Honestly, I don't know. I haven't used the mod myself, but I don't understand why it wouldn't work with entities extending the same entities it works with.
My guess, is Soul Shards just checks to see if a mob is the exact mob, which doesn't work out so well when it comes to compatibility. :\
Is the original mob intact in Special Mobs? As in the ordinary vanilla version still spawns? Soul Shards generally wants the specific mob (particularly with the same loot list). If special mobs is removing the vanilla version entirely I can see this being the problem. Soul Shards has very little mod compatibility, It won't register most custom mobs to make spawners for (with the exception of thaumcraft's angry zombies). Not much can be done I suppose for the majority of the two mod's compatibility. If the original mobs still spawned though it probably wouldn't be much of an issue, except probably being much harder to make soulshards xD
I am planning on a Creep plant that is used to craft Spectral dye. It will be a plant that transparent, grows only during the night, gives off faint light when it blooms.
-Adult plant can be used to obtain Spectral Dye or Harvested for a Soul. (Gains souls from the soulsand... extracts?)
-Seed wise...Random chance to grow on creep? much like Flowers on grass? If not, how are they obtainable?
Reap what you sow, Jade. Infuse a soul into vanilla seeds at the soul altar to first obtain this special seed. A little sacrifice goes a long way. c;
Also what did you think of the End Shrine idea for obtaining "easier" Enderpearls? You still have to farm mobs for the pearls. But now it doesn't have to be just endermen.
but this will make pearls so easy to get as some people sleeps a lot and they can get to new moon really quick(like a shrine camper)
instead,I hope jade can make a vanilla recipe to make a item, which at least collect 1-2 ender pearls upon enderman's death, this can encourage player to take the risk of fighting a enderman while also get the profit.
Vanilla recipe is a must,as ender pearls is the base of most starting items of HS
...Not really. They still have to wait the entire day cycle before they can sleep for one, and at most they get 4 pearls for a full keeper. That's waiting full day cycles for an entire moon cycle for 4 pearls. It's still easier to hunt for endermen. So not only do they have to wait, but they have to farm a full keeper first just to use it. Still easier to fight the endermen for pearls. And this is assuming you find the shrines to begin with, they would be a relatively rare occurance, akin to the wisp altars or wisp hills of Thaumcraft in rarity.
Maybe have world generation be your solution for early ender pearls. Like an End Shrine you can occasionally find, made of obsidian. In the middle is a 2x2 block of a liquid the same greenish blue that the ender pearls are colored. Basically you drop your essence keeper in the pool (I think maybe a soul filled one) and you get an ender pearl for every 5 souls - the liquid becomes clearer and you get back the empty essence keeper and the pearls. Every New Moon the liquid darkens again and you can use that shrine again. However if you break the shrine the liquid disappears.
So out of curiousity, what exactly seems to be the issue between Soul Shards and Special Mobs? I've kinda been wanting to use Special Mobs with my eventual 1.5.x modlist, but not if it breaks Soul Shards.
Jade, considering the materials you are considering on adding to villages for trading, I think it's time instead to introduce a new village structure and npc. I suggest having the structure possibly partially underground. Here you'll find the Village Medium. Who can trade you spectral dye, relics, and necronomicon pages for a substantial fee.
Oh item idea! More use for rotten flesh. You can augment rotten flesh with 1 soul at the soul altar to create unholy flesh. Unholy flesh is then smelted into the furnace to create 2 unholy tallow. crafting two unholy tallow and string creates a spectral candle. These candles emit as much light as a redstone torch. You can alter the color of the candle and flame by applying spectral dye to these candles.
If you craft a spectral candle (of any type) with a skull you create a summoning candle. (model will be a skull with a melting candle on top, the skulls eyes glow red). Summoning Candles emit visible light, but have special effect in that instead of diminishing the spawn rate of mobs in the area (still does for vanilla and other mobs), it increases the chance that harken scythe mobs will spawn near it greatly.
I'm sure the summoning candle could also have more uses in the future with your other plans too.
how rare is the spectral miner because if hes not rare then i would not make him drop diamonds and stuff
The rarity of the spectral miner isn't important, it's the rarity of him dropping diamonds that is important. I think Jade knows whats up. I honestly wish there were more ways of getting diamonds. This adds another way. I like to use mods like Metallurgy 2 myself, so this is helpful (Metallurgy 2 drastically diminishes your ability to find diamonds accurately and quickly, since veins tend to be smaller, and no longer focused on specific levels)
Congrats! So any planned additional recipes, items, uses for the scarab, etc.? I love the whole atmosphere with this mod and I think it has potential of going much much further I can see this mod eventually going side by side with Twilight Forest in modpacks at some point! Nothing more awesome than more endgame content!
I'd possibly suggest changing the colors of the spectral miner... maybe using a grayscale instead? I like how it looks like herobrine a little though. I'd suggest having the pickaxe always droppable (if it isn't already) and have the other drops be chance related additional drops.
Edit: Didn't fully read the description, missed the last line xP
You could probably set it up that world generated bookshelves have a small chance to be replaced with the haunted bookshelf spawner... Be fun to go into a village house and start getting attacked by haunted books. Lmfao.
Maybe a spawner disguised as a library block that always spawns haunted books? The spawner itself doesn't drop books, but the haunted books have a 80% chance of dropping a book, 10% chance at giving 2-4 pieces of paper, 5% chance at giving a necronomicon page, or a 5% chance of dropping a random enchanted book.
You know what would be another fun mob at add? Banshees.
You could also add in haunted tools and books, much like other mobs have if you so desired, such as the Primitive Mobs mod, Grimoire of Gaia, and Twilight Forest. Though same time might be better to leave them out for mod compatibility (except banshee... I think the grimoire of gaia mod doesn't do well with mod compatibility so you might as well make your own)
It would be nice to have another source of such mobs though. I like Primitive Mobs, but I really don't care for some of the mobs it adds at the same time (mostly the creepers.)
Seeing a collaboration with thaumcraft would be really cool
Once the mod itself is to a point where Jade is satisfied, I'm sure he'll work with more mod compatibility. But I do echo the desire to see some cross mod material. Thaumcraft and Harken Scythe are so far my favorite magic based mods for Minecraft. Not much Jade can do though till Thaumcraft API is also updated to 1.5.x, though.
