I found out that ladders are exceptionally useful for making underwater and even undermagma "trenches".
W - water/magma
L - ladder
O - empty block
S - stone etc.
LLL - side view
LLLS - top view
SLS - front view
While they might be largely useless if your submarine systems exist entire of those trenches (easily visible from the surface of water, unless it's REALLY deep like water world superflat), putting such a fragment of a tunnel exposed every now and then (preferably somewhat strategically, ofc) does make for a fishing/observation/escape point.
And if you're cautious and patient enough you can even make tunnels hidden beneath the magma, but I don't know how useful would that be compared to full underground passages.
Just me rambling again, probably.
This is stupid.

No, BrahMastra is saying that the older people are not willing to form clans large enough for warfare, since they can't stand being with the younger players. Frankly this seems a little illogical, since the younger players can just form clans with other younger players, and the older players can form clans with other older players.
Interesting ideas, never knew factions could do that. Still, my concern is that people will just be watching a faction until all of them log out, and so due to the timer, will greif the base right after everyone in the faction has logged out, but the timer hasn't finished.
Another idea that might fix the problem would be to have all blocks be breakable at all times, regardless of if another faction owns them, but only have the server up for a limited, but regular time. This could allow for players from your faction to be able to defend the base at all times to protect the base, while still providing a disincentive to logging out.
I still don't think almost any of these ideas are usefull for Vanilla, or in really any PvP. The underground bases are on the right track, but people will /kill themselves in jail, /spawn, or even tell thier friends your cords. Once your base is empty of people, they will come back, so all your "defences" are worthless, and no, you can't practicly have a guard around the clock. If you want to try these ideas on a real SMP server, try Nagura (look it up on these forums) and start attacking the factions who never read these exept for fun or ideas, never for strategy.
You're the only smart one here.

Not all self-repairing walls require pistons, and I never use pistons in mine. And I think you're thinking a little more individual PvP instead of warfare as discussed in this thread. If you have a decent clan, building such a wall could take less than an hour, and traps like the murder bridge can be useful in certain situations. It's not so unusual to see such an overhang or natural bridge.
Fyi, this thread has been discontinued, and the original AoW by Valerius Maximus was started up again a few months ago. You should go there, as it's much more current and active.
I'm better than you. Strategy is bad.

Where did you hear about us?
I already knew about Semper Novum, but I found my way to this topic because of Voloder's signature.
The reason I'm here of all places is because of the League of Warfare topic (/topic/1051494-league-of-warfare/), where I saw Voloder's name next to Valerius Maximus.
Orsa Novus Ævum
Current Clans: N/A
Why do you want to join Semper Novum?
I have once again become interested in Minecraft PvP and want to experience it one more time. I believe Semper Novum can provide me with such an experience, thus I am applying. Maybe I can make some new friends in the process as well.
Minecraft Experience (Amount of Time Played):
Too much. I've had Minecraft since August, 2010. I do not keep track of the total amount of time I have played, so I can't really provide more information than when I first started playing.
Timezone: GMT +1
Tell us a bit about yourself:
I'm a quiet kind of guy, though that could change depending on the situation. I am usually a nice guy to be around, and in my free time I play games. I've been playing Minecraft the most lately, though I've also been playing League of Legends. I'm finishing school and moving out 1st July, which will mean that I will go dark for a few days(or maybe not).
If you want a description of me as seen by someone else we can take Valerius Maximus' own little description of me, found in the ONA thread(/topic/70028-orsa-novus-%C3%A6vum/)
- iBux, The Loyal, and occasionally sadistic, Genius.
That basically sums me up.
What position would best suit you?
I led the black ops unit while in Orsa Novus Ævum(which basically was the espionage unit; scouting, infiltration, assassination, etc). Therefore I believe I would be best suited for covert operations or similar situations that requires special competence.
Do you have a mic?
Yes, I have a mic, though my headset is broken which means my mic is plugged into my keyboard(it still works just fine). I'm planning to purchase a new headset once money allows it.
I, iBuX, agree that I must be active on the forum board and the TeamSpeak channel or I will be removed from the clan.
Loads of spaghetti.

And if another clan were to rise up and fulfill the standards of the ONA? Would ONA or at least some members come back?
Come back because of someone else, not likely. It's a matter of if Minecraft gets an update that is worth the time of actually logging in, and people being bored of what they're playing right now. Minecraft is just too easy, and we've seen big clans and their threats and it's all old to us. When you take down big clans(20 actives) as 2-3 people who decide to play on a server because they're bored, there is not much else you can accomplish.
Though if you do find a good server, I will be bored enough to at least hop in for a day. I literally looked through 20,000 servers spread out on 5 different server sites in 3-4 weeks and found not one with a good population and no economy/factions mod. If one popped up in the last 4 months, I wouldn't know, but if you PM me the name of it I'll gladly check it out.

Is the ONA still in action? I have seen things saying that your clan is dead, and others saying that you still exist. Which is it?
We exist if playing League of Legends counts. Though, it will never be what it was, and it's disappointing that I only had a fraction of a taste of what it was before it turned into something lesser. Still, met some great people, argued with said great people, and played games for hundreds of hours along side said great people (and the complete asshats, but that was amusing too). The clan is half-dead Minecraft wise simply because of the lack of good servers, and the lack of ambition to actually make another server.
If we were to start up another Minecraft operation, it would probably not be much, because we no longer have any kind of structuring, leading to people being absolutely worthless piles of **** and making me do all the manual labor. It's not completely out of the question though, but no one should count on it or expect it.
Unstoppable force, you say? Perhaps you've forgotten about the time you tried invading a certain someone's home with a full set of enchanted diamond gear, and then fell to little more than a stone pickaxe and a pit full of creepers. Creepers, mind you, which would not have spawned there had you simply walked through the front door rather than flooding the place and knocking all of the torches off of one wall.
Well, to be fair, I liked you and really didn't want to kill you and my hesitation gave you an advantage.

Thank god for that! (The safety, not that you aren't playing anymore...)
I miss you Stonards! And great job running Lavish, I never even suspected. Although I find it hilarious that the time I got you in on trolling those noobs, I messaged you to get ahold of the server, knowing he would see it. XD
I helped, but it was like 5 people. I mostly just dicked around making mob towers, amassing resources with my one clanmate that actually tries (Jalygtra) and banning hackers. In the end, one of our "founders" shut the server down while it was saving over a internal affairs problem(Etherimp, AKA General Whorebreath) and caused corruption problems that combined with the dying, arguing, and imploding clan lead to the server's death as most of our admins were retired Minecraft players from our clan.
Late reply, I know... But I am bored at 6:30 AM, League of Legends is boring and rage inducing, BF3 is less than I expected it to be, Skyrim is boring after 90 hours, and MW3 is a massive pile of ass. I have resorted to browsing forums and playing Tetris. Though, not browsing these forums other than this thread, because the minecraft community is the most autistic and brony saturated community in the world.
