt. Theres not much diffrence between fertilizer and dirt. Both grow plants. Which is really the only thing that dirt does in minecraft so it actually is pretty much the same.

"It won't change much besides giving you an inefficient way to do things: Add it!" - With all due respect, you're not very good with logic, are you? That would be a reason not to add it, if anything.

If it does not ADD or IMPROVE anything, it has no reason to be added.

Should we allow dirt to be smelted into sand for people who spawn far from a desert? Or how about we let snowballs be craftable into logs for people who spawn in the middle of a giant tundra? Not much will change except for getting sand and logs inefficiently.

I'd be glad to support this if anyone gave the slightest reason why it should be supported. If it added something, improved anything, served any purpose at all other than pandering to players who want nonsensical handouts. But you give me nothing.

It's not just a handout. And it does add something. it adds a crafting recipe. And you examples don't seem to have much logic either. Some people who have stacks and stacks of flesh should be able to use it. And if you say that it gives too much value to flesh, well it's dirt. Who cares about dirt. This is my reason for it to be used.. An emergency block. It could save your life.
And if you don't wanna use it, it barely makes i diffrence anyways. I'm not supporting this just cause i want dirt. No one really wants dirt. I'm supporting this cause it should be added. I'm not gonna use it. But i still like it. If this was added, i would be happy even if i wouldn't use it. Other people would use it. Besides, saying this has no point is like saying cobble made from water and lava is stupid. Well, actually it is stupid. But it still got added and people use it. Explain to me how this is any worse than a cobble factory. Give me a good reason why?

That would require adding new blocks to get the slabs to do that. How much time do you think that would take? Seems like a waste of time.

    Quote from D_Cooper

Prepare for itemized yet constructive criticisms:

    1) One suggestion per thread, please.

    2) These suggestions lack any detail at all.

    3) Diamond tools are strong enough. Obsidian tools are infamous for being a terrible idea.

    4) We don't need useless new metals.

    5) Obsidian exists to be incredibly strong, not used as a crafting material.

    6) While I support the creation of obsidian stairs and the like, I very much prefer this concept as implemented in a mod (called the Eighth Blocks Mod - last I checked, sadly not updated) as opposed to your implementation here. It permits far more variety and creativity.

    7) Obsidian is far too easily farmed. Once a player reaches the Nether, they have an effectively endless supply immediately at hand. That would render these powerful tools terribly unbalanced.

In other words, I do not approve.
I agree on all of those.

posted a message on More ways to obtain exp orbs
    Quote from redsand

Farming takes hardly any effort at all, why should someone be rewarded for doing pretty much nothing? Also, for the players who avoid monsters, well they're **** out of luck. If they want the EXP to enchant, they will have to get over it and kill some mobs. Sometimes you have to do things in the game you don't want to, in order to get something you do want.

Once, someone has said that this game has begun to become too much about fighting. So i think other ways to get xp makes sense. But maybe a 1/250 chance to get 1 Xp orb for every block you break. That might be balanced.

    Again. Illogical.

By your (lack of) logic, obsidian tools, airplanes, and every new dimension idea should be added because "Some people will not care and some people will like it."

You do not add things because few will use them. If anything, you add things that many will use.

It adds nothing new. It improves on nothing old. That makes it a bad suggestion.

This is my oppinion on your examples. Remember i said no one will care. That means no one will really hate it that much.

Obsidian tools: If someone used an obsidian sword and obsidian armour, then people will care and hate it. Which is diffrent then what i mean.

Airplanes: I would hate people flying away. thats less logic than me.

New demensions: New demensions will have new items. New items mean people who don't care will not have them. They will care. Which is diffrent than my point.

Dirt: Who would object to dirt? If someone doesn't use it, they won't care cause all it is is an inefficient use of flesh to get dirt. While people who use it will like it cause they get to use it.

It seems the the reason why people hate this is just because its based off of dirt. Stop thinking about the idea itself for a while and think about what the game will be like. Whats going to happen? All it is is dirt. So not much will change except for getting dirt inefficiently.

We should do pyramids or something for castles too.

And maybe snow villages with snow golems. Although they'd all die pretty easily cause they attack alot of hostile mobs....

Why not? It is silly, illogical (even within the game's less-than-logical rules), excessive, and serves utterly no use save pandering to the lazy and spoiled. Also, as you said, no one will ever use it.

    Also, your logic is terrible.

"No one will ever use it. It won't make much of a difference. LET'S ADD IT!"

You do not add things that won't make a difference. You do not add things no one will use.

I ment not alot of people will use it. I'll use it. But so little people will use it that you probably won't be compelled to use it. So add it. Some people will not care and some people will like it. So no harm done really. Except for maybe a few minutes of coding one crafting recipe.

posted a message on Boats Evolved; bigger, modular boats
    Man this topic's old.

Anyways, i don't think it should be added. It kind of rivals the boats. If it's purely better than the boats, i don't think people will like it. I know people will dissagree with me when i say this but minecraft should be simple. A simple boat. Not something imporoved. Maybe as a mod but this shouldn't be in normal minecraft. But a iron, gold, a diamond boat would be a good idea(although gold is useless cause it's not like you can enchant and thats the only thing it's good for.)

posted a message on Making rotten flesh more useful
    Quote from D_Cooper

    This suggestion is...Just...Painful.

    1) Flesh cannot become dirt. Flesh decays and decomposes. But it does not become dirt. If anything, it becomes compost but compost is not the same thing as mere dirt.

    2) We do not NEED renewable dirt. It's the second most abundant resource behind stone. If you want dirt in a desert, go find it and bring it to the desert. Resource gathering and exploration is a part of the game for a reason. Stop being lazy.

    3) Rotten flesh, being rotten, would make terrible leather. Also, "flesh" includes meat (notice it's eatable). Leather isn't made with meat.

    4) Rotten flesh has a use already. It's food. Emergency food, granted, but that's still a use. Who honestly looks at rotted zombie meat and thinks "Boy, I sure wish I could use this for more stuff!"?

All this thread says to me is that the player is lazy and probably a very spoiled person, demanding everything come to them to save work. Heaven forbid you have to walk a little bit in-game to go gather dirt to bring to your island. Not everything needs fifty uses. It's decaying corpse meat, for god sakes. Be glad it has any use at all. This suggestion is very bad.

I agree with you on the leather part.
But anyways, if the part where it turns into dirt is useless, it's not like it plays a big part in the game to get dirt. No one will even use it. Just like no one uses cobble factorys cause it's slower than mining. And killing zombies is slower than digging dirt. And a waste of time.
But anyways, whats the harm? If you ask why someone would add it, well why not? It won't make much of a diffrence.
