SeaWry posted a message on How Do I Code A Game Like Minecraft? You obviously do not understand how the game world works do ya?Posted in: Computer Science and Technology
One simply cannot go and up make a game, get LWGL and learn how to use it as a java graphics renderer.
Prepare to write over 1 million + lines of code. If i remember the classic minecraft was 2 million + lines of code.
Look for some open source indie games similar to Minecraft or something, there is quite a bit floating out around there, considering it was where Minecraft was born.
"What I do not understand is how the hell do I work game-maker, or unity."
Game maker has no business here.
Mimicking a game isnt going to get any attention really, why would people go with a new game, when they can just mod a current one to match?
Programmers dont do free work, they need a strong interest or some form of salary for their time spent. -

fabiracer12 posted a message on Roads in Minecraft [1000+ Downloads]Posted in: MapsRoads in Minecraft 2.0 has started and will feature cities, more epic roads and much more. Everything you need to know in this new thread, including updates etc. Have Fun
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Hello Minecraft-Community, this is my first post in the English Minecraft-Forum (normally I'm posting in the German forum, so sorry for any written mistakes), but now about the topic:
10 months ago I started my first major project in Minecraft which is bigger than anything I've built before. My idea was to build a massive road network with all important things as road signs, road markings and also different types of roads (e.g. Autobahnen or country roads). But as we all know it is nearly impossible to build realistic roads in Minecraft and that's why I used the RoadWorks mod to make my roads look realistic. I also used the Biomes O' Plenty mod to have a more realistic and diverse landscape.
Enough text now a map from above where you can see all of the roads (right click "open in new tab" to zoom):
Nothing shows better how big the world is than this Video:
Cinematic:
Some pictures:
Download:
Here is the download of my map. You will need some mods and you should follow the install instructions that I've written down in a README. Please never use my map on PUBLIC servers or upload it again without asking me. You can make videos about it but you have to link this thread or my YouTube channel in your description. The following Mods are required:
RoadWorks/LATL: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/1279652-1-7-2-w-thievess-mods-15-000-downloads-update
Biomes O' Plenty: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/1286162-biomes-o-plenty-over-75-new-biomes-plants-and-more
For more pictures and videos on my major project watch the Planetminecraft thread: http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/roads-in-minecraft/
I hope you write criticism and opinions under this thread to show me if you like this project and the idea behind it or if you don't like it.

AMIDST v3.7 Supports 1.2.4 - 1.7.4
( Ad free | Adf.ly ) Windows [Exe]
( Ad free | Adf.ly ) Mac OS X [App]
( Ad free | Adf.ly ) Linux [Jar]
Please note: I am unable to create Mac builds for the moment. I suggest using the Linux version as a Mac user. The current link may be broken.
Previous Changes:3.6
Since there were quite a few, I've grouped them a bit. (Hopefully I don't miss any)
Major Changes:
- AMIDST is now under GPL v3
- Completely reworked the profile selector.
- Added automatic seed histories. If AMIDST detects a "history.txt" file next to it, it will write a time stamp followed by the seed for each seed you enter.
- Added smooth fragment fading. (This may be disabled in the options menu) Enabling this will cause all fragments to fade in when loaded.
- Most crashes now create a "crash dialog" containing a log that can easily be pasted.
- A licenses window has been added to the help menu. This will contain all relevant license information for AMIDST and its libraries.
- Added option to set the default world type to any of the world types or "prompt each time".
- Switching maps no longer eats up extra memory. (This will be a huge improvement in memory/processing performance when loading new maps)
- Rendering speeds have been vastly improved.
- Fixed issue where files would not be properly closed.
Minor Changes/Fixes:
- Hidden files/folders now show when opening a world from a file/folder.
- Added 1.7.4 to official version list.
- A new option is availible in the Options menu called "Show Debug Info". Enabling this will add a small panel to the map viewer containing debug information on fragments.
- Library loading now follows OS rules correctly. (This should fix a number of errors with loading)
- AMIDST now returns "4" on crashes. This will change at a later date to include various error codes.
- Mac OS X users should no longer experience the "corrupted" issue.
Command Line Support:
- Added a "-mcpath " flag for users to specify the path to their .minecraft directory.
- Added "-log " flag. Using this flag will cause AMIDST to write all log output to the specified file. AMIDST should create a file if it does not exist.
- Added "-history " to specify where AMIDST should write seed history to. If AMIDST cannot find a file at the path you've specified, it will attempt to make one.
Biome Color Profiles:
Overview: This was something that was added in 3.5, but I've improved on a bit for 3.6. Color profiles let you set what color each biome shows up as. To activate them, simply create a folder named "biome" next to AMIDST. After launching AMIDST again, a new file should appear in that folder called "default.js". It will contain the default options for a color profile. You may edit this directly, or create new color profiles within the folder (following the same design as default.js). Any subdirectories will show up as sub-menus. (There is also support for shortcuts, as mentioned in this post)
- Added support for biome nicknames. (Example: [ "Ice Plains", { "alias":"Really cold place", "r":255, "g":255, "b":255 } ] )
- Duplicate biome colors are now supported.
- default.json is not much cleaner.
- Biome profiles no longer cause an empty profile list when there's a syntax error.
- A new menu option for reloading your list of biome color profiles has been added.
3.5
- Fixed issue where some Mac OS X users would not have their window refresh.
- Fixed loading from amplified worlds.
- Fixed the map jumping around when a menu was opened.
- Selecting the default profile will now attempt to load 1.7.2.
- Adjusted the organization of some menus.
- Added 1.7.2 to official version list.
- AMIDST will now only load the libraries specified by the selected version.
- Added support for biome color profiles. An explanation of this will later be added to the wiki. Until then, please use check the latest forums posts or ask around.
- Basic wiki page added to BitBucket here.
- Mac OS X version now launches with extra memory.
3.4
- Added support for 13w39a/b
- AMIDST now loads all libraries contained in the .minecraft/libraries folder.
- Greatly reduced the file size for AMIDST.
3.3
- Increased performance for filling in image data.
- Slightly reduce memory usage for structure generation.
- Added official support for 13w37b.
- Reduced memory usage from grid layer.
- Increased performance for drawing biome layer.
- Added FPS counter.
- Improved detection of multiplayer maps.
- Major performance improvements for zoomed out maps.
- Added spawn location icon.
- Added option to toggle framerate panel in the menus.
- Added official support for 13w38a/1.6.4.
- (Default) now selects 1.6.4Older versions
All versions of AMIDST 3+ are available for download at: https://github.com/s...AMIDST/releases

Rumsey posted a message on Crafting AzerothPosted in: Screenshots[Update] Dec. 24th, 2013:
Crafting Azeroth version 1.0 has been released!
Download Now: CraftingAzeroth-v1.0-release.torrent (6.8 GB)
Crafting Azeroth v1.0 includes over twice the content of the original beta version, including the new continents of Outland, Northrend and the Great Sea, in addition to the original continents of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms. Additionally, many zones that first appeared in the beta version have been re-generated using newly added blocks and features. To learn more about v1.0, you can view screenshots in the updated image gallery, read the included readme file, or explore the interactive map in your browser.
[Update] Jan. 23rd, 2014:
There is a nice Mac OS X installation guide Link Removed. Thanks Joshua Reeves!
May. 17th, 2014:
Someone asked me to modify CA-Static and CA-Teleport so they would only affect the Crafting Azeroth map, so I made a separate version of both plugins that checks the world name before applying any changes. You can download them here and here.
About this project:
The Crafting Azeroth project is a full-scale reproduction of the World of Warcraft environment for Minecraft. The creation of the map is heavily automated, assisted by custom software that I have developed. The best way to explore the map is inside Minecraft, but you can also view the map in your browser by clicking the link below:
Screenshots of the map can be seen in the following galleries, including all new screenshots of Outland and Northrend. If you are unfamiliar with World of Warcraft, the "Before and After" gallery will show comparison screenshots between World of Warcraft and Minecraft:
Additional information about the map and many older screenshots are available in this this archived post.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
Q. How does the conversion process work?
A. Custom software converts the continents of World of Warcraft into Minecraft blocks using a process known as voxelization. This software converts everything in the game, including all the buildings and natural details, down to the individual tree stump. Once the parameters for the software have been set, the conversion process takes approximately 48 hours and requires no human intervention.
Prior to the conversion process, I needed to match textures from World of Warcraft to the appropriate material in Minecraft. For example, an object with a wooden texture might be converted into wooden planks, while an object with a mossy texture might be converted into mossy cobblestone. I created a special software tool to help perform this assignment, but selecting materials for all 10,000+ textures in the game still required many hours of work.
Q. How large is the world?
A. The current version of the map spans approximately 500 square kilometers and contains over 100 billion blocks. The highest part of the world, the peak of Mt. Hyjal, stands more than a kilometer above sea level. Since the map exceeds the Minecraft height limit, the world had to be divided into seven altitude layers, each connected via a server-side plugin that Link Removed as they approach the height limit. To be played locally, the map requires 22 gigabytes of available hard-drive space.
Q. Does the world include underground areas, like dungeons and caves?
A. Yes, the map includes all caves and dungeons that are not part of a separate instance. So, areas like Blackrock Mountain are freely accessible, but dungeons like Blackrock Depths or Molten Core are not. The map also includes many randomly generated caves similar to those found in Minecraft.
Q. Do you plan to convert any other zones, such as Pandaria?
A. Yes, work has already started on Pandaria, but it will take a bit more time before the zone is ready to be released. The conversion process can also be used on dungeons and battlegrounds, so they may appear at a later date, but they are not top priority right now.
Q. Where can I download a copy of the map?
A. The full map is available to download right now, just click the BitTorrent link at the top of this post, or download from this mirror. If you don't want to download the map to your computer, you can explore a read-only version of the map by adding wow.cursecraft.com to your in-game server listing.
(new) Q. I downloaded the map, but now I'm stuck in Outland. What do I do?
A. Entering the Dark Portal in Hellfire Peninsula should return you to the Blasted Lands in Azeroth, just as it does in World of Warcraft. If the portal takes you to the Nether instead, you may not be using the correct plugins. Check the readme file for instructions on how to download and install a Bukkit server with the required plugins. The readme also lists some useful /tp commands for teleporting to key locations.
(new) Q. The game runs really slow when I'm near a jungle. How can I fix this?
A. There are two important things you can do. First, set your graphics in Minecraft to "fast", so that leaf blocks are opaque rather than transparent. Second, make sure that you are running the map on a Bukkit server with CA-Static-1.0 plugin correctly installed. Doing both of these things will greatly improve performance in large jungles and forests and should also help preserve the map from damage.
(new) Q. Can your software convert games other than WoW?
A. The same technique could be used on other games, but it would require a tremendous amount of additional work. The converter would need to be adapted to handle different file formats and then specially configured for the new data set. This is a very time-consuming and technically challenging process, so I have no plans to use the software to convert other games.
Q. Who is involved in this project?
A. The conversion software for this project was developed by Rumsey (RamsesA). Hosting support for the Minecraft server is provided by Cursecraft, and in particular Martin Benjamins (Marlamin), who helps manage the server directly. The mapping software used to generate the Google Maps view of the project was developed by the Minecraft Overviewer team.
For a more detailed list of credits, please consult the readme file. Special thanks also goes to Alan J. Lee for offering to redirect the craftingazeroth.com domain to this page.
Q. Who can I contact if I have more questions?
A. In addition to posting here, you can contact me via [email protected] or Twitter, or send a private message through this website. If I do not respond right away, check if it's something covered in the readme or this FAQ.

I can see why people would think that. Especially if they think of chicken wings instead of chicken nuggets like what I think you were aiming for.
1
As much as you think an internet relationship may be a relationship while you're a teenager, you'll look back on those days later on life and wonder "what was I thinking?". Take it from someone who grew up in the days of AOL Instant Messenger and online chatrooms before Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/MySpace even existed, and just don't bother. If you really care about someone and want to pursue anything more than a "pen pal" friendship, make sure you regularly see eachother in person. It's so easy to pretend to be someone that you're not when you're never communicating face to face.
2
Back when I was a kid in the 1990s, the internet hadn't even come out yet. Cell phones were the size of toasters, cost as much as an old car, and could only make voice calls. Email was something parents could only do at work and texting wasn't even thought up yet. Televisions only had 8 channels.
It's kind of funny to hear people being so bored when their technology breaks when we didn't even have it in the first place :P. Do what we used to do and go for a walk, find some dirt trails to explore, ride a bike, go swimming, read a book, draw a picture, play some board games, build a LEGO city, etc.
2
They can be absolutely huge, and I think they always have a portal room. Sometimes mineshafts and ravines cut through them, and sometimes parts of them can do almost down to bedrock. Here's someone else's screenshot of a stronghold with the ground around it removed:
I once completely disassembled a stronghold and ended up with at least a large chest of
cracked stone bricks, another large chest of
mossy stone bricks, and I think even more than a large chest of
regular stone bricks, plus a ton of other things. I ended up with empty cube-shaped rooms underground that were absolutely massive.
1
It's not that bad. I've been running my internet Minecraft server and local media server on wireless for 2 and a half years now. I was going to put in CAT6 down through the walls, but decided that wireless was just easier. Haven't had a single issue with it all this time. The wireless connection is much faster than the internet connection (as it would be for just about anyone), so it's not going to be a bottleneck.
2
2
So basically, a bunch of bug fixes, and beacons now work in the nether?
2
And perhaps some lava lamps, black lights, and a boom box.

Oil was about the same price as it is now back in 2008, so I don't think that is solely responsible. It probably has more to do with the poor economy in the past few years, which resulted in an increased need for efficiency. Now we might have more supply than we need, partly because of the increased efficiency, partly because we've started collecting oil within the country, and partly because of global wars and now we have cut enemies off from using allied oil supplies. Too many reasons to describe it simply. Just be glad that it's cheap.
