posted a message on 1.10.2 display shelves please

Hey there! I'm looking to start a series called Solis_Nova's modding workshop where I code simple mods that people request. It's a way for me to practice programming and I'm looking for new challenges. If you're still looking for something like this, send me a PM or reply to this. I'd like to give it a try.

This mod is pretty simple, I've done something like this before. The annoying part is getting the items to rotate with the block to rotate based on north, south, east, and west, but anything else is easy to do.

posted a message on Seed Crashes game Is placed

Post the error report, it will help in figuring out what's wrong.

Edit: Also, if your item doesn't have any special properties, you can instantiate it with Item.class. For your seed item, unless it has something different from other seeds, you can instantiate it as

    seeds = new ItemSeeds(*yourCropBlock*)

Basically, in the ItemSeeds class, it will place a crop block based on the block you put in its constructor.

    Lux Lighting
Lux Lighting is a mod that adds more sources of light because torches can get boring sometimes.

    Blocks

    Light Bulb
Pretty simple. A small block that emits a decent amount of light when powered by redstone.

    Campfire
A campfire that never burns out. An interface similar to a furnace's will pop up if you right click it, allowing you to cook food only. It will take only sticks as fuel, requiring two sticks to cook one item. No sticks are required to keep the actual block's fire burning.

    Candle
A small candle made out of wax that, like the campfire, never burns out. Its light level is very low.

    Lantern
It's a lantern. You can also add a candle to it. (recipe is lantern + candle)

    Glowstone Lamps
Pretty nice looking blocks that can be used in a lot of situations. Maybe can be used as street lamps or something.

    Lava Lamp
Not really a lava lamp, but at least it has actual lava.

    Ceiling Lamps
Finally another use for light bulbs. Powered by redstone. Can only be placed on the bottom side of solid blocks.

    Paper Lantern
A paper lantern that can only be placed on the bottom of blocks.

    Light Box
Places invisible light blocks every 5 blocks in a 20 block radius. This lights a large area and eliminates the need to place torches everywhere. It will scan the entire area on the blocks y level for available spaces to place a light block. If one spot on the grid already has a solid block, it will check upwards for 10 blocks, then it will check downwards for 10 block until it finds a spot. If it cannot find a spot after all these checks, it will not place anything. The block stores all coordinates of invisible light blocks placed by the light box. It will remove all invisible light blocks when broken.

    Invisible Light Block
This can only be placed by a light box or magic light stick. It has the same light level as glowstone. Can be broken without a tool. Holding either a light box or magic light stick will show all invisible light blocks as barrier particles.

    Items

    undefined
    Wax
Made from smelting coal. Used to make awesome candles.

    Kerosene
Obtained from combining coal with a bottle of water. Used to craft lanterns.

    Magic Light Stick
Places an invisible light block on right click. 100 uses.

Your file structure seems fine. The game should give errors if it cannot load a model, check the launcher's console when you load the game.

Can you post a screenshot of your file structure from eclipse? When you export your mod, open the jar file and look at your resources folder and check if everything's where it should be.

posted a message on What to use whilst making mods?

It's not going to be easy coding mods if you're not familiar with Java. You'll be questioning why things work, and you need to be able to understand things to the point where you don't need to look at tutorials in order to figure out how to code something. I spent most of my early modding days looking up tutorials and copying things, which was incredibly annoying. Once I practiced doing other stuff in Java, like programming simple games or apps, modding feels so much easier. At that point, you could probably code a 5 slot-input furnace that uses and stores solar energy as a fuel source and has 20 output slots if you wanted to.

So basically, start with learning Java. It's fun and free. Don't try looking for the easiest way, you'll only end up frustrated. Learning how to interpret Minecraft's and Forge's code and error reports are a skill you'll need that will only come from learning Java.

You could try implementing elements as an item that uses Properties to identify which element it is. You could add a second Property for charge if you decide to do ions. However, it will be hard to reflect chemistry in Minecraft, even if it's basic chemistry.

Actually, there are a few biomes in the list that aren't available in the customized world type option. I'm also trying to find a way to let people pick all the biomes they want in the world, if I can figure out Minecraft's chunk and biome generation code.

posted a message on Biome World Types - An easy way to get single biome worlds!

Welcome to the Biome World Types mod!
It adds one new world type: Single Biome World. The customize button will bring you to a list of all available biomes that you can pick from. It's a much cleaner and simpler UI than what Mojang has added.

    --

I have not tested if this mod will update the list to include biomes from other mods. It generates the list from every biome registered through Minecraft Forge's code, which includes vanilla biomes. If the mod does this, then it should show up on the list.

How is this different from the previous Biome World Types versions? The previous versions added a new world type for every biome, which made it incredibly irritating to click through. This new version adds only one world type that brings you to a new interface where you can pick a biome from the list.

What's the point if you can already do this in the vanilla game? There's no point in adding crafting recipes for horse armor if you can already get them from dungeons, right? The way Mojang added a way to get single-biome worlds is sort of annoying, this makes it much easier to do.

posted a message on Sentries - Home Defense v1.3 - Major update
    SENTRIES - HOME DEFENSE

    V1.3
    Minecraft 1.10.2 and 1.11

Welcome to the Sentries mod! The Sentries mod adds a new block, the sentry, that is powered by cores and configured by modifiers to provide ways of keeping your home safe. Sentry blocks will perform different functions based on what modifier it's using.

Sentries are powered by cores, which are separated into 4 tiers. Tier 1 is the weakest type of core and tier 4 is the strongest. Modifier items change the effects of a sentry when used with a core. This is overall a very simple mod with a large effect.

Example: Tier 4 Core + Flame Modifier = Wildfire Sentry

Right-clicking a sentry opens an interface where you can place a core and modifier to power the sentry. The interface will tell you the core's tier, the modifier's type, and the effect the sentry will put out. All sentries have a set radius that can be increased by improving the core.

    Effect Types:

    Nature
    Tier 1: Earth
    Tier 2: Harvest
    Tier 3: Overgrowth
    Tier 4: Genesis
Periodically spawns tall grass on grass blocks, also speeds up the growth of crops. Higher tiers increase the rate of growth and range of the sentry. Tier 4 sentries will target damage zombies and skeletons.

    Pulse
    Tier 1: Pulse
    Tier 2: Shock
    Tier 3: Forcefield
    Tier 4: Massacre
Periodically damages all enemies within a set range. Damage and range increases as core tier increases.

    Darts
    Tier 1: Dart
    Tier 2: Archer
    Tier 3: Machine Gun
    Tier 4: Dartstorm
Shoots arrows at mobs within a set range. Higher tiers increase the range, damage, and fire rate. Tier 1 dart sentries can only target 1 mob, increasing to 3 mobs for tier 2. Tier 3 and 4 will attack all mobs in range.

    Guardian
    Tier 1: Defender
    Tier 2: Warden
    Tier 3: Safeguard
    Tier 4: Guardian
Gives the player buffs when within the sentry's range. Tier 1 only gives resistance. Tier 2 adds health boost, tiers 3 adds absorption, tier 4 adds regeneration. Higher tiers increase the duration and strength of each effect and increase the range.

    Smite
    Tier 3: Smite
    Tier 4: Thunderstorm
Strikes an enemy within range with lightning. Thunderstorm sentries strike all enemies in range. Higher tiers increase damage and range. The lightning does not place fire blocks and tier 1 and 2 cores are ineffective with this modifier.

    Frost
    Tier 1: Chill
    Tier 2: Frost
    Tier 3: Arctic
    Tier 4: Permafrost
Periodically spawns snow blocks and freezes water within a small range. Has a chance to freeze water into packed ice. Applies a slow effect to mobs. Can chill the surroundings cold enough to damage mobs at tier 3 and above. Higher tiers increase the strength of the slow effect, damage, and range.

    Flame
    Tier 1: Ignite
    Tier 2: Blaze
    Tier 3: Combustion
    Tier 4: Wildfire
Melts snow and ice blocks and sets nearby mobs on fire. At tier 3 and above, fire blocks are randomly placed within the range, so be careful! Higher tiers increase the melting rate, fire duration, and range.

    Poison
    Tier 2: Poison
    Tier 3: Blight
    Tier 4: Plague
Poisons nearby mobs. Tier 3 adds a weakness effect, and tier 4 adds a wither effect. Higher tiers increase the range and strength of the effects. This modifier is one of the strongest at tier 4.

    Insanity
    Tier 3: Frenzy
    Tier 4: Insanity
Targets a mob within the sentry's radius and forces it to succumb to insanity. Mobs effected will attack other mobs as if they were the player. Creepers are unaffected, however insane mobs will attack creepers, so be careful. Tier 4 increases the range and causes the insanity effect to apply to ALL mobs within the sentry's range. Tier 4 sentries will also calm the minds of creepers, disabling their explosive tendencies. Insanity sentries do not apply to slimes, they're mindless blobs.

    Combat
    Tier 1: Combat
    Tier 2: Charge
    Tier 3: Battle
    Tier 4: War
Combat sentries give the player buffs to help them defeat their enemies. Tier 1 and 2 combat sentries will give the strength effect, and higher tiers add the invisibility effect as well an increased range and strength.

    Wind
    Tier 1: Wind
    Tier 2: Tempest
    Tier 3: Windstorm
    Tier 4: Hurricane
Wind sentries conjure up a strong gust of wind to blow mobs away. Higher tiers increase the strength of the wind.

    Elemental
    Tier 4: Elemental Fury
The elemental sentry is perhaps the strongest sentry there is. It's only tier, the fourth tier, targets all hostile mobs in the area and chooses one of four effects:
Magmaball: Launches a ball of magma that explodes on contact with a mob and sets it on fire. Can travel through blocks.
Earthen fangs: Summons fangs from the earth to snap at the target, causing damage.
Water Splash: Summons a brief jet of water beneath the target and launches them up into the air. Also applies a slow effect.
Air Launch: Launches the target up into the air...like a rocket.
