Yes, but you do realize that if you make the power-per-bolt, then they'd have to stand outside in the rain for quite a long time. And yes, I'm quite aware of how much lightning they get <.< I'm very fond of a movement spell which includes haste, telekinesis (To prevent fall damage), and jump boost. I regret spamming that spell every time it rains.
Telekinesis prevents fall damage? I thought it just attracted items to you. I have two haste/leap spells, one with slowfall and one without. Being able to skip the slowfall part entirely would be quite handy, as it's a lot slower for overland travel.
Why not have a lightning rod device that generates essence/power when struck by lightning?
I did consider suggesting that, but it'd be a little overpowered for lightning mages. I'm not sure you realize just how much lightning they can call down upon themselves just by standing outside in the rain.
Teamspeak works fine, and that's all you really need. There's also a couple programs that are out there for maps, gametable comes to mind, and sites for it, like rolld20. Tabletop sim is probably what I'm going to use in the future for dnd, just a little pricy at 15 bucks, gonna grab a 4 pack when it goes on sale.
Maptools is my personal favourite. Requires a VPN to use over the internet, but that's not hard to set up, and it's far more feature complete than Roll20 is IMO
I admit though, I still haven't played the tabletop in a traditional setting, but that would be fun to do at some point. Who's up for a game?
Count me in! I'm no stranger to playing tabletop RPGs over the internet with systems like MapTools or Roll20 if that's what you're looking for. If you were hoping to play on an actual, physical tabletop, then i'm probably more than a little out of range.
I can't load the crafting altar with essence. I right click the source block of the essence (a battery) with a crystal wrench and the light pillar shoots out, then I right click the middle top block of the crafting altar and the lightpillar dissapears. But every time i try to use essence it just doesn't work. Some times it won't even connect.
Assigning things for a mana battery to charge with the crystal wrench currently seems to be bugged. I reported it earlier. that said, if you break the altar block and replace it while there is a mana battery in range, the altar will default to using it as it's power source. Just remember to hit the lever when it asks for essence.
So, suggestion. Would it be possible to implement a Sigil of Lightning Attraction, or something to that nature? I love playing a lightning mage, and I love the tension that comes from stepping outside while it's raining resulting in up to three lightning bolts a second. The only problem is that I like to build houses/wizard towers that look like this: . Lightning seems to completely ignore any transparent blocks, including magic walls, which means that if I step out from under the (hastily added) quartz canopy, I instantly get pummelled by lightning. I really don't want to have to do the equivalent of boarding up the tower's windows to accomodate for it, as I like how it looks, and several other players beside me use it too. To that end, i'd love it if it were possible to build a lightning rod-esque device which attracts lightning to itself rather than hitting the player within a certain radius. You could make it fairly expensive to prevent the player from just littering them everywhere, and it would mean that a lightning mage could have a lot more options regarding where they want to live. Also, having lightning continuously striking rods around your house would look undeniably badass.
Hi Mithion! Discovered you'd released AM2 a few days ago, and me and my siblings have been playing it solidly ever since. Really loving what you've done with it, and really excited about the upcoming update.
One question that i'm not sure is a bug or not, seeing as i've had the same problem since AM1 and never thought to mention it. I have a lot of trouble getting devices to charge from mana batteries. Using the crystal wrench on a battery and then on a target never seems to work (though the inverse does work if you're wanting to charge it). So far, the only way i've found to get devices to reliably use batteries is to place the battery out of range of any other power source, and then place the device next to it, so that the battery is the only power source in range and it automatically feeds from it. This is all without a redstone current applied, as from what I understand that's only used when charging the battery, not discharging it. Am I misunderstanding how they're supposed to work, or is this a bug?
Are there no options at all for those who don't want to make a Facebook account as far as getting the donation bonuses? It seems like a pretty crappy requirement to have, especially when you could just use a free email address for the same purpose...
Well, I seem to have inadvertently discovered the ultimate defensive enchantment.
First, a bit of background.
I have a friend who just recently started playing minecraft, and as such is somewhat, shall we say, survival-challenged. He is constantly dying in new and interesting ways (such as, recently, blinking into a lava pool), to the point where we are getting reluctant to give him much in the way of equipment.
So, I figured, let's give him some training wheels!
I made some Practitioner's armor, and enchanted it with Imbue Armor II, which I then imbued with Recall.
"Brilliant!" I thought. "Any time he takes any damage at all, he'll be instantly teleported to the safety of his mark! Not only will he learn to avoid taking damage due to how annoying it will be, but we can give him equipment without fear of losing it!"
So, I decided to take it for a test drive. I put on the armor, ran outside, and got hit by a zombie. The zombie disappeared.
"Huh." I thought. "You don't think..."
I ran back inside the house to where I had set my mark spell, and sure enough, the zombie was there.
After dispatching the zombie, the implications of this development hit me. I made a pool of lava, set my mark above it, and ran out to find another zombie. I ran into a skeleton instead. It shot me, disappeared, and I heard the distinctive sound of a skeleton burning up in lava.
I could be wrong, but I think that I may now be almost totally invincible, as long as I stay out of the Nether or End...
I'm guessing the Recall spell has been misclassified as an Offensive spell, so the Imbue Armor enchantment is hitting enemies with it rather than self-casting, making it ridiculously OP.
Just a very minor note, but regarding the affinity bonus for the Earth mage, it seems to me like an Earth mage would be the very last person on earth who would benefit from an increase in mining speed...
Just want to say, a great mod, but I feel the latest world gen has been a bit borked. Spawning tree huts in the middle of the ocean, in a rectangle island does look a bit rather silly. Spawning grand towers in the nether, so large it breaks through the bedrock ceiling... allowing players to roam the upper "void" freely
Secondly, the whole Magic walls. I feel that perhaps instead, have various Protection blocks, that will only generate magic walls if only certain blocks are destroyed, instead of -all- blocks. Things like spider webs and ladders shouldn't make a magic wall, preventing a player from ever escaping the tower because they accidently broke a block they put down, or one that was passable before. playing on a LAN server, this has caused alot of problems for some of the players... granted it was their own stupidity, but still... it's a bit of a nuisance to fix for them.
Um, it sounds like you're using an older version. Most of those issues are fixed or rendered irrelevant in the latest version.
so all of those buildings that i cant break. what am i doing with them o.O how will i get past the book shelves and up the tower in that one building
You need either the True Sight or Blink spells. All towers can be at least partially looted without them, but you need one of those spells to access the rest in some towers.
I dont know if this was mentioned before, but with the latest version "Conjure the sturdy vine" is no longer working.
Have you tried removing it from the spellbook? There are a few spells which aren't properly casting from the spellbook, and this could be another case of that.

Go to AM_Main.cfg under .minecraft/configs/ArsMagica, and find these entries:
B:Death_AffinityLoss=true
I:Death_Mana_Levels_Lost=5
Change them to whatever you want.
