A cherub... right. Making them rare does not make them balanced. Having a mob which essentially heals you for free... is overpowered. Also, having a cooldown is illogical; why would the cherub be counting seconds to heal you?

In Minecraft, you heal for free just by standing around.

I don't know, one can explain a cooldown in a lot of different ways. I didn't want to complicate the model with a bow, but maybe that's how long it takes for the cherub to draw and pull another arrow. I mean, it can't possibly have a great deal of arm strength. In fact, I'd have a harder time justifying a machine-gun cherub that shoots constantly.

I actually see this as pointless and expensive. I'd rather I make a bridge out of dirt rather than to waste a Nether Star on this.
    No support.

Fine you make your bridge out of dirt and spend an hour to get a few hundred blocks out from the End Island. Meanwhile I'm going to be balling in my void boat thousands of blocks away.

    posted a message on Cherub
The cherub is a passive mob that lives in the sky and shoots beneficial effects at the player. I got the idea when I was reading this thread, but I thought that cherubs would be too different to continue the discussion over there.

Edit: Thanks to everyone for adding ideas and suggestions. Updates to this thread are in Goldenrod.

The cherub has no attacks. The cherub's code can detect when the player or a passive mob is injured, and the cherub shoots healing effects at any injured mob that it detects within range (cherubs can see 24 blocks). Cherubs heal villagers first, then iron golems, then other cherubs, then players, then animals. A cherub's effects last 8 seconds, and there is a 16-second cooldown. The healing effect is based on the Regeneration potion effect, which grants 1 HP/2.5 seconds.

A cherub can't fly, but it doesn't take falling damage either.

Iron golems defend cherubs as if they were villagers. Zombies eat cherubs. Cherubs are slow, but they try to get away from zombies if they can. Cherubs don't drop loot or experience orbs. Killing a cherub angers iron golems, but the cherubs themselves don't care about being killed. You can't put a lead on a cherub.

Cherubs have a tiny chance to spawn if there is land above cloud level, or y=128. If a new villager is born at that height, the new villager has a chance of being a cherub.

The cherub has 8 HP, which is equivalent to 4 hearts.

You can't get close enough to the void to place something on top of it without falling in while in the End.

Uh, that's not really my department, but there's a simple solution. Instead of "on top of the void" the void lily can be coded to be placed at y=0 or whatever.
    Quote from 113820

Wouldn`t you fall into the void when you get out of the void boat? half-support

That's true, I didn't really think about that. But now that I am thinking about it, haven't all the Minecraft players in the world been complaining about the horrible mechanics of getting out of a boat/minecart? Fix that and you fix this problem too.

Im not missing anything, the void boat can still be replaced by a cheap dirt bridge or even flying in creative mode, ther is no reason for the void boat or lilly to exist

A much faster, funner way to get to a new place in the End, should count as a reason. If you don't like it for other reasons, that's fine, but it clearly has an application. I wouldn't have thought of it in the first place if I hadn't gotten a bit tired of bridging around in the End and wished that I had a faster way to get to new islands.

ok but like I said why would i want to craft a void lilly when i can do the same with a much cheaper material?

I think you must have missed the part about the void boat. You have to use a void boat to get out to some point where you want to start a new island.

    Quote from AdultGamer

The recent set of Postings have mentioned "Detecting Landmasses while traveling on Oceans".

That feature already exists...At least in Demo 1.6.2 and in Demo 1.7.2.

While boating on any body of water in Minecraft, if you look at the Water Blocks near the Horizon, you will see different shades of blue materializing in the water. These are Ocean Floor Features that form into Landmasses such as Islands and Continents as you get closer to them.

Wikipedia tells me that the horizon at sea is 4,650 blocks away. I think a big problem with Minecraft oceans is that you can be 200 meters away from a giant continent and not even know it. One thing I'd really like is a truncated version of world generation that extends 10,000 blocks in all directions. Something like the 2-dimensional Amidst map, only showing the biomes.

The void is intangible (im not sure if that is an actual word) which means it can not be touched, the void id the end of the world you are not supossed to go there, whats the point of an expensive item when you can just make a stone bridge and build your floating islands?

Did you notice your contradiction? If you can build a bridge to it, then it's not forbidden, is it? Anyways, the point is the same point as so many other items in the game: you work a little harder to make a more elaborate item, and you get to do something faster. Take notes, because that's the basic recipe for a successful suggestion.

2000 posts, not one good suggestion. Hey guys, remember PISTONIUM!?
This is kinda vague and pointless. Why would I want to sail the void? Go sail the void in creative.
    I give this suggestion a:

I appreciate that you're trying to be constructive, but this is anything but vague. It says exactly what it is and what it does. What other possible clarification could you need? Seriously, I don't mind editing an OP if it needs more detail.

And as to the point, it has a point. If you don't want to play with new islands in the End, that's fine. This is for in case anyone wants to do something fun in the End (because there's pretty much nothing fun to do there right now). I'm sorry if you hate having fun.

Very expensive item that enables to let one place a block in void is cool. But how to designate the point in 3d?

You mean how would I code it? I'd just have the game place the block about arm's length from the player's current location, in the direction that the player is facing.

    Quote from Badprenup

This is way too expensive for something that can be accomplished already in some sense. You may not be able to place a block directly on the Void but you can lay down water and swim down that to make a pillar of you material of choice to the void, then make a platform from there. And the Void boat is just silly seeing how the Void Lily is pointless.

Maybe I didn't explain it good enough. There's a couple of things you can do with a void lily and void boat combination. If you have a void lily on your bar while you're doing perilous work in the End, you might be able to save yourself from falling out of the world. The void boat/void lily combo also allows you to sail off quite a distance from the main End island, and start a new build from scratch, something you could never do with just water.

However, everyone is saying "add content, do this, do that" I want to see a list of appropriate ideas THAT WOULD ACTUALLY WORK and mesh well with the current gameplay and attitude of Mojang and Minecraft to make the larger oceans work.

    Note: Ocean in survival, theres:
A: No land to stop and rest
B: limited attachment to build unless you're near the shore or can reach the bottom
and C: Little to no resources available to you

EDIT: And don't say "I want a pirate ship!" and then post your comment. Explain how it would work and why it fits in Minecraft.

Right - hopefully now you see why your similar arguments are meaningless.

What? My arguments are 100% meaningful and consistent. Oceans were a thing in the game. Players could go to the oceans if they wanted, or not go to the oceans if they didn't want. Mojang took oceans out, removing the choice for players who might have wanted to go to oceans, and changing nothing for the people who didn't like oceans.

No, you could not, unless you constrained yourself to one continent & ignored mooshroom.

You couldn't avoid them, "unless" you did.
