I usually make my first mine in the basement of my shelter, and later, I make a whole separate facility, usually in the side of a hill. There are three mineshafts, A, B, and C, and each one is different. A is a large strip mine, with a railway, B is a smaller strip mine, focused on efficiency, and C is tunneling in one direction continuously, which usually ends when I run into a large lava pit.
I opened a door, and the room was dark. I quickly shut it, grabbed a broomstick, and cautiously moved in. I turned on the light, and almost swung at the fan. After realizing what I did, I decided to stop playing Minecraft for the day.
I started in beta 1.8.1 too. I'd say the peak of Minecraft for me was at 1.0.0, because that is when I made my first real survival world, and learned everything. It was the most fun i've ever had in Minecraft.
Nice! I usually prefer to build a one story greenhouse, or an old-fashioned fenced in farm, but that's really cool! You're giving me ideas. Might steal.
Before I made plans for the tower, there was a fenced in farm there. It was good enough for survival, but it was too old compared to the rest of the world. Also, I didn't have room to plant carrots, and Nether wart. The tower saved a lot of space, and increased efficiency. Feel free to use building styles like this! (Don't make an exact replica though.)

Survival is the best by far. There is a challenge, and plenty of fun. Creative mode is nice, but there is no challenge at all. Hardcore mode is kind of pointless. I wouldn't want to delete my world when I die, losing all of that hard work.
I would really like furniture in Minecraft. It is really needed for decorations. All I really want are tables, and chairs. I did find out a way to make a nice looking table though, using flower pots, cacti, and carpets.
Time, Y U NO GO FASTER!? I want this snapshot out now, because I have a chest filled with seven near broken diamond pickaxes. I like to save them, just like I did with my first pickaxe (wooden).
