Well it's an interesting thing. As you can't come back to the normal world without dying which means you can't bring anything back it would be pointless to have special blocks or items there. I think The End will contain challenges instead like bosses or so, unlocking content in the normal world too. There's huge potential in this and will most certainly be taken advantage of.
The only thing that makes me feel bad is the deadline. According to the current state of the game it's kind of pointless to create deadlines and - again - rush things just to be able to call it "1.0". They rather postpone the full game release until they REALLY finish adding content and bugfixes. There are still no bosses and much more bugs than what a 30 day bugfixing could cover. But well... we'll see.

i hope they make the nether and the end as compelling as scokeev9's nethercraft mod made the nether.

"Notch's Take on the new baby animals:
The idea with the baby animals is to alter the original models to make them act as new ones. This scales well. Say we want to do old animals or robot animals or whatever in the future. By having it be mutators to the original models, we can add a new animal by just adding a single new model instead of adding four (or whatever) new ones. And even better, to introduce a brand new variant of animals, we don't need to go through them all and add that variant"

so like how Spore does it. i think minecraft needs more simulation based gameplay like spore and sims, but just using mutators was not what i had in mind.

You could have them spawn in humongous underground caverns in the overworld. A bit like 'journey to the centre of the earth.' The caverns could be lit with glowstone or something, and have huge jungles and the like growing in em.

Or you could just go back in time, which is equally cool.

Either way, GL with the modding (:

Also, wasn't quatzalcoatl an aztec god? Was the dinosaur named after the god or coincidence or what?

Also, Ictheosaurs or however its spelt, for the sea :biggrin.gif:

this should clear up pteranodons and more specifically quetzalcoatlus

Well, the movie name "Jurassic Park" was just an idea by one of the movie's makes, and not a very good idea anyway, because neither the T-Rex nor the Velociraptor lived in the jurassic.
The book by Michael Crichton, the "inventor" of Jurassic Park was also originally called "DinoPark".
So I think with saying "Jurassic", most of the peope (including me) don't refer to the period, but to all that Jurassic Park Dinosaur stuff, which is originally Dino Park stuff (Jurassic was, how I already mentioned, not intended by the autor afaik).

yeah. eurypterids are definitely not from that era, but i wasn't bitchin'. but i would love a all pre cambrian, cambrian, and devonian period mops. no sheep, no cows, just precambrian, cambrian, and devonian animals. creepers, ghasts, and slimes can stay. then add in zombie.... something. zombie brontoscorpio, idk? i'm rambling... i'll go now.

No! Not my azaleas! I love this idea, maybe you could make the ground raise a bit over their trails? Kind of like that one boss from Mario Galaxy.
And if you mine the above ground trail it could just give you dirt?

half block dirt trail would be good.

i thought of a mole a while ago. it really would have been my 1st idea for an animal in a mining game, way before cows and sheep.

of course i want it to dig dirt blocks. because i usually just use dirt for houses making wood and higher materials useless. this kinda makes you want to upgrade your house to mole proof it.
and a yes on the eating plants from below. not trees or mushrooms though.

also, can i get a giant earthworm already notch?!

You can look at the fire files in my texture pack to give you an idea if you like.
After you have made the two files:

    custom_fire_e_w.png
    custom_fire_n_s.png

Just put them straight into the zip as you would the terrain.png. You will need MCPatcher to use custom fire.
Torch fire is in a seperate file which already exists called particles.png.

okay, so shoot me a link to your pack. i've been looking through the texture packs i have (hell yeah high definition animal crossing pack!) and seeing how animations work. my goal is green fire. next i'll learn about that lighting sheet i see in the painterly pack download. with that figured out my green fire will have green light!

Yes each of the two pngs are layered out like the lava and on one sheet each.

If your pack is 16x make the fire 16 pixels wide, if it is a 32x pack make it 32 pixels wide etc.

It can be as long as you like, aslong as the total length is divisible by it's width. The longer the file the slower the animation. :smile.gif:

oh lord. i'm visual. so images (even drawn) would help. so i do have to have one sheet with all the fire animations on it like how lava is side by side or 'rpgmaker' sprites are side by side animation on one sheet? or is this several separate 16x16 pieces?

also how many fire animations squares do i need? does this include the torch fire?

and then... how do i get it in game?

I am having texture pack-block i was thinking about making a star trek the next generation/voyager texture pack or does anyone else have an idea i am thinking of some kind of sci-fi theme any got any ideas i really need some help and input on this thanks

i like 'farscape', 'firefly' and 'stargate sg-1'. but when it comes to aliens i prefer non humanoid aliens. a true outer space alien would have no resemblance to most earth life forms.

anyways. what i'm saying is check out those shows for inspiration and look up realistic alien art if you really need that, but i doubt you will. wayne barlowe is one of the best. but even deviantart has some good ones. http://www.google.com/search?q=Wayne Barlowe aliens&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1280&bih=893

That was awfully blunt, wasn't it?
I've seen far worse texture packs. Anyway, when taking screenshots, try staying in fancy mode. I dislike the sides of grass blocks not matching the rest. And try making the blocks and sky look more eerie. Gives more feel to it. Otherwise, it's decent.

wait... we can edit sky color? hows? is it in the terrain.png?
