Paradigms thing doesn't work anymore you have to keep both blocks there, no suffocation happens though.
Notch has removed this glitch altogether in the offline client. Now, if you delete a block of dirt, any sloped rails adjacent to that block of dirt will also be destroyed. You can still do it in infdev though.
Yeah, how do you do it then? By the time I got around to trying to do it, it's already removed.
Edit: Yeah doesn't look like it works in infdev either, unless I'm doing it wrong.
You're probably doing it wrong, as I've just built some linear accelerators in Infdev...
Let's try a detailled explanation. Here is a side view of a track. [iron] is flat track, [gold] is track ramp, is... erm... soil :tongue.gif: and is air.
1- Remove one track and put a block of dirt in its place :
[iron] [iron] [iron] [iron] [iron] [iron]
2- Add a track on the top of the new block. The two segments before and after will then change to ramps
[iron]
[iron] [iron] [gold] [gold] [iron] [iron]
3- add another block on top of the first ramp and lay another track on top of this block. The track on top of the first block will turn into a ramp
[iron]
[gold]
[iron] [iron] [gold] [gold] [iron] [iron]
4 - Remove the last block (it will also remove the track ontop of this block. Et voila!
[gold]
[iron] [iron] [gold] [gold] [iron] [iron]
Note that the accelerator effect is only possible when travelling from left to right in this example :wink.gif:[/quote]
That's how I do it. 8-)[/quote]
This still works! just stop at step 3 and you will go through the block, but you might take some dmg...
I designed a rail T junction with light signals (may be convenient for dim areas) using those new items. My main purpose was to have a mostly underground design.
I noticed a few tricks :
* Glass can cover dust without hindering the circuit
* Other blocks can be used if :
- The signal is travelling down (cf the area under the switch in the video)
- The signal should be transfered to the track (cf the backside view)
- The signal should be transfered from a red light to another
* A straight line is needed to transfer the signal to the track.
* Red lights serve 2 (3) purposes :
- Power source, if the dust is on the same level or on a higher level than the red light
- Signal inverter (and signal display), if the command line (dust or another red light) is on a lower level than the red light
* Some weirdness : if you drop a red light and some dust with one empty block between them, the dust will be off. If you put dirt between both, the dust will then turn on...
This is very cool! Good job on this, I can see how useful it will be when SMP comes out. Could you possibly show a diagram of how its build, I think I get it but a diagram is always nice.

Also search first there are 9001 threads for this (ok just two but you get the point)

because that sounds cooler
We don't need realistic names in a game where you can punch wool off of sheep.
