I feel the very start could do with a slight change. Say leave blocks have a chance to drop sticks which you can craft into a tool to harvest wood? It's a great thing that the tech tree is a lot more interesting but still being able to punch trees has to go! For the rest, it looks really promising and will have a go with it for a while.
Perhaps I'm just terribly unlucky but everytime I come across an enderman I look at them, perhaps do a suprise attack and they go mad teleport somewhere else to be never seen again. They do deal quite a bit of damage but what's the point if he's all Abra.
Got an e-mail my new PC parts are arriving at my doorstep tomorrow, excellent. Now I just read Skyrim was send also today and is likely to arrive tomorrow too. If it wasn't for the fact steam has it still locked till Friday I would've had manly tears since I first have to assemble the PC together! Bought Skyrim for 40 Euro, seems like a decent deal is I read what other people payed for (No offense!).
It would be nice if we could use leather to reinforce armour. That way leather has another use besides making basic armour.
Or we use previous tier material to 'upgrade' a piece. Say sticks to reinforce leather armour and iron to reinforce diamond. If you need, say, diamond to reinforce a piece of diamond armour you might as well safe a few more and craft another armour piece instead.
It seems with the new pre-release you may end up spawning away from the end island. When I went to the end on my test save I spawned just of the end of the end island. I could see the spawn platform from 1.9-4. It is likely it's not intended and just a bug.
If you really want to go to the end, even though at this stage there's not much to do you best use a tool to switch to creative mode and fly around till you find the island. Maybe set up a nether portal using MCedit or Invedit so you can travel there more comfortably next time.
So why doesn't the ghast get killed when I successfully shoot one of its fireballs back at it?
It's skin probably absorbs the explosion. Like jelly absorbs shockwaves.
But in all seriousness, could be fluctuation of the damage and or blast radius. Lot's of variables that could add to the damage done. Than there's also the possibility the Wiki is outdated and shows old damage values.
I admire your courage to stand and take full impact of an explosion without any kind of protection. Too bad courage has low armour value!
Really, the huge explosion damage right now is ridiculous. It makes Ghasts and Creepers way too deadly. Of course you can say, "Oh they're supposed to be strong", but that doesn't quite work with the fact that apparently two arrow hits can kill them? I think I good 'strong' enemy to me is one that takes time to kill, not one where either side can wipe each other out with one shot.
Plus, I don't really understand why the ghast fireball that seems to be able to kill me (10 hearts) easily, doesn't kill the ghast after I threw it back at him, and two arrows do kill him? That seems to be lacking logic if you ask me.
I would have to guess the Netherrack was from an explosion or something that happened nearby. I know they don't drop it, I've spawned them in the overworld (trying to find good strategies for fighting them) and the only thing they drop are their normal crap.
That was what I was thinking but somehow that seems unlikely as the corpses from the ghasts which supposedly 'dropped' it were killed in a great distance. No fireball had an impact in the location it died.
Either my nether is a complete warzone and it's spare netherrack from a previous ghast encounter or my memory is swiss cheese. Guess I'll have to find more ghasts and make sure their landing zone is clear to know for sure.
I've been hunting ghasts on a regular occasion in my preR4 world. They are a great hunt since you are so involved in their kill. Normal mobs die by your sword and then you hoard their treasure but ghasts needs to be herded to safe ground before you bring one down.
Fight in the open and try to lure them close. Their AI isn't programmed to come at you but you can use line of sight and flank techniques to get it in a nice position. Once you're satisfied it takes only 2 fully charged arrows to bring it down as said. Best 'spot' to hit them is on the lower left or right. If you take middle you end up shooting the arrow right at the fireball, wasting your arrows.
Don't deflect their fireballs too much and strafe after they've shot them. Also a potion of speed helps to get you around more easily.
Their damage is laughable though even if you wear iron armour. A direct hit will only do a few hearts of damage. (on hard)
By the way, is it just me or do they drop netherrack sometimes instead of tears?
its been asked already but didn't get a response, has anyone tried to see if you could mine fire and get the fire drop so as to be able to make chainmail armor legitly now?
Pretty positive that wouldn't work since any blow to a fire douses it. It's neither a block you can 'mine', like say coal ore etc.
You were already able to pick up actual grass using shears as far as I know. Unless you meant the grassblock, in that case I wouldn't know.
Having a pigspawner from picking up a monster spawner seems rather nice. Never hurts to place it in a desert where otherwise it would be barren of any kind of food. I hope I find some diamond soon so I can make a bookstand and test the new enchants out myself, seems good fun.

That's one of the best movies of all time, how could you say such a thing?

Are you sure you're wearing (iron and up) armour?
