Jan 6, 2015OP means OverPowered and SMP means Survival MultiPlayer (So a server). A mod would be overpowered if it gave a player a sword that could kill everything in one hit made from dirt. Generally people don't care about a mod being OP when they're playing by themselves but if you're playing with a bunch of people everything you give people easy access too can drastically affect the game. Basically your mod as it is right now can make a chest full of diamonds for a small amount of dirt and stone. It's actually faster to create resources with your mod than it is with creative mode.Posted in: Minecraft Mods
On a side note if you made the number of walls between the towers of an instaCastle configurable, you'd make it so the size of the base could be customizable. I'll spend some time later coming up with a bullet list of config options that would greatly increase the utility of your mod.
Edit: Sorry realized I could have explained what overpowered means better. Basically a mod is overpowered if it does something so powerful that it breaks the balance of the game. Most modders rely on the vanilla games balance to figure out how strong the stuff in their mod should be. For example a diamond sword does 8 damage. If a modder wanted to make a stronger sword that sword should be harder to get then a diamond sword. Some mods add their own mobs with tons of health and then their own weapons that do tons of damage to balance out the health. This breaks the balance because their swords aren't balanced around minecraft swords and mods health, they're balanced around the mod itself.
Your mod gives you diamonds and other resources far easier then they are suppose to be obtainable. Some mods rely on the rarity of items to set their balance. Being OP isn't a bad thing because some people are looking for that but making your mod configurable to restore balance will make a lot more people happy and thus make your mod more popular.
Jan 5, 2015This mod is a cool idea but I can see why someone would complain about it being OP. Maybe you should add more config options to turn things off. Like what spawns in the chests, the beacon on top, the rails spawning in the base, or the crafting recipe to make it a creative only item for people running a server.Posted in: Minecraft Mods
Edit: Actually after playing with the mod a bit you should probably add a config option to turn off all generation but the stone bricks (maybe the ladders too). Also an option to turn off the basement levels entirely. This will make it so people who just want to use it for easy base building can without breaking SMP. Personally I would find it useful for starting up bases on a PvP server but giving people free diamonds is to OP for that.
