Okay what the hell. Trying to use this pack while I screw around offline until online works again. I'm using the latest version, applying it with the latest version of the terrain patcher, but when I get to the main menu (the Mojang logo loads just fine and it is retextured) it crashes. Anyone know why?
I like to compile a lot of stuff from various texture packs in order to create my own conglomeration of stuff I like. I'm tired of using armor on my character skin if it just covers me in a big, ugly chunk of whatever material I make it out of, so I'm looking for new textures for it. Does anyone have any good retextures they'd like to share?
Crap. So when using my custom textures I'm doomed to teleport through a sheet of purple? Wait how does that make sense. The purple I speak of is the purple you see on the terrain.png when there's nothing there by default. Hm.
You could try doing the chandelier thing. Build dirt up the just a block away from the ceiling of your base, place a fence post there, then place a wood block directly under the fencepost. Then put torches on all four sides of the wood block. Doesn't look amazing, but it's better than jutting out of the wall.
I made a bigass floating island entirely out of dirt, and in order to get the first patch of grass on it I had to dig a hole and put some water in it. After I did that it spread like wildfire, and soon enough I had a lovely green landscape. So yeah, water, light, and other grass beside it.
Normal mining is finding a cave and gathering its resources or something, whereas strip mining is finding a wall of solid smoothstone and digging into it, essentially stripping it to bare stone/caverns and generating a crapload of cobblestone. Not very efficient and, in my experience, a pretty poor way of finding rare materials like gold and diamond.

How do I fix this?
Also, is it just me or has the Minecraft forum search bar disappeared?

If you so choose, yes.
