Sep 11, 2013I dont like the gravel, its useless for me, and ugly, no practical uses at all. Sometimes I use it to fill some lava pool and see if there is something under that lava, but thats not really fun to do. Why only gravel? why not sand, and clay, and stone, dirt. I dont know... just gravel? whatever... I probably never going to be in the bottom of the ocean anywayPosted in: Recent Updates and Snapshots

Jul 23, 2012clayxros posted a message on Aesthetic Mobs: Adding Atmosphere to Minecraft (Official Thread)Posted in: SuggestionsMAJOR UPDATE!!!!I'm planning on performing an overhaul on the Topic Post for this thread. Any pictures I could include in the overhaul would really be appreciated! I'd also like a banner, of someone would like to take the time to make one. And of course any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. that is all for now.
Aesthetic Mobs: Why?Have you ever been exploring a Jungle, wandering through, fighting your way through the brush, but suddenly noticed that something was just missing? Or walking along a road to a NPC Village on a nice day, then stopping and wondering why it seems so dull? Well, you may be wishing and wondering about the little insects and birds that we normally take for granted in Real Life. Because they are not in Minecraft, it seems dull after awile, perhaps empty even. What I propose? We add Aesthetic Mobs to Minecraft! Mobs that, like the birds and bugs in Real Life, don't really affect us besides contributing to the scenary and natural rhythm.
Aesthetic Mobs: What are they exactly? They are mobs that you can see and hear, but not really interact with, like rain and snow in-game. How would they be implemented? I can see a few ways. One way is their simply pixles found in certain areas and certain entities, like butterflys around flowers or mosquitos around your head. Another is that they are actual mobs that are small and don't really affect you. Ideas on how they can be implemented are always welcome. And for you critics that think that this would be too tough to add, they added Aesthetic Bats in Pretty Scary Update. So no, it isn't.
What Mobs are there so far?As in what mobs are wanted for abience. Here's a list of mobs so far, many from contributers to the original post.Depending on the specific mob your thinking of, it could be either particles or an entity. Ex: Crabs would be entities, and Will-o-the-Wisps would be particles.
Jungle/Swamp Biomes: Frogs/Tree frogs (on lillypads or in trees, croaks, jumps into water with a "Bloop" if a player comes too close), Will-o-The-Wisp(mainly in swamps, rare in jungles. They will follow you if you move away, and move away if you go near them.)
Prairie Biomes: Butterflys (flying around flowers/from one flower to the next)
Forest Biomes(frozen ones as well): Leaves falling (not a mob, but worth mentioning, not in cold biomes) Owls(at night in normal forest, Snow Owls are out at all times in cold forest)
Beach/Ocean Biomes: Crabs (on sand, in or next to water), Schools of Fish (anywhere in any biome, in water, most often out in the ocean biome or deep lakes. Never shallow ponds/lakes), sound of waves.
Desert: Scarab Beetles (Rare, found somewhat more commonly near Pyramids), Dragonflys (Only around an Oasis, A.K.A. water in the desert. Around Desert Wells also)
Most/All Biomes: Firelfies (at night, lets off lvl 1-3 light. Not in Desert, Ocean, or cold Biomes), Birds (Hopping along the ground or in trees, depending on the biome. They may chirp or fly away when player is near.), Crikets (In all Biomes except Ocean, Beach, Desert, and cold biomes. They sing their little tune, just like in summer. Only at night). Waterfall(sound effect where a "waterfall" is), Spiders (tiny, harmless ones crawling around Strongholds), water drop sounds(Drip, drip, drip, in caves)
Nether: Fire Sprits (small fire things made of fire that fly around at medium-slow speed)
End: Purple Eyes that float around you. Staring at your soul.
Debatable mobs:These are ones that have been suggested, but I'm not sure about adding.Squirrels, Rabbits, Racoons, Dung Beetles, Scorpions, Lizards, Seagulls, Egrets, Mice, Roaches, Salamnders, Magma Slugs/Snails, Ash People, Mosquitos.
Oh yay, useless Mobs.Aesthetic Mobs would be for atmosphere, like how darkness in caves makes things look eerie and dangerous. Plus thaey just added bats, the first purely aesthetic mob in minecraft, which people love.
Credit to: These are people who submitted a great idea on the original thread. (Sorry if I forgot you)kingzut(frogs sound, Croak and "bloop")theepicmeh(fireflys in bottles idea)CreeperAro(fish in water, crikets, tiny spiders)squirrelboy(semi-mob idea. Semi-mob=particle you can utilize)otafraid(mosquitos around your head in Jungles, lizards, salamanders, owls)Fabianzzz(treefrogs, rabbits, squirrels, racoons, dung beetles, scorpions)peterdetmig(birds chriping)rattleshirt(seagulls, egrets, mice, roaches)shadow1310(reminding me about the noises. )Charlie2531games(Scarbs by pyramids, leaves falling, mosquito areas of appearence)ScrooLewse(final convincing argument to rewrite this thread, crabs, sound of waves, bats, fire sprites, magma slugs and snails, ash people, purple eyes in End)AnonTheMouse(will-o-the-wisps)
Special Mention: pickaxe727minecarFor offering and attempting to make this a Mod. He stopped, but he still deserves an honorable mention.
If you have any suggestions, comment. Most of these were suggested. Also, I'd really appreciate any pictures and ideas people could submit regarding this topic. I've jsut realized now that visual aids would help this thread pick up momentum again. (I'm really slow, aren't I? XD)

550 Downloads! Pretty nice! The most downloaded is the 512X512 template, and the least one is the All-in-One pack. Thanks for all the support guys! I'll start updating it to 1.8 and creating the full template one day after 1.8 is launched (probably 09/13/2011).
Woah, 2467 downloads already! And I didn't even updated it to 1.8 or 1.9... I'm working as quick as possible guys, I can't use PC all day, so I can't be faster... sorreh... will be released eventually!
Many thanks for the feedback!
I decided to already update it to 1.9 without finishing everything. The post is much beautiful now and now the terrain.png and items.png are updated to 1.9! There's just some more stuff to release, like the mobs... they'll be done as quick as possible!
After some time without any update, I updated the terrain.png and items.png to 1.9pre 4! :biggrin.gif: Also, corrected some typos on the topic and added the option to download .png files instead of .psd files, attending to requests!
Lastly, I added the link to download the paint.net plugin so you guys stop asking how to open it with paint.net... :tongue.gif:
WOAH, long time no updates, huh? Basically, I was lazy as hell. But I updated all the finished stuff to 1.0.0, and I'm REALLY creating the mobs and the rest right now as you read this ****. So just wait some more...Update 11/29/2011
Please, consider giving me some feedback, and thanks for downloading!
